Be very cautious about seeing this office. My old dentist stopped taking my insurance (bummer!) and this office was one of the only offices in town that still take Cigna DHMO, so I scheduled an appointment. The online scheduling experience worked well. When I arrived, the hygienist was nice and took my x-rays. I noticed that they use lots of fancy equipment like cameras and 3D representations. I was thinking that they were to help improve diagnosis, but when I read about them later, they're primarily advertised as sales tools to help dentists sell more work. They've had a lot of turnover, and so a very new dentist came in and told me I needed tons of work, and that they wouldn't even complete my cleaning unless I agreed to all of it. I had just recently been seen by my other dentist and had gotten a clean bill of health, so was a little bit surprised by this. I investigated more and discovered that the practice is now operated by a large company called Heartland Dental Inc. Heartland paid a $3 million settlement to the US Department of Justice to settle allegations of improper billing and unnecessary services. This was enough to turn me off the the practice -- I'm going to have to drive a little further but it'll be safer for my teeth and wallet! To close it all, I've now sent three requests for my records to be sent, and still haven't received them. read more

At the beginning I was seeing Dr. Kapur and loved her! She has sadly moved on, but Dr Housley is a great replacement! She is just as sweet, caring, and professional as Dr Kapur! I'm a guy who takes dental health seriously. I like cleanings every three months and pay 100% out of pocket. While Harpeth Dental had some staff changes, most notably Dr. Housley taking command of the practice, I am pleased to report the quality remains high. I just completed a cleaning with Drew, my new hygienist. Drew is my first male hygienist ever! Drew was absolutely fantastic! He worked diligently for an hour. He was thorough, effective and gentle. In addition to skill, he had a very agreeable personality. My teeth feel great! I would gratefully have him be my hygienist from now on... it was that good! I am SO happy with my experience at Harpeth Dental Care. I received a flyer at my door for a great deal on an exam/cleaning/X-ray, and since I had yet to find one to replace the great dentist office I grew up with, I took advantage. For the last several years, I've been bouncing between dentists, only going for one visit, because I'm not satisfied, my mouth is unjustifiably filled with blood, or some other reason. I simply have been seeking comfort, care, updated resources, and an end result of a beautiful, clean mouth! I found it! The reception services are extremely professional, the hygenist I had (Sarah), was incredibly nice, friendly, professional, accurate, and did a WONDERFUL job. Though Dr. McMillan was undoubtedly busy, when he came in for the standard exam, he took the time to shake my hand and sit down to ask me questions about myself, my life, and who I was. How great! Comparing to the last place I went, where my gums were cut like steak knives and I was told the blood was a result of cavities and gingivitis, and I was told I would have to wait an hour for the Dentist to do her exam.....Harpeth Dental Care couldn't possibly score higher, in my book. At first I went just for cleaning and was told I had 6 cavities when just last year I had 2 cavities fixed after many many years... They told me they were just minor cavities and it was better to fix them. So I came back to get 2 cavities fixed and they made the entire right side of my face numb all the way down to my neck. I have intense anxiety about seeing the dentist. I delayed getting a new dentist as long as I could after moving to Nashville. Two things told me Harpeth would be different. When I made an appointment, the gentleman taking my information over the phone asked about past experiences with dentists and what they could do to make my visit better. I could hear him typing as I spoke. When I arrived at the office, the paperwork I filled out included a section for comfort with dental treatment: fear of dentists, needles, drills; bad dental experiences; anxiety in general; issues with noises. That they gathered this information in two ways before my appointment began to put me at ease. I was right to relax. The staff was friendly and competent. I warned the hygienist I'd cry during cleaning and promised it wasn't personal. She took it like a champ. The dentist (Dr. Kapur) was kind and non-shame-y. She gave me the information I needed and put no pressure on me to make decisions right away. I had my first visit with Dr. Housley today. I was able to get a quick appointment for a chipped tooth. Hana, her assistant and Dr. Housley were wonderful. They took such good care of me. I felt really taken advantage of. I made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned about a month in advance. During the conversation the representative said they'd also like to do x-rays and a consultation with the dentist, in addition to having my teeth cleaned, I said I wouldn't mind as long as I got my teeth cleaned, she said no problem "we will definitely clean your teeth." I followed all of their new patient instructions, got there 30 minutes ahead of time (even though they suggested only 15 minutes) to do paper work and I filed out the section about "why are you here?" with "I want to get my teeth cleaned." I watched 3 people arrive after me who were taken before me (no problem, but I noticed) about 5-10 minutes after my scheduled appointment I was asked to come into the examining room. Hanna was very nice, took X-rays, the hygienist did her thing, "counting my teeth" looking for problems, I guess, I had to ask a lot of questions she didn't volunteer much, the dentist came in and after a cursory look, confirming what she said saw in the x-rays told me I would be presented with a treatment plan. Hanna came back and said because of a scheduling error they couldn't clean my teeth, "we're really busy" ("what about me, I'm not busy?") Disappointed I asked to speak with the hygienist, who said she was fully booked and wasn't going to change her schedule to accommodate my appointment. I felt like just another set of teeth to her, no bed side manner at all, she never even introduced herself, (just told me to open my mouth?!) I guess they don't teach empathy in hygienist school, it was clear that I would have been an inconvenience. I left in frustration. I called and asked the dentist to return my call, she never did, hence this review. (I hope that she sees this and thinks of me when she gets a phone call from a patient.) Let me begin by saying that the new dentist, Dr. Kapur, was not there when the older bad reviews were written. I had a dentist in Austin I saw pretty regularly and she was great at helping me through my dental-phobia. Since I moved to Nashville I hadn't seen a dentist. A year went by before I knew it, and suddenly my gums started bleeding. The old dental-phobia kicked in and I knew I had to face it. This place is very close to my house and they take my insurance so I bit the bullet and made an appointment. They saw me that same day since I was clear it was urgent and I was concerned about my gums. From the front desk to the hygienists to the dentist and dental assistants, everyone here was absolutely wonderful. It started with Lily who answered the phone. Awesome. Then Britney who checked me in and dealt with my insurance company. They left her on hold for an hour and 20 minutes and she just sat there with a smile on her face, happily holding while continuing to work. I would have hung up after 3 minutes, but I digress. Then Yvonne (dental assistant I believe) came to get me and brought me back. She was warm and kind and had that special something that makes you feel welcome, you know. We talked for a while and she took X-rays. Easy peasy. The dentist came in and examined me. Luckily, all my teeth were fine, all I needed was a teeth cleaning and SRP (scaling the teeth at the root). I had had this done in the past and knew it could be painful. This dentist has amazing eyes. Not that it matters but there was something mesmerizing there! Anyway, they didn't have any appointments for a while but my gums were really hurting and I knew I needed the scaling soon. Low and behold, a few minutes after I left the lovely Britney called and fit me in the next day. I actually had to go two days in a row for the scaling, but that was due to my insurance not them. Yesterday I went to round one and today I finished it. I can't say enough about the hygenist, Chandi. She did an absolutely fantastic job. I was comfortable, we jammed to some R&B while she did her work, and best of all, I felt no pain! This place rocks and I am so happy I have found my new dentist. Oh-and the prices were totally reasonable! I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

My dentist had retired, so I began the long search for a new one. After interviewing three dentists, I came to Dr. Kapur. Now I had A LOT of dental needs, so it was important that my new dentist be 1) technically and aesthetically gifted; 2) trustworthy, and 3) not be daunted by the amount of dental work I required. Dr. Kapur and her staff met and exceeded all my requirements AND expectations. The office is happy, but professional; efficient, yet personal. I have always hated going to the dentist finding any excuse in the world not to go. That slight discomfort that I knew would become an emergency flared up so I decided to try another one. Their location was awesome and I was told people going there really liked it, so I jumped in. Very glad I did. This entire staff is amazing in every aspect. I have been a patient of this practice for over a decade, and have seen several leadership transitions. Unfortunately, I have experienced a drastic decline in patient care and customer service recently and will transition to a new dentist. I had an appointment this past week, and the day prior had several phone conversations getting new insurance squared away as well as explaining my arrival would be tight coming from midtown & an important meeting. When I arrived fourteen minutes late, I was told my hygienist had already left for lunch since they have a ten minute late policy. At no point in my phone conversations the day before, when I was saying my appointment time was going to be challenging, was a ten minute policy explained to me. We even looked at other days, but decided to keep it the same. The receptionist said she called me and left a voicemail, but when I looked at my phone there was no missed call and no voicemail. I showed her this. Then she changed her story and said she couldn't leave a voicemail. I asked if she could call the hygienist, since she couldn't have gone far in four minutes, but she didn't answer. Given my conversations the day before, and the fact that I was the one trying to come up with a solution and not the receptionist, I felt incredibly devalued and disrespected. When I said I would be looking for a new practice, her response was "No problem, we'll be happy to transfer your records." This shows me that patient retention is not a priority, and the fact that I've been a patient for over a decade means nothing to them. She was incredibly rude to me, and made it very clear that I was an imposition on her day and other duties she would rather tend to. She did not care at all that I was upset over driving nearly thirty minutes simply out of loyalty to this practice. No more. read more

He found cavities when there were none. I have never had lots of cavities untill I went to this dentist. I thought it might be my age so let him do what he said needed done. i spent thousands of dollars. When I took my kids in who had litlle or no cavities before all of a sudden had a lot I became concerned. When I remembered a friend had told me years earlier her two year old had 3 cavities (they were with this dentist also) I decided to spend the money to investigate. Our previous dentist had told us my oldest had no cavities, then I went to a hygienist friend of mine's dentist office for another checkup and xrays and we were once again told she had no cavities at all.
