The doctor only wants to talk to your loved one. You cannot go in. I guess he doesn't want people to know what he said or didn't say

Wish I could give more stars because I don't understand the poor reviews. For my husband and I the very most important elements of a good experience with a physician were spot on. The front desk staff was pleasant and friendly. We were escorted to an exam room right on time. A pleasant technician interviewed and took notes on the computer. We were then taken to a different exam room which I noticed immediately did not have a computer. Dr. Smirnoff came in casually dressed and proceeded to address my husband's test results in a most caring, attentive and friendly manner. He was talking to us and not looking at a screen. Most unusual in these times. We felt very comfortable and confident with him. Needless to say we would absolutely recommend him. read more

I would give Alexander Smirnoff zero stars if I could. This form forced me to give at least 1. I have never been to a more unprofessional, rude, uncaring doctor in my 60+ years in this world. I have no trust in anything he would have to offer. Prior to a neuromuscular test I asked if he would be using needles. I told him I had done some research on the test and it was done both with and without needles. He was outraged that I would question the process. His reaction was completely out of proportion to the clearly legitimate question. He said that he did not use needles. He began the procedure and as he did he engaged in a political discussion with me. We were of differing political beliefs, but I tried to stay neutral. Each time he electrically stimulated a muscle he would make a political statement. It was like adding insult to injury. Then, without notice, he began using needles. With each needle jab came another political commentary. It was excruciating, both physically and emotionally. And the worst part of the entire hour long procedure was that he "said" he was unable to get good, reliable results needed to share with the surgeon doing a cubital tunnel release. If you have read this far, I hope you have decided to find a different neurologist. I shared my experience with the surgeon and she said she would never recommend Smirnoff to any of her patients. read more

The receptionist on duty at 8 am on 6 19 25 was verbally dismissive when I said that I had contacted the doctor's office on 6 13 with patient records. This person initially said that the email was never checked although I had communicated with the office via this email several times in the past. Throughout our discussion, this person's manner of communication was quite aggressive and controlling, interrupting me frequently particularly when I was trying to clarify a point. This person never acknowledged any of my concerns, nor did they reflect at all on their own behavior. In summary, this person never showed any compassion or understanding of the patient or family's perspective, nor indicated verbally that she cared about what the patient and or family was going through. This person said that we were rude and that the doctor was discharging my husband although the doctor never talked with us. Because of this lack of attention to the patient, I would not recommend him to anyone. read more

There was nothing I liked about this practice. I never even saw the Doctor! It was my 1st appointment with the Practice. I had filled out all paperwork and faxed everything, to include front and back of my Drivers License and Insurance Card on April 30th. With that being said, I showed up 20 minutes early for my appointment just in case they needed something else. The woman at the desk told me she had to call my insurance company. Pretty confused since they had my insurance information for almost 6 weeks. Sat down and my husband and I had to listen to her basically bitching at the insurance company stating that she can't sit on the phone for 1/2 waiting for answers. Why did she wait until I was in the waiting room for my appointment to get insurance authorization?! She finally calls me up and states to me, like it is my problem, that she cannot sit on the phone for 1/2 hour waiting on the insurance company. I said so are you saying I cannot be seen? She said no, that is not what I said, you can be seen but will have to pay out of pocket for the appointment and when they get paid they will reimburse me. This woman has no clue what she is doing and should be fired. She said I had to understand and I said, while standing there in my scrubs from my job in a Doctors office, that there is no reason to wait until the patient is in the office to verify insurance!! You NEVER wait until the patient is in office to verify insurance! It is a waste of time for the patient as well as money lost to the practice because now they have an empty appointment that is too late to fill. I had to use PTO from my job to come to this appointment, which I waited over 6 weeks for. Now it would be a waste to drive the 1/2 hour back to Ocala and get to work at 4pm to only leave at 5pm to drive a 1/2 hour back home. Do not waste your time with this practice. I physically have never stepped foot into this place, but I can tell you that I don't ever want to anymore. Vicki, the appointment/front desk employee is the rudest and most uncompassionate person I have spoken to. I had an appointment for my mom for over a month. (after she failed to make the 1st appointment correctly, but I sent in the new patient forms and when I called to confirm her appointment, she states she got the forms but had no idea why) - She calls to let me know 2 days before the new appointment stating that she "forgot" the doctor has to do training in the afternoon of my moms appointment and asked if we could come in earlier. My caretaker agreed to try and get her ready for her 10:45 appointment. Lo and behold, it was impossible to get my dementia mother in gear. When I called to inquire about any help. She bluntly stated, well if she doesn't make this appointment, then the doctor will not see her and will not let a reschedule. Absolutely disgusting customer service, especially for a neurologist office. Please use caution -- I am sure the Doctor is outstanding, we will never know, but he needs to fix his staff. read more

If you look for reviews across the Internet on Dr. Smirnoff, you will see a trend. And it's not a positive one and it has a reason. Dr. Smernoff and his office manager are both surly, rude and incredibly unprofessional they took every ounce of energy for us not to walk out in the middle of the examination. The way he speaks to his patient was something that in 60+ years of life I have never personally experienced. We were in shock and we left there saying never again. Two months to get a appointment. Specifically asked when appointment was made to be sure they accepted my insurance. Day before appointment,we get a call that they don't take our insurance. Really! Hey office people. Your job is a ENTRY LEVEL position and you couldn't even do that right. Must have had some problems years ago. Marie the Mrs. as well as Doc seem to have changed their tune. Probably were, past tense, overwhelmed by number of patients. We scored a cancellation and Maria, one of two office assistants was pleasant, and we had no issues w/anyone. Didn't interact w/the 2nd doctor there but other than immediately recommending an Rx - and there isn't much else you can do for dementia - I was satisfied w/everyone's demeanor. Only a first visit. Glad to find an outfit taking new patients. Remember, the 'Villages' is growing exponentially and good practices are already filled to capacity. One reason Dr. Smirnoff may seem curt is he's probably seen hundreds of patients w/similar issues before. read more

Cannot recommend. Saw the doctor and he's off-putting and abrupt. Staff is no better. Very uncaring office. Saw doctor once and then was scheduled with PA. Wasn't even told this when scheduling the second appointment. Received a text confirming my appointment and this is how I knew I wasn't seeing the doctor. So I called to reschedule with doctor and was told you only see doctor on first visit and then you see PA for four or five visits before you can see doctor again. Never was advised of this when I initially scheduled. I would have never considered this office with this policy! read more

Rude receptionist, nurse, and dr wanted 2 visits for test referred by my podiatrist instead of doing what she ordered. I presume wanted money for 2 visits instead of one. Dr impatient as well. I am writing this review to warn others of this very unprofessional office. My father was a patient of Dr. Smirnoff's until recently. I have been with him to several of his appointments. First let me say how extremely rude the front desk is. Dr. Smirnoff's wife is usually at the front desk and I have witnessed how rude she is to his patients. The day of my fathers appointment in February when Dr. Smirnoff came into the room he had new medication for my father. My mother, like any good wife had, numerous questions for the Dr. However, he became extremely upset, cut my mother off and said he needs to take this medication or don't come back. My parents were so upset when they left the office they didn't notice THE MEDICATION GIVEN TO THEM BY DR. SMIRNOFF HAD EXPIRED IN DECEMBER. SHAME ON THIS DR. FOR NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS AND LISTENING TO HIS PATIENTS. read more

Not interested in helping or being polite/professional in any way. I couldn't get past her to make it to the dr appointment. I refuse to do business with mean/nasty/unprofessional people. Waited over three hours past my appointment time, only to be told the doctor was too busy and to "come back tomorrow to reschedule." When I came back for the rescheduled appointment, the doctor, when I attempted to speak, told me to be quiet because he could, "already see your file, I don't need you whining about it." Worst office manager ever would not see my father because we were looking into hospice care, not signed up yet, but she even said how she was so concerned that insurance wouldn't pay the office while speaking so loudly to me in the hallway that others could hear. If I could give them less than 1 star I would. I was referred to Dr. Smirnoff's office by my Pain doctor. Mind you I have a lot of health issues. I had recently found out the I have a cyst on my brain and that my mamo came back with large abnormalities and need to have further testing. I get to the office and automatically the staff is rude and made my feel uncomfortable. I get put in a room and asked why I was there? I had an MRI requested by Dr. Smirnoff back in March and had been trying to get back into the office for my results and no one ever contacted my after leaving many messages. Then they cant find the results and said that they never requested them I finally got an apt in June. I got very upset and started crying. I did not yell or loose my temper, I just cried. After about 20 min the nurse came back in and said she found them. not 5 min later a doctor Bill Lubin walks in and sees my crying. He doesn't ask if I'm ok or what the issue was, he just said that my results came back with nothing wrong with me. I told him that was a lie and that my pain doctor had gone over it with me and I had a lot of issues that my need surgery in my neck, arm and head ( 3 pinched nerves in my neck on my left side causing weakness in my left arm, 1 pinched nerve on my right side running into my head causing headaches.). When I mentioned that I had a cyst on my brain and if that was reported on the MRI, he said that he didn't believe me and that I was being emotional and irrational and that I needed medication or therapy help. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! I am normally a positive and upbeat, with a fun personalities. I told him that he didn't know me or had the right to judge me or say that to me! then I mentioned that I already take medication then he said that it needed a major adjustment. AGAIN, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! He was so unprofessional and rude along with the staff. He kept telling me that I was being emotional and irrational, to the point where I couldn't stand if any further and told him I wanted to leave. I went to my pain doctor a week late and told them what had happened. She said that he had no right to say those things to me and he was being a sexist pig. That he lied to me and she went over my MRi again with me to prove it. What kind of Doctor's office employs a doctor like DR. LUBIN?!?!? I plead to you that if your doctor refers you to Dr Smirnoff's practice to ask for some other doctor (doctor strange would be 100% better that this office). My pain doctor and I are reporting Dr. Lubin for the sexist comments and gender discrimination. I have been recently referred to a different doctor a neurosurgeon Dr. Oliver. read more

I am 60 years old and have a few episodes of not being able to articulate. I had an MRI with and without contrast and they showed an area of inflammation in my frontal lobe. The neurologist I was referred to cannot see me until January 9th. That is a month from now. I made several calls to see if another doctor could get me in sooner but none of them cared. I found Smirnoff Neurology online, called and told them the issue and they are getting me in tomorrow. I cannot tell you how relieved I am. Thank you so much!!! read more

Dr. Smirnoff is a wonderful doctor I had my migraines under control with only 2 visits highly recommend him

My husband has Alzheimers and is a patient of Dr. Smirnoff. We wanted to get our wills in order and due to my husbands condition, my lawyer said we needed a letter from our neurologist stating that my husband understood giving me power of attorney. When I asked for a letter from Dr. Smirnoff, I was told we needed to make an appointment with Dr. Smirnoff. After a 6 week wait for an appointment, Dr. Smirnoff said my husband would first have to have a Neuro/Phycological test before he could write a letter. After another 5 or 6 week wait for the Neuro/Phycological test, (which I paid for out of pocket), I was told by Dr. Mason that it would be a few weeks for the results to be given to Dr. Smirnoff. When I went to Dr. Smirnoff's office to get the results and again ask for a letter, I was told that Dr. Smirnoff wouldn't even look at the results until my husbands next appointment in April. When I asked to make an earlier appointment, I was told there were none and that I should ask Dr. Mason to write the letter. When I called Dr. Mason's office and asked for a letter, I was told that he is not a medical doctor, but that they would see what they could do when he returned to the office on Monday. That was 3 weeks ago. I am appalled at the treatment that we have received. Dr. Smirnoff may be a fine doctor medically, but his patient service and communication is frightful. read more

When I went in in 2014 I liked him. He seemed concerned about my issues. However, like SO many doctors before him He took the easy way out and went with a prior Diagnosis that I had rather than looking for the proper Diagnosis. I even point blank asked him if it was epilepsy and he said yes. So off he sent me for an MRI and an EEG. I knew the EEG would not show anything, they never have in my 30 yrs of having them. When I went in for the results of my testing, I was told I had to pay the office close to $2k before the doctor would see me. I tried to work out a payment plan thing with the office, since no one had told me the EEG would cost me so much out of pocket, I even tried to pay around $1500 on spot and the rest later and the doctor refused to see me until the amount was paid in full. That showed me real quick this doctor is more interested in his paycheck than his patients. I have since found a doctor that would actually look at my symptoms with fresh eyes and NO it is not epilepsy it is hemiplegic migraine's AND Porphyria. read more

I saw Dr. Alex Smirnoff at Smirnoff Neurology because I was having neck and lower back pain off and on for several years. Despite the Dr. Having a busy schedule I did not have wait more than a couple weeks for an appointment. The office staff was friendly and handled my insurance quickly so that I saw Dr. Smirnoff with no issues. An extremely thorough examination was followed by MRIs, X-Rays, and a nerve conduction test, which luckily showed no serious problems. Dr. Smirnoff was very patient and took sufficient time to explain all the test results and potential treatments. We tried a back stretching table but Dr. Smirnoff righty said it was unlikely to help but worth a try. I was proscribed some muscle relaxers and to be more aware of posture and things have slowly improved. Neurology problems are complicated so I would recommend the knowledgeable Dr. Smirnoff and his fine office whole heartedly. read more
