Our journey with Smith Standard Poodles began in April 2024, when we started searching for a breeder for standard poodles. After looking over multiple websites, we were quite impressed with the Smith Poodle Website, and we also met one of the Smith's Poodles while hiking. So, on May 18th, 2024, we reached out with a phone call to discuss their operational policies. Impressed by the conversation, we made a deposit of $625. Based upon our conversation with the couple we met on our hike, we were very specific about the breeding pair we wanted and the timing of their next potential delivery. As we live in Arizona, we also needed to be thoughtful of when we could get a puppy. The Smiths seemed accommodating, offering to house any new puppy (for an understandable fee) past their desired 8-week delivery window. Jasmine was due around June 24th, 2024. We could take delivery sometime in September. But we never heard from the Smith's beyond this conversation. We enquired only to find out she did not produce a litter. It was not expected that she would be available to try again until sometime in 2025.
Disappointed, we moved our pick to other two other mating pairs in the fall of 2024. Then we learned, those two sets of litters also failed to produce puppies. Again, we had to reach out to the Smith's for an update. At this time, the Smith's offered to refund our deposit and we were ready to give up. However, Mr. Smith informed us they were expecting to breed Jasmine again for what we understood could be her last litter. If successful, she would be due around Christmas. We were thrilled at this prospect and placed our selection based on this information.
Well, Christmas came and went, but we heard nothing and so we reached out on January 28th 2025. We expressed our concerns of not hearing anything in a text and mentioned we had found another puppy from a different breed/breeder. We requested our deposit back but received no response. On February 6th, we noticed a change on the Smith's website indicating new puppies would be available soon, but still no word on Jasmine's litter. When we called Mr. Smith, he informed us that Jasmine's pregnancy had again failed and that deposits were non-refundable, despite previously offering to return ours after the third failed pregnancy last fall. However, he would discuss with his wife if they could make an exception and let us know.
As of March 3rd 2025 - the Smith's had not responded to our refund request.
