HOLY. CRAP. I just got back from having a root canal done…read moreand all I can say is "did that really just happen?" Mr. Ladley is one of the nicest, well rounded dentists i've ever met in my entire life. I'm terrified of going to the dentist, due to my previous awful experiences with them. But this just blew my mind. He numbed me up and I didn't even feel the needle. Note, I have a very low pain tolerance. I felt a little pinch, but it was the equivalent of less than accidentally biting your cheek. That would hurt MORE. The procedure itself was about a half hour, and I felt nothing. I mean, NOTHING. Sure, I felt vibration from the drill. But it wasn't gross, I wasn't scared, and I hyped myself up for nothing. I had no idea dentistry could be this awesome. Makes sense, considering it's frickin' 2014. I know this sounds like one of those fake reviews bc he has like none yet, but i'm so blown away by the root canal I can't even stop talking about it to my husband. No pain, no mess. I go back in about two weeks to finish the procedure (it's a two step process, he talked me through the whole thing - which is also awesome). He is very patient, willing to listen, won't rush you, and his medical staff is also amazing and friendly. I don't have dental insurance so I had to pay out of pocket. When I arrived at my appointment I was…read moretold by the (2) two people at the front counter the dollar amount I was to be charged, with a complete breakdown of costs associated with my treatment. I asked the front desk if this would be a covered procedure through my insurance and they advised it would not be, so I paid CASH ($1826.00). They did say that they could try to file it with my insurance and if anything was covered, I would receive a refund check, most likely from the practice. I agreed and had the treatment completed by Dr. Ryan Brennan, which was 5 stars and I am very happy with. Three weeks post procedure, I receive a bill from Advanced Endodontics (AE) for $21, which is listed as Intraoral Periapical First Film (i.e.: x-ray), which I already paid my CASH price of $149.00 -for an Oral Eval which included an x-ray, (which is what the front desk told me was going to occur). When I called to inquire with Leslie in Billing at AE, she first informs me with no hesitation that she sees the charge and has no idea what the $21.00 is for and doesn't understand why I was charged. She placed me on hold to check with the front desk. When she returned to the phone, she advised me that because they (AE) filed with my insurance to see if anything was covered, I had to pay $21. She said if they had not submitted it to my insurance then I would not have had to pay because I was a CASH payer. Nobody up to today ever told me there was a fee to submit the bill to my insurance and why AE would show it as an x-ray charge only shows that they are attempting to cover or hide the fees for the erroneous $21 charge. On my original procedure / payment receipt there is no indication of a pending charge, outstanding balance or stipulation for a charge to file with my insurance. She (Leslie) informed me if I didn't pay the $21 it would be sent to collections. This is very wrong in so many ways. She said information, or lack of, about a charge is not the responsibility of the front desk job, so regardless, I must pay. She said it is a legal contractual agreement with my insurance that I must pay. The most concerning point is AE attempting to cover the cost of the insurance submission as an x-ray charge, which is bordering on billing fraud. I guess to top it off was her dismissive attitude during the conversation on the phone. This $21 charge is not going to change my life, but now it's all about principle: Advanced Endodontics billing procedures, what is being told at the front desk, the treatment on the phone by Leslie and the way it was billed as an x-ray. This seems to be a way to charge customers for manipulated charges and billing irregularities.
