Dr. Gluck, his son, Dr. JonO, Cindy--the whole crew, have always made me leave there with a smile (no pun intended). They always know my name when I come in, I've received thank you notes, they're always complimentary of my fashion choices (which was a boost of confidence when I was going through a very nasty divorce), and they've even played the part as my therapist--lol! I had braces as a teen, but crowding happened after wisdom teeth came in; and as an adult, I thought it would be awkward going back to an orthodontics' office, but they made me very comfortable. The online scheduling experience worked well. When I arrived, the hygienist was nice and took my x-rays. I noticed that they use lots of fancy equipment like cameras and 3D representations. I was thinking that they were to help improve diagnosis, but when I read about them later, they're primarily advertised as sales tools to help dentists sell more work. They've had a lot of turnover, and so a very new dentist came in and told me I needed tons of work, and that they wouldn't even complete my cleaning unless I agreed to all of it. I had just recently been seen by my other dentist and had gotten a clean bill of health, so was a little bit surprised by this. I investigated more and discovered that the practice is now operated by a large company called Heartland Dental Inc. Heartland paid a $3 million settlement to the US Department of Justice to settle allegations of improper billing and unnecessary services. This was enough to turn me off the the practice -- I'm going to have to drive a little further but it'll be safer for my teeth and wallet! To close it all, I've now sent three requests for my records to be sent, and still haven't received them.

I found Dr Gross to be a direct communicator who wants to make sure she educates people on their teeth and how to care for them better. I didn't feel like I was just another mouth to work on there. She and the rest of the staff truly made me feel like I mattered, and fixing my teeth really mattered. By the end of the treatment I honestly wanted to hug her. I had been a patient of the office since moving to the area several years ago and had regular dental check-ups and cleanings there. Earlier this year, I was on the West Coast and had occasion to visit my longtime dentist in California. While examining my mouth he quickly discovered that I have a serious infection in my gums that that it had been there spreading for a very long time and gon e undetected by Dr. MacLaughlin. Bottom line is, if you only want to have your teeth cleaned, this practice may be sufficient for you. However, if you want quality preventive dental care and diagnosis of any oral disease, I suggest going elsewhere. As a footnote to the foregoing, when I contacted Dr. MacLaughlin's office to let him know I would not be coming back, the staff member I spoke to asked if there was a problem. In response, I explained that I was not satisfied with the level of care I received there. She apologized and assured me that I would be hearing from Dr. MacLauglin. That never happened, as they also seem to be unable to provide basic customer/patient service.
