Five American veterans that are turning out EXCEPTIONAL handcrafted vodka, whiskey, and rum! I came to Smoky Quartz this weekend for an event and it was great! They make everything from bourbon to rum, vodka to whiskey, and everyone working there is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. It's a family business that's also veteran-owned and operated. We took a tour and Kevin, the owner, explained everything to us down to the last detail, it was great. I came away with a much bigger knowledge of the distilling process and what goes into running a distillery. We also got to taste some samples (so fun!) and there were snacks put out for us, as well as some mixed punches to try. Everything I tasted was on point, they use local ingredients and it shows. It can be a little tricky to find, it's easy to get to off of the highway since it's on the main drag, but it's hard to see it from the road as it's tucked away towards the end of the shopping plaza. They did put up a new sign so I think that will help. I would return any time! read more

Being in the area on vacation, Bestie and I decided to spend a day touring distilleries and breweries. We found Smoky Quartz on Yelp, and checked out their webpage. They had tickets for their tour available online ($25 for two) and made a reservation. We arrived a bit early, and was greeted by the owner, Kevin, who apologized he couldn't start early for us as he was expecting another couple of people. No problem, since we were intrigued by the products on display in the showroom, and spent 30 minutes perusing the offerings. When tour time came, the other people hadn't arrived, and Kevin explained the origins of the distillery (veteran-owned and -operated, with three generations of family veterans contributing to the construction), and then brought us into the work area. A huge still was front and center, reaching up to the ceiling. Kevin explained the process, from cooking the mash (which he said makes the room smell like freshly baked corn muffins), to how the still worked, and how the raw alcohol turns into any of the several varieties of spirits he manufactures. Being a small distillery, most of the operations are done by hand, rather than mechanized, which puts a personal touch on the finished product. By the time the tour was finished (about 30 minutes, with a lot of our questions about distilling being answered), several people had entered the showroom. This made the tasting of his product more fun, as we could hear the different comments about each spirit. My favorite was the barrel-aged rum, of which I bought a bottle, although I was tempted to also buy a bottle of their bourbon. This is a true local 'grain to grass' distillery, with all the corn they use sourced from the region. In fact, one of the reasons he's having trouble expanding is being able to get as much 'cow corn' (higher starch content than sweet corn) as he would need. However, Smoky Quartz Bourbon is available in all the NH state liquor stores, so if you're not near Seabrook, you can still purchase their product near you. At the end of the tour, we each received a SQD rocks glass (included in the ticket price), which is unique since there's a measuring line (1 oz) embossed in the glass. If you're in the Seabrook area, I would highly recommend that you stop and take the tour. It was one of the highlights of our stay in that area. read more

I booked a tour through living social, and Kevin did not disappoint. He is truly passionate about his work, and it shows all through out the building. From the beautiful reclaimed barn wood inside the lobby, right down to the labeling station in the back. He was very informative about the processes, as well as throwing in some history as well! Another great point is this is a Veteran owned and operated business who use all American sourced products. Now down to the good stuff, the booze! We had a sampling of everything they had to offer, and wow, it was all superb! My favorite is the vodka (which needs to be kept in the freezer!). My husband loved the bourbon! I stumbled upon Smoky Quartz by accident. I just saw a small sign for a distillery on Route 1 in Seabrook. I was greeted at the door by Frank, Kevin's father, who proceeded to let me sample their vodka and moonshine. Having been an aficionado of 'shine for decades, the Granite Lightning floored me! It is hands down the best I have ever tasted! I've had just about every legal form of 'shine available (in New England) and several different types of the home made variety. Granite Lightning beats them all! Frank gave me a tour of the stills and described the process and legalities in detail. I didn't meet Kevin until my second visit. He is a very pleasant and knowledgeable person. Since that visit, every time I stop in, Kevin greets me by my nickname and always takes time to chat. He tries to get to know each and every customer on a personal level. In addition to all this, Smoky Quartz Distillery is Veteran owned and operated and they strive to use 100% local ingredients and Made in America products. They also try to source their gift shop items from local businesses. Smoky Quartz has not only found a customer for life, but I hereby nominate myself as their Number One Fan! read more

I really enjoyed Smoky Quartz. I met Kevin when I wanted some bourbon for a friend's anniversary. I wanted something unique, and I stumbled on this at the NHLS. I bought two bottles, one for me and one for him. It was a good move, cuz I loved the stuff. My friend did as well. I decided to drive to Seabrook to see what was going on over there, and that's when I met Kevin, who is a super nice, very genuine dude. Buy Smoky Quartz in store by all means, but stop in to the distillery. There's a cask strength version of the whiskey that's only available there, and their high test white whiskey as well. read more

We had a Groupon for a tour and tasting that we got since we live nearby and wanted to check it out. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon adventure! The owner gave us a great tour; he was extremely knowledgeable teaching us all manner of interesting things about the distillation process. Also it's just beautiful inside if you're into cool machinery, etc. like my engineer boyfriend. Lastly the tasting was great - the different alcohols were all really good and he had different mixed drink suggestions for each one that have all proven to be spot on! I took a chance on dropping in and I'm glad I did! I picked up a couple of Christmas gifts for family members and was pleased with how the cute, small-ish store front was set up. A tour was being conducted in the distillery when I arrived, but I was assured that my business was very important to them. In the meantime, I got to try a sampling of their bourbon and was very impressed! I am no bourbon drinker by any means, but could appreciate the nice, smooth finish and accompanying warmth. I am a "whiskey" kinda gal. My brother brought me a sample of Smoky Quartz Moonshine to give a whirl. I thought it was amazing, it didn't leave me with that solid tequila after taste. It had a great after taste and over amazing taste! I tagged along on a trip from Massachusetts to check the place out! It is immaculately clean. Kevin (the owner?) was amazing! He took me for a quick tour. He explained the process, and was a great soul! I was impressed with the American Pride with this place as well! I am looking forward to the upcoming Bourbon!! They may just convert me totally! He was extremely knowledgeable and the bourbon is fantastic (didn't try anything else as I'm just a bourbon drinker). Grabbed me a bottle for just $25. The owner showed us around and told us everything we wanted to know about the distilling process. Clearly very passionate about the business. Easy to get to and well worth the visit.
