The light's in the store tend to be too bright and their sale's are not equal to what giant tiger or Dave's offer's for some food item's..

Ive been going to Daves for many many years, over 20 for sure. The last year or so Ive noticed a…read moredrop in the quality of the produce. Rotten centers in the sweet potatoes being a regular occurrence. Items I would normally buy there I had to shop elsewhere for as they werent fit to take home. They have expanded the ready made section and I often grabbed something for the drive home to snack on. I didnt care for everything I tried but would not return something simply because it wasnt to my liking. Last week I purchased some hot pepperoni for the drive home. Ive been eating pepperoni since I was a kid. I like hot. I do not like mild or honey garlic. I was disappointed as it turned out to be mild. I checked the label but it was marked hot. So this week when I went in I grabbed my items as well as a package of pepperoni around the same price. I brought my receipt and the pepperoni purchased earlier. I have never returned anything to Daves in my life and actually just wanted an exchange. After paying for my other items and waiting for a manager I was denied an exchange and told it wasnt their fault just because I did not find it hot enough. I have had to return things to Giant Tiger, Costco, Sobeys and superstore. I have always been treated well and never given a hassle. This is not the customer service I expected. I was embarrassed and made to feel like I didnt know what I was talking about and I was wasting busy peoples time. They have lost a customer in me and 3 family members as well.

A solid, reliable grocery store. I don't ask for much in my grocery store but this meets or exceeds…read moremost of my needs. The fruit and vegetable section is fairly large and selection is usually pretty good. Bakery and bread goods host far too many delicious temptations. Checkouts usually move quite quickly. The store is, for the most part, laid out in the order I expect. Some important tips: * It's always busy at this Superstore. Al. Ways. I don't know why but it is. * It's a grocery store. If you're looking for a wide variety of Joe Clothing or other stuff, head over to the gi-normous Portland Street location. * It's parking lot is always full. You should expect that you're not going to get a spot right next to the door. * It's got a wine shop but that's it in terms of liquor. * If you're taking transit, there's only one bus: the #62 which has an unusual schedule. Make sure you know it before you head over.

These things are annoying but what happened today was quite upsetting. The product I was purchasing was on sale, but the deal was you had to buy 2 to get the sale price. As it happened there was only 1 left. I would gladly have bought the 2 items to get the sale price but they didn't have 2. Is that really my fault? Should I have to pay the price for their inability to keep the shelves stocked. It may seem like a small thing to some but in these times of rampant inflation every penny of savings counts.

The Long Version: When my husband and I were in Halifax recently, we did 2 Markets back-to-back, this one and the Halifax Brewery Market and I personally liked the Halifax Brewery Market better, as it had more interesting foods and vendors and wasn't as crowded. My impression is that this Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market is more for tourists and the Halifax Brewery Market is more for locals, but I could be wrong. I got a Pancit Bihon for my husband and I to share at Pinoy's Best Halifax. It was $7 for a small serving. It tasted good and had this Liptons Chicken Soup smell that I loved, lol. Weird, I know. I just didn't like that they microwaved it in a plastic container. I would have preferred it if it was kept in metal warming trays and served into a cardboard container. My husband got a 4L jug of Maple syrup from Ripley's Maple ($58) for his sister. She was coming to Halifax too but not when the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market would be open so she asked him to get it for her. He gave it to her in Halifax and she was driving home, so we cannot attest to whether the jug would survive a flight in checked baggage, it would be at your own risk, lol. I'm glad we checked out this market. If we were in the area again on future visits to Halifax I would drop by, but I wouldn't specifically plan to go to it like we did this time. (179)
