Dr. Yancy has a wonderful bedside manner. He explained everything as he went along and while it was generally not the the most fun I ever had, I experienced no pain during the procedure. He is a wonderful endodontist, and should I need another root canal, I will certainly return. I was treated with great care and compassion by everyone in the office, and as I was I quite nervous for the procedure, it really helped put me at ease. FYI: the practice is limited to endodontics, so this is not a general dentist.

Due to the placement of his microscope, I even got to watch in the reflection of the microscope. I felt so much better after getting a nap afterward and was even able to eat dinner that evening. Let me start by saying--I hate going to the dentist. It takes more mental preparation than running…read morea marathon. I need to hype myself up just to book the appointment, and then double that to actually show up. But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. Dr. Derksen, you've earned a lifetime patient... just maybe not a lifetime of root canals, please.

Squirted oral antibiotic on the tooth and sent him home. We had to get a prescription from our regular dentist, which took time. He wound up contracting septic shock and was hospitalized. This man never checked on him, never followed up. The oral surgeon who finally came to the hospital and took out the tooth said that, until the tooth was removed, the abcess couldn't be cured.

Unfortunately once I got there I was told they do not take my medicaid even though we asked prior to coming to their office. They said we were wasting their time by taking up an appointment slot and should have just paid out of pocket. The wife of the dentist confirmed on the phone that the insurance was approved and they would be able to fix my cracked tooth. She claimed once we were there that she said never said such a thing. One of the keys to customer service is making sure you communicate and don't over promise your customer they failed on that count. Don't trust what they tell you on the phone!!!
