I have a confession to make: I don't drink coffee. That much caffeine makes me jittery like a heroin addict, and unless I'm going to give up heroin, I just don't need it. So I can't speak on the coffee here.* But I do a lot of work out of coffee shops, and I have to say that Clover's might be my favorite. The space is beautiful, clean and inviting. The service is almost TOO nice, and my chai latte was completely delicious. I wish the seating was a bit more conducive to work; the tables hold my laptop and not much more, but they have plugs at nearly every seat, and a ledge on the right that can hold more than a few people. Also, the classical music being pumped in is so much more relaxing, not to mention more conducive to work, than the punk, metal, indie whatever that you usually encounter at coffee shops. Art gallery meets café, serving up contemporary classical music and Intelligentsia Clover coffee? Yes, please! Any joint that's willing to drop the multiple thousands of dollars for a Clover machine is a joint that I immediately presume to take their coffee seriously. That they use Intelligentsia roaster's products just solidifies that stance. There's something so -utterly- hipster and nose-upturning about sipping on a deliciously-brewed cuppa while cranking away on my Macbook, facing an exposed brick wall, sitting under an undoubtedly pricey cloth papier-mâché sculpture. I even got asked to step outside while making a phone call by another patron... which I was more than happy to do. Seriously. People talk to each other here, even if it's just to call each other out. My original plan was to go to Absolute Coffee (across the street) to work after our lunch at Mile End; after all, when I looked up "cafe free wifi" near Mile End, Absolute Coffee was 0.08 miles away. Clover's Fine Art Gallery is actually closer. As we made the tiny trek to Absolute Coffee, all three of us were arrested by the sight of Clover's Fine Art Gallery: a woman was sitting at a desk with her laptop open, and the cafe stretched out into a tastefully arranged gallery. We decided to forego our plans (well, we did go back to Absolute Coffee from 6-7pm when Clover's closed at 6pm) and just worked there. It is such a lovely space - I can't underestimate what a charming cafe/gallery it is. Not all of the outlets work (check to make sure there's a green light), but that's totally fine. The reason that Clover's gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that I was personally disappointed by the drink/dessert options, but I'm a bit particular. I settled for a combination of the mint tea (unsweetened) + limeade, and it was quite good. (I'd say it's better than the mint tea on its own, which my friend got). I'm also kind of weird and hate ice, but the woman still put in a lot of ice when I asked for less ice. :( It's a fairly quiet space, and the art gallery is great to peruse if you need to stretch your limbs. It was a pleasure to work with Clover and Yanique. My husband and I were impressed by their overall professionalism and their attention to detail. We couldn't of asked for a better place to host our exhibit, for the first impression leaves a lasting impression, and I believe we did just that! My colleague literally *skipped* down the street bursting with excitement to go to this place. I fully understand that velocity now... It's fuqqin' HUGE. HUGE. You can fit an Olympic sized pool inside this place. There's space to think, there's space to breathe, it's quiet, the bar has really comfortable padded leather stools. Also this place doubles as a music lounge and art gallery--- there is a gorgeous camel colored, plush leather loveseat I almost took a nap on in the back. The coffee is soooooooooooooo sooooooooo soooooooooo good here. Sooooooooo good. So, so so so so so so so good. Rich, toasty, aromatic, and resounding with earthy tones. I had four cappuccinos, each one was better than the last and the barista made a heart with foam on each one of them, awww. It's a very cool space but nobody is pretentious here, there's a solid neighborhood vibe. Six stars. read more

***RENTERS BEWARE*** I never knew one of the most happiest celebratory moments would turn sour at the end of the evening. What a mistake it was to rent this space. I would like to first start off with the positives as this post is not to slander the space. Outside of having my event on the hottest day in NYC. The AC not working to its full potential because the owner turned it off. The toilet clogging and the owner having us unclog it. The space is still decent art gallery. However NOT an EVENT SPACE! Now the other question to ask yourself before renting is....Do you really want to rent from the money grubbing, unorganized switch and bait lawyer that owns this place? I knew there was multiple red flags coming into this and wishing now I trusted my gut before signing the dotted line. There was multitude of issues from not returning my calls/ emails to charging us ridiculous amounts of money for frozen appetizers and never being upfront with all her fees. All in all I still proceeded and squared away all things prior to my event. It didn't dawn on me how ruthless and distasteful the owner could be until the evening of my event. She was rude and condescending to all my guest. It was so bad that my guest started to apologize to me for her behavior! She harassed us about standing too close to her paintings. She harassed us about bringing glasses back to the bar. She also was the bartender which was a total disaster. She served the cheapest wine you could fine and rationed it out to my guest with a scowl on her face. She ignored my guest when they would ask her questions. She was so unbelievably unprofessional and rude. Not understanding her demeanor and not wanting to cause more friction at my event. I decided to wait until the end of the evening. As I thought it couldn't get any worst it did. Our security deposit was taken from us because she claimed we had more people than originally contracted for. When I walked over to her so we could settle the head count that she did, with no clicker and behind the bar while being rude to my guess. She screamed at me and said "I'm not doing this right now." As if I wasn't even a client that had spent my money curating an event at her studio that is typically closed. I must say if you have choices for event places please look for another one as this place is not worth the headache. read more

Clover's coffee? But why, one might ask? 1. They have a Clover machine. Booya(kasha). That means amazing drip coffee, individualized to the minute I order it. 2. The owner's name, ideally enough, also happens to be Clover. This place is great. I give it 4, rather than 5 stars, because it usually happens to be kind of dead when I go in. The front acts as a small cafe, and the back has some sparse seating, and doubles as a gallery. Saturdays they have jazz and whatnot. Now, down to the nitty gritty: 1. To reiterate: CLOVER machine! 2. They have intelligensia coffee. Mmmmm. 3. Their coffee's are great. I've never NOT put sugar in my drip coffee before but here I find myself not really needing to put any. They have four different kinds of beans. 4. The barista's are really cool. The cute curly haired red head chick (I really need to get her name...) explained all of the different coffees to me, their distinct flavors, etc. Only downsides 1-Kind of quiet as I said 2-I've never quite paid so much for drip coffee before. They range in price-cheapest being 2.50 (which I didn't particularly love) and most expensive-and noteworthy-being the Kenyan, at a whopping 4.25. Now, I can appreciate my coffee...but not sure if I can afford to like this all the time. All in all, Clover's is awesome and I hope it'll become a neighborhood mainstay. read more

Tried the coffee at 10am (Intelligensia Kenyan, courtesy of a Clover machine), and went back for the espresso following brunch at 12pm. The first trip was good enough to warrant the second, where the people behind the counter usually just assume you forgot your glasses or umbrella. Instead, she remembered that we had talked about the espresso, and knew we had come back for our fix. The barista was extraordinarily knowledgeable about the coffee, the process, and really exuded a love of coffee. Combine that with a solid product, and I call it a great experience. My wife and I had our wedding party at Clover's in June, after doing the ceremony on Governor's Island. I'd been meaning to write a good review here for a while, and arrived to see that someone had a very different experience in August. Our arrangement and expectations were different, for sure, but it also sounds like Murphy's Law may have been in effect that night. For our part, we knew that it was a gallery with a small staff, and not a regular event space, but the price was reasonable enough by NYC wedding standards and we liked dealing with Rosette and Clover in the weeks leading up to the event. We arranged food ourselves--from Mile End around the corner and sweets from Dough and Mia's (also all recommended). Clover's handled drinks, service, and setup. We had problems with the ferry schedule on Governor's Island and people started heading back early; my brother-in-law hustled to Clover's and told everyone they might not have as much setup time as anticipated. I'm not sure how they managed, but everything was running smoothly by the time my wife and I arrived, not long after the party was scheduled to begin. The rest of the event went just fine; things that weren't necessarily our ideal vision for the evening were almost all stuff we could have nailed down if we'd had a little more foresight and planning time. If you're considering hosting an event there, here are all the benefits we saw: * A colorful, spacious setting with cool art with a space-rental fee that was very competitive with other estimates we got in the neighborhood. * Wine and beer at a decent per-head price. We aren't connoisseurs or anything, but Rosette checked with us a couple of times about what kind of wine we wanted, and we ended up with a Malbec and a Sauvignon Blanc that we were very happy with--not Chateau Lafite, but definitely not Two-Buck Chuck. Initially they hadn't realized we wanted beer, but when we clarified that not long before the event they made it happen, providing Red Stripe and a couple of other varieties. * The service was great. We were a little surprised to arrive and find Rosette and Clover were working the bar themselves, but for us it was a nice bonus to have on-hand the people we'd done the planning with. We got several comments that the staff was nice, most importantly from my parents. * Reasonably flexible set-up times and no hassles bringing in outside (licensed) caterers. * A good two-zone sound system. We had hoped to have dancing, but ran out of time to properly prepare a playlist and come in ahead of time to test out the volume control. (The receivers are old, but there is a cable for phones/iPads, etc.) Also it was effing hot that day and everyone was pretty zonked by the time we all got to the gallery. The A/C worked fine for us, and the staff kept the ice water vats filled and flowing. The drawbacks? * There is only one bathroom, and we had a lineup going for most of the night. It's probably not suitable for more than sixty people for that reason alone. We had 80 or more at peak. * Per-head prices are bound to cause disputes sometimes, as they did for Jenny J. In our case we probably had fewer people, staying less long, than we paid for, but we didn't feel as though the price ended up out of hand. * They're not (and don't claim to be) full-service big-event planners. They have the capacity to do modest events really well. Ours was on the big side, and we ended up glad that we'd done outside catering. We badly underestimated how many chairs and tables we needed, but that was our fault--we thought people would be mingling more and didn't realize quite how much space there would be for furniture. If you're aware of the limitations, this can be a terrific place for an event. We don't have any regrets. The only reason I hesitated to give the place five stars is the bathroom situation--even for smaller parties, you'd ideally have at least two. read more

I think I need to go back to this place to really give it a fair shot. Had a weird experience here when I self-indulgently ordered the Nutella Banana Panini and an Americana. Apparently the woman working at the counter had been hoarding the last banana for her snack and was openly pissed and trying to deter me from ordering it. Sh*t got awkward to be frank. I ordered it anyway because it looked awesome and it was rainy and I was feeling like a jerk I guess. But, the lady was still cool and hooked up a delicious panini and coffee for me. I was out strolling down Atlantic Avenue, and came across this refreshing oasis of tranquility and beauty amidst the neighboring plethora of restaurants and boutiques. Clover's features works of international artisans, in a tasteful and serene atmosphere. The locale would be an awesome place to hold a birthday party or other event, and can be rented. There is a cafe/bar at the front, offering teas, coffee and other libations. The best part of my visit, was getting to meet one of the featured Argentinian artists, and the warm conversation with the hostess, Rosette!! Looking forward to a return visit real soon!! read more

Let me start by saying that previous to Clover's Cafe, I had a genuine distaste for coffee of all forms, and could only half-heartedly sip a cup out of pure necessity. Now, I crave their Latte's and skillfully crafted iced coffees. While I don't get the best vibes from the Cafe's owner, her staff are all sweet as pie, and reaaaallly know how to make a good cup. The walls are always suited with the work of local artists, and apparently they have Jazz nights every Wed. and Friday. This is certainly a multi-talented little shop. My only gripes? The coffee is not cheap, and they open too late in the morning for me to grab some caffeine on the way to work. (poop!) 100 stars! My (now) husband and I were planning a last minute Indian wedding. We found Clover's Fine Art Gallery while walking the streets of downtown Brooklyn looking for venues. The gallery was the perfect size, and we loved the chic, modern style of the venue. The venue was available on our desired date and Clover helped put this wedding together -- in six weeks -- at a very reasonable price. She has everything you need and is willing to accommodate outside vendors if you prefer. As this was an Indian wedding, we had a few requests that Clover and her staff accommodated. We had booked Clover's gallery for the entire day with the wedding ceremony in the morning and reception in the evening. Clover and her staff organized decor, seating, our wedding cake, refreshments, the sound system, the DJ, cocktails, and a million other things I am forgetting at the moment. Our parents, and families in general, very much enjoyed the event, and we can't thank Clover enough for being so helpful, organized, accommodating and just so pleasant to work with. Everything went smoothly and we had the time of our lives. I highly recommend Clover's Fine Art Gallery for an event. i came here with a thesis student who needed to work on her thesis we heard good things there was an art opening here on a weekend afternoon that was well-attended needless to say i made her do 'work' at the Brooklyn Inn nearby anyway there were a lot of coat racks at this event wet coats on them, it was raining. read more

I'm not a huge reviewer but I figured this place deserved it. I felt so welcome, which can be a rarity these days. In fact, part of me doesn't want to write this review so it doesn't get too busy for me to come back often. As previous commenters have noted, it's a really big space (no bumping into people left and right) but I will say that I wish there was more seating. There were three 2-person tables, and a bar top with a few stools. The rest of the large space is for moving around and looking at the art on the walls. I drink a lot of coffee. Admittedly, the stuff I brew at home isn't top-notch but since it gets the job done, I put up with it. But even with my caffeine tolerance, this coffee was STRONG- robust, really flavorful, and the barista really knew her stuff (and what's more, was totally willing to help this novice choose one). Usually I prefer milk and sugar in my coffee but here I drank it black, because there was actual flavor. While some complain about the price, I will say this: you get what you pay for here. I spend way more on a cup of Starbucks coffee, and this is far superior. read more

Wow! This place is absolutely beautiful and don't let the Brooklyn Atlantic Avenue address fool you - this gallery itself is a work of art - something you'd expect to see on Fifth Avenue! I was there as the staff was putting up the new show, Textural Abstractions, and the artwork just pops out from the walls. The colors are just stunning. The gallery attendant tells me this is also an event space so the setting is magnificent! I had a cold-brewed iced coffee which was absolutely delicious and my friend had the homemade fresh squeezed lemonade. What a great way to spend an afternoon and I'm glad they are in my neighborhood! Their ice coffee is delicious (not sure which brand), a little pricey per cup ($3), but i wouldn't mind paying for it again. Their hours are terrible if you need an early morning cup of joe - they open at 9am on weekdays, but are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Granted, this place mainly functions as an art gallery so it isn't a typical coffeeshop. 5 stars for coffee, 2 for the hours. read more

I was introduced to this place during the walking tour hosted by the Atlantic Avenue Wedding Extravaganza. This place was one of the featured vendors offering as a place for cocktail/reception venue. Upon walking in, it pretty much is a cafe. But if you walk further into the store, it's a whole different place with interesting and unique art exhibits on display. The space is pretty big but it probably can only hold at most 100 people. It's not exactly ideal for big weddings. One thing that turned me off about this place was they didn't have the A/C turned on and it was 90 degrees outside. Personally, I think if you want to advertise your business, you should present your venue in a welcoming and comfortable environment. I was literally getting impatient and wanted to leave right away. My wife and I came here Saturday to get out of the cold and have a coffee when a venue down the block said they would not be letting guests in until the event time. I'm glad that it happened because it turned us onto this place. I had an espresso and my wife had a hot chocolate - both of which were really good. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and the space is surprisingly large compared to what you see from the street. We will certainly go back when we are in the area, and you should too. read more

Once upon a time a young woman found herself in a hill called Boerum. 'Twas a lovely Spring Saturday but, alas, the young las had work to do on her laptop. Turned away from fair Baccus across the street, who had deceived her with its untrue vow of wi fi, our young las (that's me. Duh) stumbled in the hill until she found Clover. 'Twas a sight for sore eyes. Here she was welcomed by thee lovely and kind barista and served a warm and delicious coffee. Here she laid out her laptop in the quiet peace of ye classical music and yee ample outlets. Alone, she practically had the place to herself, to work and work to her heart's content amidst the breezy airs of the open doors and the sunshine streaming in. The End. I have to agree wtih Jenson P's post; this gallery does not treat it's artists well. I met with Clover to have her review my portfolio. Not only did she show up over half an hour late, but she seemed scattered and unfocused. She expressed interest in my work and claimed she really wanted me in one of her shows but when I followed up with her a week later, she never returned my phone calls or emails. Her assistant at the time finally said that she was looking for a gallery director and until then, she wouldn't be able to accept new artists. My friend applied for the gallery director position. Once again, Clover was over an hour late for her initial meeting with my friend. Furthermore, Clover told her that she wanted her to work FULL time and was not willing to pay for her and claimed she couldn't afford to do so. While my friend tried to negotiate some type of compensation, Clover repeatedly changed the terms of what she initially agreed with my friend. She justified her decisions to change my friend's potential job title by claiming that my friend didn't have enough exprience, even though Clover has no experience running an art gallery at all. While this is an impressive-looking venue, I would strongly discourage ANY artist from showing there or working with her. The lack of professionalism and shady practices of this place should make anyone think twice before doing business with Clover. read more

I used this venue to host my 40th birthday event. From beginning to end it was everything I envisioned and more. The owner Clover and her assistant Rosette were more than accommodating. They made sure all my wants and needs were met. The decor of the venue gave my event the most upscale and elegant vibe. The art work is awesome. The lighting was perfect, there was ample space for my 100 guest and everyone was comfortable. I was able to have a Dj, photo booth, and backdrop, which added the finishing touches so perfectly. Clover provided me with a red carpet to make an unforgettable entrance! From the time my guest walked in the door they were greeted by the most delicious, beautifully crafted, (unlimited)signature champagne cocktail with a touch of Rosemary grown by Clover herself. Guest also had the option of drinks from a selection of top shelf wines and beers. Her wait staff was awesome. They provided my guest with butler style service and catered to each and every individual. Everyone in attendance had nothing but good things to say about the event and the venue on a whole. I was so elated. My attendees are still commenting on how beautiful everything was and the service that was provided. I could not have asked for a more perfect venue space to set my event over the top! I rented out Clover's Fine Art Gallery for a tribute to my instructor, a legend who is known as The Father Of American Ninjutsu, and recognized internationally as a martial arts pioneer and an American icon. I attended a previous event at this gallery, and never forgot how warm and wonderful it was. It took approximately 5 months of planning and logistics before the actual event. The proprietor and staff made time to discuss my plans, and gave me an itemized list of what my expenses would be, They put me on a payment plan which made it easier than a lump sum payment. It was very reasonably priced. The staff always accommodated my pop-in visits; I just literally sit and walk around to visualize my event over the months of planning. I gave them my vision, and asked for suggestions whenever I needed a huddle. They gave me quite a few suggestions and partnered with me, always letting me know how my decisions would impact the price; they were flexible and accommodating. We added and subtracted food, changed seating logistics as my roster began to swell and they were very flexible with me during the planning process. This suited me well, and our relationship never had that "locked in can't change anything" feeling. The parking was ample, the location was great, the gallery is classy. The staff was small, but very effective, they waited on my guests and served them walking through the gallery, roving with trays of food, All of my guests including elected officials and other public speakers, really enjoyed themselves; they presented a proclamation to my instructor's family as a Brooklyn icon. The event was filmed for a documentary, so there were photographers, videographers and technical staff all over the place capturing the event. After the panel discussion with our special guests, the staff worked quickly folding the chairs and clearing the area for the mix and mingle portion afterwards. I had a cash bar set up, so my guests were able to mix, mingle purchase drinks, rove, eat, listen to the music etc. Everything went super smooth. The food was delicious and very nicely done, healthy and so nicely presented that the photographers even photographed the food. The beautiful piano in the upper end of the gallery was tuned well, we had a concert pianist and jazz band play while people ate and talked. People were walking around the gallery enjoying the art collection, photographers doing group shots, the music is playing, all just the way I envisioned it to be. The photographs really captured the elegance and warm charm, the rustic exposed brick and eye popping textured art made the photos explode with color. Everyone was having such a phenomenal time that we paid for an extra hour and it was done with a smile. The staff worked into the night, and all of my guests are still talking about the exquisite evening, and said they never knew such a beautiful place existed in the new downtown Brooklyn. It is truly a best kept secret. The social media was lit with wonderful scenes from the night, and my guests are STILL talking about their night. My reputation was on the line with this event, and the establishment and staff pulled it off for me with 5 stars. Based on the feedback, I am already planning a second event at the turn of the year at the gallery. I could never thank Clover's Fine Art Gallery enough for the hospitality and service to me and my guests, and I am looking forward to another great event. They returned my deposit, everything was clearly itemized, I understood what I was billed for, there were no hidden fees. My deposit for the piano was promptly returned as promised after the event. I'm not crazy about the decor of this place. Plus, it's a little too quiet. It feels museum-ish in that having a conversation here doesn't seem appropriate. BUT, the barista was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. I had 3 cups of coffee here, each a different selection from the Clover-made menu and thoroughly enjoyed each one. This is good coffee made well. I also tried one of their pizzas, which the barista heated up for me, and made for a nice pairing with my coffee. I'm not in the neighborhood often, but every time I am, I will make sure to stop by. I hope this place takes off! read more
