Today, you'll find a strange museum that houses what the owners say is evidence of alien encounters in the area. We had our dog, Doug, with us and were allowed to bring him in with us as long as we carried him. So I definitely got my workout in that day! The museum is tiny and costs $10 per adult. Did I understand everything in the museum? Did it make sense? Umm, definitely not! But we think it was well worth the stop for the weird experience alone. Before you leave, make sure you stop at the little store at the base of the museum to pick up some beef jerky.

The gift shop is small and they are expecting more inventory soon. The displays were nice and informative. I like the history of the location and information about project Icarus. The women on site were very friendly. We didn't pick up snacks at the store but it seems like the jerky is something worth trying. There was one additional shop on site that was closed but has beautiful sculptures near it. I recommend you to stop by, stretch your legs, and get creeped out by the alien stories. Scenic (and dangerously scary) drive in Oatman AZ…read more Route 66 crosses the top of the Black Mountains via Sitgreaves Pass (elevation 3,523 feet). This was a fun and scary drive part of Historic Route 66! When hubby was driving on this mountain pass on our way to Oatman, I had to cover my eyes sometimes but then I would get dizzy so I kept my eyes open LoL! It took us about 45 minutes to reach the town of Oatman driving through an entirely paved road with very few guardrails. I would not attempt driving this road after dark. I managed to bookmark this spot thanks to Norm K's review. Following the directions, I lost reception near the dam. There was a sign by the road marking it as closed, and I was about to turn around when I saw another car heading that way, so I decided to follow. It turns out the dam itself was closed to pedestrians, so walking across wasn't allowed. However, you can park on either side of the dam and walk around to enjoy the views. There isn't much in terms of amenities--no visitor center, restrooms, or informational boards--but the scenery makes up for it. The views were beautiful, with barely anyone around, and the warm weather in this area was a bonus. If you're planning to take the 10 Freeway, chances are you'll pass by this dam.

We have the major Southern Pacific rail yard, a major West Coast rail center as part of Roseville's railroad heritage,... Kingman was founded in 1882 as a small railroad town during the construction of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad and in 1883 Kingman was established as a railroad stop. Locomotive Park is not very big, you can see the "Welcome to Kingman" archway from the park. There is ample parking spaces for visitors. This is home to famed Steam Engine #3759. Visitors can climb aboard the train but use caution. It was retired in 1953, having traveled over 2,585,600 miles. The marker at the park was an interesting read. When #3759 was retired and given to the town of Kingman Santa Fe section crews laid a temporary rail line across Route 66 to the park. As soon as the engine was across the street, the track was torn up. It was the shortest-lived railroad line that the Santa Fe had ever built, lasting for about 45 minutes. It was then it had its official dedication "old 3759." In 1987 caboose 999520 was retired and donated to Kingman to be added to the #3759 display. In its operational life, it was used in mainline transcontinental pool caboose services. Visitors can also climb aboard the front and the back end of the caboose. A community project called "The Great Locomotive Pull" was organized and drew a crowd of 4,000 where some 1,200 of them took rope in hand to move the nearly half-million pound iron creature 30 feet forward to its new resting spot. Wow! instead of just bringing in a heavy equipment and move the locomotive they got the whole town involved. Amazing! It took "10 seconds." Near the west end of Locomotive Parks is the Beale Monument on which is inscribed the story of Lt. Edward Beale. The Visitors Center is just right across the street at the old Powerhouse. We started our hike early in the morning and I would definitely recommend not starting late morning/early afternoon as it will take you some time if you stop to read all the placards and take the journey trail down to the actual memorial site where the firefighters lost their lives. Bring lots of water and sunscreen and be prepared for a 5+ hour trip in and out. The trail is well maintained and groomed, but it is still challenging and long, but well worth the effort. Parking is also very limited so check ahead to see if shuttles are running from the town of Yarnell. Once you get to the starting point there are two large porta potties that are also meticulously clean.

What makes this landmark so unique is that this isn't just a replica--it's the actual London Bridge that once crossed the River Thames in England. Built in the 1830s, the bridge was eventually sold in the late 1960s when it could no longer handle modern traffic. It was carefully dismantled, shipped across the Atlantic, and reconstructed right here in Lake Havasu City. How many places can say they have a piece of England sitting in the middle of the Arizona desert? Walking across the bridge and along the Bridgewater Channel was such a fun experience. The area is lively, scenic, and filled with cute shops, restaurants, waterfront views, and plenty of people enjoying the sunshine. It's the perfect place to grab a coffee, take a leisurely stroll, or simply soak in the atmosphere. I also love that there's history woven into the experience. It's one thing to admire a beautiful bridge, but knowing its incredible journey from London to Arizona makes it that much more special. Whether you're visiting Lake Havasu for the first time or you've been here before, the London Bridge is a must-see. It's one of those attractions that's equal parts history lesson, photo opportunity, and relaxing afternoon all rolled into one.

You WILL see a donkey while you are here, it is a for sure. While you are here, enjoy the touristy stores full of donkey inspired items. Do buy the donkey food and feed the donkeys. Please do not bring carrots to feed them. Although the donkeys LOVE them, there are many that have diabetes because of their high sugar intake from the over-indulging on carrots. Visit the museums in town and learn about its mining history. See the hotel and enjoy that small museum as well. Be transported back to the old west through the stories and views. If you are here at the right time, you may even see a reenactment of a gun fight, right on the main street outside the saloon. Use the many photo ops to create memories and be sure to take Route 66 out of town for a whole other adventure! This town is perfect for young and old alike. Be sure to leave yourself a few hours to wonder around. You will be so glad you made the trek!

We spent a day in Oatman, Az. It was a spectacle. Let's start with the drive in...something called…read more"Sidewinder Road". If you are driving a larger RV, come in from the other direction...this road is so much fun, cutbacks, hairpin turns oh...and beware of a stray donkey or two. Take advantage of some of the amazing overlooks down into the valley. When you get to town, watch where you step, donkeys have taken over this ghost town and they do not care where they leave their "stuff". Make sure to buy some "donkey food" they will eat right out of your hand...and if you are in your car they will stick their head in n to see what you have for them. We brought our 6 year old granddaughter and she spent the entire time giggling at the donkeys. Outside of the donkeys, there are mine tours and plenty of shops to get whatever trinkets your heart may desire.
