I took my 1 year old Bernedoodle here three times. We had a goldendoodle previously and recognize doodles can be a lot of maintenance, especially when their coat changes from fine puppy hair to adult coat - so I wanted to schedule out regular grooming so it didn't get out of hand. I also recognize many groomers don't love grooming doodles because they are large and time consuming. All that said, the first time I took her - even though the owner scolded me about a mat on her ear and chest - I brought her back because she looked great. The next time we just did a bath and brush out in an attempt to groom more often and stay on top of it. The owner wasn't friendly and it was still over $100, but again it seemed worth it because she looked great.
A week later on St. Patty's Day, my dog had to have major surgery - six inches of her small intestine removed - because she ate one of the tiny shamrock hair bows the owner put on my large dog (oh the irony.) It had unraveled while she chewed on it, attached to her tongue, she swallowed thread and almost perforated her bowel before the vet could figure it out. Surgery and hospital stay cost $5,000. It was a freak accident, not necessarily the owner's fault, but I did want to share this info with her so maybe she wouldn't continue using those bows - at least not on my dog. But again, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. When I told her about the freak incident at the next groom she said, "oh that's weird." Not once did she inquire more, check on my dog, ask details, say she'd be gentle on her huge healing incision - no concern whatsoever.
I was three days out of date on shots at her next groom, so she told me I'd have to come back, but there wasn't another appointment for three weeks. Again, I didn't balk, because she did a great job and doodle groomers are hard to find. Plus this was my fault, just frustrating when she needed to be cleaned up so badly.
When I returned weeks later, clearly my dog wasn't in great shape - she had had major surgery where she couldn't have a bath, had vomited on herself for a week prior to surgery, post-op, etc., and then after I was turned away I had to bathe her myself and try to clean her up, which doodle owners know often makes it worse. So she scolded me again about mats in her face and ears. I told her I understood if she had to shave her, and assumed she'd just cut her whole body down short. But instead she cut her like a poodle and left a big poof on her head. Please note she has poodles and didn't love it when I said, "please don't make her look like a poodle."
And now my doodle looks like this, which I'm pretty sure was intentional. And she commented at pick up that I only tipped $10 (on top of the $125).
I've already made an appt with a new groomer. Beware people, customer service is key. read more
