I came here for a play during the In Scena Italian theater festival…read more The venue is certainly off the beaten path, about a 20 minute walk from the G train in an industrial neighborhood. I was skeptical if we were in the right place, but staff warmly greeted us from the staircase outside and welcomed us in. The play was on the second floor in a lofted warehouse space with high ceilings. The venue seems to be used as a workshop or studio space as well. A pleasantly provocative collection of art adorned the walls and folding chairs were arranged for the audience to sit. There was one all-gender bathroom. From my aisle seat in the third row, I was mostly able to see all of the scenes, but did have to crane a few times when the actors were not centered or lower to the ground. After the play, they invited us to the roof to enjoy complimentary wine and snacks. The roof was wonderful, with stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, and tons of plants and garden space. Before leaving, we peeked around the side of building, where there were more potted plants and a great view of the creek. All the staff were very friendly. The space is used for many different artistic purposes and has a rich history of embracing sustainability, immigrant inclusivity, and community building. Very grateful to have had the chance to visit and hope to be back.

The works were pretty cool, they had a serious array of catered treats, and I'm also happy to say, that my friends and I were able to try some awesome Finnish candy, for the first time ever. It was a cute little spot and I have to say, I really liked it!

The irony of going to see an exhibition about the crime ridden streets of 80's Times Square in the rapidly gentrifying Lower East Side was not lost upon me as I walked past street art painted on brick even as a new glass and steel hotel rose up into the sky casting a shadow on a nearby Chinese supermarket. It was, to me, a very contradictory set of images. The gallery itself is so non-descript that if you are not looking for it, you will walk right past it. There is no giant sign, so if you are going there, just keep an eye out for the building number. When you see the door that looks like it goes into some random office, that's the one. The front area has a small counter where the folks running the gallery are situated. You go in and there is a wide open space with a column in the middle. I have no idea what this space was before, but clearly it was not always a gallery. I almost wished the walls and ceilings could talk. There are four walls large enough to hold paintings the size of a person, and I found standing around where the column was gave you some of the best views. To my surprise, there was a smaller room in the back with some more art. This was a separate exhibition than the main room. The walls aren't quite as big there and there is not as much room to stand so this is where the smaller paintings were displayed. I wound up purchasing Dickson's book and the staff was super nice about it, making sure to bring me out a fresh, shrink wrapped copy and thanking me for my visit. I had a nice, brief visit to the James Fuentes gallery and I would happily go again.

I did not spend much time here because the large explicit paintings were hard to digest and despite the great number of paintings exhibited, the large space was half empty. The Chelsea gallery is in an…read morearea where the main thing that differentiates one gallery from another is the art on display. This gallery was transformed. In the main gallery there was an embossed form coming from the wall and up along the ceiling with 3D art in plexiglass boxes lining the opposite wall. The back room was transformed into a cave with large organic stalactites hanging from the ceiling, smooth, lacquered black and shimmering with hints of blue and green pearl. The show continues into Dec. and is an interesting look at architecture as sculpture.

Malta and Siobhan Gallagher! The show was called "Truth or Dare". I was one of the first to arrive on the scene. I love that the combo has done some larger pieces and inside a wooden paneled room was each of their work. The bright colors flowed together but they still each have a signature style. The gallery was inside of a larger space that is used for different artists or business people. A very modern set up. I guess there's a furniture business also set up in the space. There was a guest bartender ( drexy___spice )at the event. She was super cool and I loved how she used gummy worms as garnish. Some were not so into the gummies and she had to scoop some out. But the rest of us we're addicted. There is also two unisex bathrooms. I enjoyed the art piece squeezed into one of them. I will be keeping an eye out for future art show and events.

Overall rating: 4.5…read more Have been wanting to check this place out for months & finally did over one of its Sundays. Admittedly, I also went to its drag wrestling match and strongly disliked it. So will likely not come back for any of its events. That said, as a studio itself - it's very informative and easy to digest. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the founder's studio next door. A sight to be seen & will be bringing my tourists' friends back. Strongly recommend the studio.

Lighting and acoustics are fine and plenty of room to move around. The staff is courteous and very friendly. A nice touch is that the bar offers free water during the concert. I know it's a little thing, but it does go along way. Nice job littlefield!
