It offers many routes from scree slogs, to snow & ice, to nationally-renowned multi-pitch alpine rock routes. (North Ridge is on the coveted "50 classic climbs in North America list". I climbed this mountain via ice cliff glacier, a fun moderate ice route that is hard to get good conditions on.

I…read morefinally got the chance to do it this past weekend and it was 100% warranted as as bucket list destination. Doing some research before the hike we learned that the parking lot is pretty much full before 7am. We reached there by around 6:45am and it was entirely full and people were parking down the road. We were even as far as at least half a mile away from the actual trailhead when we actually parked, but luckily the walk is pretty flat. The beginning of the trailhead has a bathroom that will have a lengthy line in the morning, and it is gross. Just be prepared! In total, we clocked almost 9 miles round trip and it took us just shy of 7 hours. That said, we did spend about an hour at the top to take in all of the views and the experience as a whole. I knew this trail would be challenging and I'd say it was probably the second hardest I've ever done (maybe the third), with the first being Mailbox Peak. There are some incredibly tough stretches with steep rock stairs and areas where it feels like you're scrambling a ton. There are moderate breaks where the trail flattens, but it's pretty challenging the entire length of the hike. The end point, the actual lake, is entirely worth the pain and "I don't know if I can do this" moments along the way. Absolutely STUNNING. Probably the most unreal colored water I've ever seen with the shade of blue that it was. The mountains encompassing the lake look fake - literally like AI in real life or something. Truly is a great spot to find a nice rock to sit and relax to enjoy lunch and reenergize for the trek down the trail. After hitting the bottom, it was a loooong walk back to the car with us being so wiped. Much to our disappoint we also discovered that ALL of the cars parked along the road received $100 tickets from the Chelan PD, despite there being no signs that said we couldn't park along the road (just on the bridge, which we weren't on). Overall Colchuck Lake was worth the wait and I'm so glad to have seen it finally - I just don't think I'll ever do it again LOL.

We were camping at Nason Creek Campground and just as we started exploring, we saw this stable and…read morechecked it out. Horse rides were $32 for a 2 mile ride (approx 45 minutes) per person. I made an appointment for the next morning at 9am, and the next day when we showed up they were expecting us. The horses looked healthy and happy. The stable hands treated the horses with care as they saddled them up and helped us get situated. Jake was our trail leader. He did a good job of keeping us entertained, teaching us about horses and things we encountered, answering questions, and just being friendly. He is collecting dad jokes for better trail material, so be sure to share your favorites with him. Our 45 minute ride was mostly through the forest. We crossed a road several times. There is beauty in the forest, but we did not get to any territorial views. There is also a 4 mile, 1/2 day, and full day option so it might be that they have time to get to even better views. This was not my first ride, but I'm by no means a cowboy. I had fun. It was my son's first real horse ride and he enjoyed it. I would go again.

Now, 15 years later, we've come back with the next generation of our family and they are still just as wonderful. My sister-in-law and I wanted to take my two young nephews (two and three years old) on a trail ride with us, so we called to schedule one for the next day. But oops, we accidentally made a reservation with their Leavenworth location in town rather than their location at the State Park on Lake Wenatchee. When we showed up this morning for our reservation, there was no guide there! We called in, and Megan immediately helped us resolve our scheduling mistake and personally saw to it that we would still get a ride in that day. Two hours later (we killed time at the playground at the state park), we were back at the stable and on our horses (July and Cookie) with the boys! Megan personally took us on our ride, and was an amazing guide-- very patient with the littles and constantly checking in with us to make sure they were doing okay. If you're looking for a family friendly stable in the area, you've GOT to go with Icicle!

A short 1.75 mile trail gets you to two beautiful alpine lakes. A little longer and you can reach…read morethe summit of Labyrinth Mountain (an official summit with a register). The main downside is that most of that 1.75 miles is super steep and unforgiving. I think technically it's not even a real trail, it's a "route" -- basically just a path to get you up as quickly as possible. But you'll forget all of your suffering as soon as you reach the lakes. You'll see the shores of Minotaur with Labyrinth Mountain in the background, and there are trails going around both sides of the lake, with plenty of nice campsites available. If you go around the right side of the lake, the network of trails will lead to many viewpoints down to Theseus Lake. You can get down to Theseus, too, but it's a steep fisherman's trail that descends several hundred feet, so not recommended unless you really want solitude. The social network of trails to Labyrinth can make the summit trip a little longer depending on what path you choose, but the openness of the terrain ensures that you won't get lost. There's a false summit or two. Facing Labyrinth from Minotaur Lake, the true summit is on the right. There's a summit register you can sign and glorious views, including Lake Wenatchee and Glacier Peak. I went in the summer, but it would be gorgeous in the fall with the brilliant colors, and I saw a lot of huckleberry plants.

There's no actual parking lot but plenty of room for a dozen cars to park down below on the side of the road. We only saw four other people the entire time we were there. It took us an hour and 20 minutes to get to Minotaur Lake from parking. It only took us about 10 minutes less to go down... As I said it's very steep!!! I highly recommend going over to see Theseus Lake and the vista (to the right when you see Minotaur Lake). It was 80° in Leavenworth today but it was under 60 when we got up to the lake so be sure you take sleeves. You should also take bug spray with DEET.... The mosquitoes are heavy in places. Most of the hike is in shaded areas in afternoon.

DJ has 30 years rafting experience and his partner Michelle 14. The 5 of us were outfitted with wet suits, booties and life jackets. DJ guided us safely down the Wenatchee river with Michelle as support in her own raft in case of a mishap. It was smooth sailing, with a series of wild swell rapids and time in between to spot birds and admire the scenery. We felt extra taken care of when we spotted some guides in training down the river and DJ chuckled at their mistakes. Couldn't ask for a more affordable or reliable company.

The hike is of a moderate level and took us about three hours including resting time at the top. Make sure to wear shoes with grip to prevent slipping on the dirt trail. No restrooms are available at the trailhead. The beginning and end of the trail is primarily a walk through a forest, while the middle section is out in the open showing a different view of Leavenworth. Not much wildlife was seen besides a couple of birds. The flowers weren't in season and we mostly saw dandelions. Once you reach the peak, there is a clearing to enjoy the mountains and village view. No parking pass or fee is required. The parking lot is the small loop encountered after turning in from Icicle Road. A No Parking sign upon entry had confused us, but it refers to the road itself so as to not block the entryway and leave way. If you continue along the loop, there is a sign for parallel parking on the left side as well as blocks of parking lots to the side. Only two other cars were parked when we arrived at 7:20 AM on Friday, and most of the spots were filled when we returned at 10:20 AM.
