Im usually very hesitant to try a new place, esp for brazilians since i have very sensitive skin and I was pleasantly surprised :) Usually I have a woman that I go to back home that uses soft wax and since European Wax Center allllways left my skin feeling raw with their hard wax I figured my skin was just too sensitive for that stuff but I was wrong! She used hard wax after prepping the skin with special oils and powder so my skin wouldn't be irritated. She was very knowledgeable and has had over 20 years of experiences! Can't say enough about how pleased I am with this waxing salon. I have been getting Brazilians for about five years now and Sarah is hands down the best. (She also recommended the loofah glove for the time in between waxes, and it makes a world of difference.) The ambiance is comfortable and laid back, the prices are great, and it is easy to call in and make appointments and to pay. Came here for my first ever bikini wax with friends who recommended this place to me while they were having a 50% off deal. SCORE! They are known for their Brazilian, so get on it! (Usual is $50 for maintenance, paid $25) They also recommended it because of all the places they've tried in Santa Cruz so far, Smooth "hurts the least", That's good to know. But aside from their promotion, everything there was 5-star rating worthy! Reception from the moment my party stepped in was fantastic. Really helpful and upbeat. However, what will keep me returning was Veronica. She was professional, yet personal. She kept the conversation really comfortable and was easy to talk to, which was a plus since I just kept talking (to keep my mind off the ripping, which causes me to tense and thus hurt more). She was impressed that I decided to go all out on my first bikini wax and opt for the Brazilian, but it was so worth it. I had a facial, so thats what I can speak to. If you see a groupon offered for Smooth, snatch it up, you won't regret it one bit! All around great experience! Highlights include: perfect balance of I want to chat/peaceful quietness, extreme attention to detail (digging blackheads out of my nose!), super clean facility, and results orientated facial. This place is fabulous! It's clean, everyone is friendly and accommodating, the vibe is laid back, but very professional. I love the wax at Smooth because it's NOT removed with strips of fabric - it's hard wax, which is so much nicer to the skin. I never leave with red skin. I've seen both Veronica and Sheri - both are great! You will feel comfortable and taken care of. I use to go here for years. The shop is adorable in a cute & trendy part of town on the west side. They use to have some really fantastic waxers however they didn't stay long. Once they left I was bounced around a bit including a last minute change requiring the owner to accomplish waxing. Wow, that didn't go well. I had skin ripped off and not all the hair was removed. I have now found a great waxer without the high turnover and this is very important to me when considering how personal nature of waxing. As a side note, I have a disabled child and we where playing at a local beach when I noticed the owner, she didn't notice me, I was going to say smile if she caught my eye as she was walking towards my son with a friend of hers when she made some snarky comment to her friend regarding my son's atypical play laughing. Net/net, I don' think the owner is good at what she does and she may not be the nicest person (hence the high turnover). read more

Got a 50 minute facial with a papaya peel from Sheri, the owner. Her knowledge from 20 + years of experience made for a most excellent facial. I am stoked on the find. Details: Clean, hip urban space, curtained off individual treatment areas, warm, gentle, knowledgeable (repeat, but important) & thorough. I think this just might be the best priced facial for the service in town. I was formerly going to a Ultra Derm, a "Med Spa" but the price for the service were steep for me. I have recently been to a Spa in SF at the old Presidio that is considered to be a "Top SF Spa" and I found Smooth A Waxing Lounge to be right up there with the service I received in the City, only this is much closer. I have no idea how this establishment has 5 stars. I have friends that go for waxing and they have all love it there so I assume they must do a good job with that. I, however, went in for tanning. First of all, the lady that sprayed me seemed snobby and was quite rude in her demeanor. Secondly, the evolv sidekick "heated" spray gun was not at all heated. I don't know if the temperature is possibly adjustable but if so, she had it on a low setting. Additionally she did not spray the tan evenly and there is weird super dark spots in certain places. And super white spots in others. I have received a spraytan from another salon where they use a spray tan machine (which turned out amazing) but was told airbrush tanning is better. Lies. Unless my lady was just especially terrible. I would give this place 1 star but I give it two just because the receptionist was very nice and personable. And again I want to relay that THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THEIR SPRAY TANNING SERVICES. I have never been to smooth for waxing. read more

After having a bad eyebrow experience at a salon I would regularly visit In San Francisco and having a major part of my eyebrow taken off, it was really hard to feel safe getting my eyebrows done ever again. My sister recommended another place that ending up going to and liking and they got the job done, but that salon is in San Mateo; now that I live in Santa Cruz I never have the time to go there anymore so it was time to try to trust a local salon to do the job. After reading the yelp reviews I decided to come here and it was a great decision! The receptionist was super friendly and welcoming and I loved Veronica! She was so nice and did a fabulous job with my brows. They have never looked better! I have already booked my next appointment and l will definitely come again - probably more regularly than I ever have for my eyebrows because now that my eyebrows are literally perfect I am more than willing to keep them well maintained with Veronica's help :) So on point ! read more

Wonderful experience at Smooth Body Lounge! I am very fair skinned all year round and am too scared to try tanning beds. I have been to another spray tan salon in Santa Cruz but like most other places I came out looking like an oompa loompa. After doing some research I came across Smooth and decided to make an appointment. I went on their website and made an appointment online for the same day. About 30 min later Casey emailed me back and let me know that they were completely booked. I was a little dissappointed because I didnt want to be the pale chubby girl at the wedding I was attending that weekend. I let Casey know that if ANYTHING opens up to please call me so I can go in and get a tan. I was set that I wasnt going to be able to get into the salon the same day but out of no where Casey called me and let me know that they were able to squeeze me in at the time that I exactly wanted! I was so happy and so relived. That call made my day! The same day I went in, got naked (i cannot remember her name but who ever spray tanned me made me feel super comfortable). and got a FAB spray tan. ALSO, their spray machine is WARM! I came out looking healthy, tan, and awesome! and they even complimented me after :) I HIGHLY recommend Smooth Body Lounge! They obviously go out of their way to satisfy first time costumers. I had a negative experience at this studio. The woman that did my Brazilian wax was very nice and personable, but she seemed inexperienced and rushed. She also made a comment that she had pinkeye at the time, which I was less than thrilled about. The waxing was very painful, and she did not wax all areas requested. I left the studio with stubble that I felt compelled to remove myself at home, and a day or two later, I developed monstrous ingrown hairs, even with appropriate after-care. I have had Brazilians done before by highly skilled technicians, which were moderately uncomfortable, but tolerable, and very thorough-- and I never left with trace hairs or developed ingrown hairs. I will not return to this place, even though my experience was with only one technician. read more
