It was such a great feeling to be performing at the theater I grew up watching movies in. The theater is just beautiful and the staff there are amazing as well. We performed there on 8/30/25. We are the Soul Jam Revue. The venue is full of that same charm that was there back in the 60's, 70's and on. I walked around taking in the movie shadows boxes (micky mouse) and this brought back so many memories! The seating there is all brand new, comfortable and spacious! I highly recommend getting there for a show in the future. I can't wait to see when they put up the new marquee! read more

Finally got a chance to attend this Theater! A Chorus Line was suppos3d to happen. Something happened. The World shut down. 5 years later... So finally , the big day came, I put on my blue shirt, my black shoes and attended Newsies!! It was FANTASTIC!! GREAT SHOW! Great Dancing and singing moves. Such great talent! Love it here! The Smithtown Center for Preforming Arts is a great treasure in Smithtown. It is a small theater so there are no bad seats. The shows they put on are amazing! My husband and I purchased a loyalty pass which has discounted tickets when you buy ten. It's a great date night or to go out with family members. The shows have all be superb!! The staff who works here is great as well. If you haven't been to a show here i would highly recommend trying one! They have plays, kids plays, and special events like comedy shows and music shows. read more

I would put no stars for summer camp program, total disaster, anything to make money. Do not recommend summer camp at all!!! Camp has nothing to do with a word theater! Terrible leadership skills, whoever puts summer camp has nothing to do with kids or theater! read more

Took my nieces and nephews to see Elf Jr. everyone enjoyed the show. The kids were singing the songs the next few days! The theatre itself is nice, clean and a bit small but perfect for a fun thing to do with kids. The only negative was that they opened the doors and there was just one girl scanning/collecting tickets. Just about every theater goer basically rushed to the door. Lots of rude people and lots of people who need to go back to preschool to learn how to get in a line. Kinda chaotic! Maybe roping a line off would be more efficient. At intermission they had water, candy and other little snacks for sale at $2 each. Parking in the large lot across the side street. read more

Went to watch one of my cousins perform in Shrek the other weekend and it was a very enjoyable experience! With regards to the theatre, it was very clean and professional looking. There was rug covering the entire floor and the seats were also quite comfortable. I look forward to attending another event in this theatre! read more

Local Theater I've driven past this place countless times and always made a mental note to my self to check it out as there is always something interesting on the marquee. I finally got the chance to go as Ave Q is playing there and coincidentally Yelp has made it out to LI and was throwing one of their very first Elite bashes here - so it worked out perfectly. The theater proper is over 80 years old and started life as a cinema. The building is obviously old but solid and when you walk into the main seating area you are reminded what a movie theater used to be like instead of the giant multiple shoe box structures we are all familiar with now. The small but functional lobby come with a ticket window and a side room for pre/post show events. The decor is centered around the upcoming and current shows. The main seating are also has a balcony although we sat in the main area. The best part about the place was that the sound was nearly perfect. No crackling, hissing or buzzing from the sound system and everything was crystal clear when the performers were onstage. Seats were comfortable and good sized - unlike many of the teeny Broadway theaters where your ass goes numb by the second act! Also the place was spotless - it is a non-profit and the care of the people that run it is evident everywhere. Ave Q was hysterical - go see if while it is running - and the venue was great. Even the restrooms were clean and shiny. Nice. Definitely would go again and you should too! Parking on the street or area lots. read more

I've been there for summer camp and practicing my theater arts there for my 1 year. I've met my friends there from my schools who've the same interests than me. Coming here was lots of fun and entertaining because these skills are good for the future especially to prepare for going to Broadway and performing in NYC in front of a live audience especially live on stage and that can be a big opportunity for a special career. Whether it's being a singer, dancer or an actor there's so much you can do when being an entertainer. read more

Just went to see "Urinetown" last night at the Smithtown Center for Performing Arts. The actors are incredible! I say this as someone who doesn't know any of them. The singing is phenomenal, the direction and choreography is terrific. You could really see some of the cast performing on Broadway. My husband was really impressed. At first we wee both skeptical -- but we were completely SOLD on the excellence of the performance. Will definitely return for future shows. read more

While the productions always are great, especially main stage, the people here are very snobby. Not the happiest cast environment.

With an unassuming humble front it is far too easy to overlook this quaint little community theatre. It's hard to believe that this is a venue that can produce great shows performed by top notched casts. However, if you simply adopt a spirit of adventure, take a chance, and step into the diamond in the rough of Smithtown you'll be rewarded by great entertainment that will brighten life far beyond the night of the performance. It's a lovely charming little theatre, lacking the pretentious grandeur of some theatres on Broadway, but trim and sweet with clean floral carpets, nice decor, and comfortable soft seats. There is a lounge in the front of the theatre where you can hang around in before the show and during intermission. The bathroom on the second floor is very clean, pretty, with a cute country home design. Since the theatre is petite in size, every seat is a good seat, you have a good view of the stage from the orchestra to the balcony. We were seated in row J and we saw everything perfectly. The sound system was pristine with no whining or other impurities in the sound. My bf and I had the opportunity to see Avenue Q, and I was pleasantly surprise with the talent and showmanship that I saw on the stage. I have seen a musical on Broadway beforehand and the cast that performed in Smithtown totally blew them out of the water. There is no parking dedicated for the theatre but you can park in the lots around the area. My bf and I parked in the lot behind the Rite Aid. The theatre people told us that it was OK to park there. Save money by subscribing to all 6 shows of the year and or becoming an annual member for $75 or $300 for a lifetime membership. For 2011 to 2012 subscribing to all 6 shows on Thursdays and Sundays for $140 ($125 for members), for Fridays and Saturdays $150 ($140 for members), and for Thursday Matinees $77 ($69 for members). Broadway caliber performances without the NYC price and all without leaving our beloved island, sounds absolutely amazing to me. Now, let me begin by saying this is basically a community theatre. If you want to see Broadway caliber performances, cough up the $120+ tickets and catch the LIRR into Manhattan. I've seen several shows at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised ("Beauty and the Beast", "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change") other times the shows have been dreadful (Too numerous to list). The kids productions are cute if you know someone who is acting in the shows. So basically, it's a hit or a miss. If you are a gambling man or woman, then by all means buy your tickets to these plays; if not, wait until you read the reviews before purchasing your tickets. Enough said! read more

I came here for a Yelp event last night but have been attending plays here for a number of years. Great asset to the Smithtown area and great alternative to the bars lining Main Street. Get yourself some culture people! Playing now is Murder Ballad a sexy, rock and roll murder mystery. Play starts at 8PM but doors open at 7PM with FREE beer and wine served at the bar on the stage which is part of the play. Culture and free beer, who doesn't like that. read more

As a result of the outstanding acting, voice, and dance classes, advanced character study workshops, summer camp (as a camper and counselor), and the experience of the countless shows she was cast in, my daughter is now a college freshman majoring in the competitive field of musical theatre! She was so well-prepared for the extensive and grueling college audition process as a result of her SPAC experience and training. read more

Opened in 2002 this historic movie house is now a beautiful playhouse presenting musical, comedies, concerts, comedians and more. All performers, musicians and creative personnel are paid and they even employ union actors when called for. We attended a recent production of Man of LaMancha and the quality of the production was superb. This is not your ordinary Long Island Theatre. Give it a shot. ANNIE is currently playing and coming up are productions of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap and The 39 Steps. Great fun close to home at an unbelievable reasonable cost. read more

You can spend a fortune and go to the city to have dinner and show or take your kids to the shows in the city and spend a fortune or you can go to one of the many really good restaurants on Long Island near Smithtown and catch a great show at the theater. Big fail with the last minute cancelation of Curious George today. It is terrible for an acting company when someone gets unexpectedly ill. That is the purpose of having understudies. In small community theatre, that usually means that all the actors prepare to play all the parts. Bottom line is, you do what you need to do- the director steps in, you shift around some scenes, the ticket taker sticks on a yellow hat and does his best. What you do NOT do is turn away a hundred or so excited children under six at the door. Every family walking out said, "What are we going to do now?" and not in the damn, my brunch place has a long wait, where should we go instead kind of way. In the way that every one of us woke up with a toddler who thought they were going to have the best day ever, and there was nothing that could be done to make the disappointment better, because of your poor planning. To top it off, you weren't even very apologetic or compensatory. Say hi to George and come back another day for the same price- maybe we'll have our act together then? No, thank you. read more
