They increase their prices weekly and take no regard for those who live on fixed incomes. I find it disturbing to see how Gateway Meat Market can accommodate its customers by keeping their prices the same and they are a smaller establishment. Here's Sobeys which has been around for decades and they don't care to accommodate their customers. They also cut back on their employees hours and they are amazing people. This is the only reason I still shop there cause everyone is so nice.

After 10:45 pm each night they close down their cashiers and use the self serve only. I think it shows great compassion for your customers who don't all want to do a self serve option. As well, you continue to have your self serve accept cash, whereas the Stupidstore accepts cards only. EXCEPT after 10:45 pm where you can use their self serve, but have to total off and then go to customer service to pay and they will release the purchase. STUPID Again thank you for thinking of your customers.

I am, however, re-evaluating my choice to pick this branch as my default place to buy food, and have found myself more and more using the larger, newer and better stocked Sobeys at the Larry Uteck exit off the 102. But back to this location, access can be a bit of a nightmare during rush hour since both HP rd and the Beford Hwy can get super backed up, and the surrounding intersections become hazardous to say the least when traffic peaks. The inside of the store seems new and bright, though the layout is a bit more confusing than other Sobeys. This could possibly be due to recent renovations, having to overlay a new layout over old infrastructure. Other than that, the staff are super friendly and seem to enjoy working there, which is always a good sign.

The seafood and butcher's area is always clean and well presented, and the meat is delicious. They also have an excellent "Hippy Section", as I've always called it, full of healthy foods and ethical household supplies. I can't think of anything majorly wrong with this location. Sometimes they dont have everything I need (Artichokes, why are you never here?) but they come pretty darn close. It can be a bit tricky to finds things sometimes, but if you've ever played a point-and-click game, you can usually deduce where everything is. No basil in the the herb section? Check with the tomatoes up front. Can't find the pancake batter? Check with the syrup, not with baking. It's either a fun brain teaser, or a deeply frustrating exercise, depending on your mood. Plus the cashiers are always hilarious, which is always a bonus!

I've recently switched from doing most of my grocery shopping at the Sobeys on Bedford highway, to…read moreusing this location at Larry Uteck.. Mostly because its more easily accessible by car (Bedford hwy intersection with HP rd can be a nightmare). There are also many more box stores in the immediate surroundings, so I get more done on a single trip when I come out. Its also super convenient if you work out at the Goodlife fitness around the corner. You can often see a lot of buff bodies roaming the aisles in the store at any given time. The layout is a little weird, but you get used to it. The refrigerators that line the back of the store take some getting used to.. I keep forgetting where to get the yogurt vs cottage cheese and other dairy products. The staff are super nice here, and the shelves seem to be better stocked, especially in produce, than many other grocery stores around. That brings me to my next point in that its usually much quieter than other Sobeys or Superstores. You're unlikely to find long lineups here on even the busiest days.

We decided to stop in on the way back to pick up bottled water and a couple other things for our hotel room. I stayed in the car while my husband did a quick run in and out. He reported that the store setup seemed weird to him and he spent a lot of time looking for the maple cookies. Cashier was friendly, he just thought the layout of the store was confusing. Hard to comment about the prices because of currency in Canadian and we are from US so everything seems so much cheaper. Posted sign says 2 - 24 pk water for $5. That would be $3.66 U.S. Dollar! Or $1.83 per 24 pls.

I have no idea how Atlantic compares in terms of treatment of employees, but as far as cleanliness and selection, I was impressed. Oh, and the fact that they carry a line of Ziggy products has absolutely nothing to do with that. No, not one bit. I have no idea how they compare price-wise to other chains in Canada; I can only compare prices to equivalents in the U.S., and they were pretty good. Then again, it's tough to find slab bologna and whole cooked lobsters at many chains in the U.S.

Actually I've been starting to think that Sobeys is doing much better with regards to their selection than their western competitors..especially in the organic/alternative department and with their gluten free products.. Since I live in the US, its still difficult for me to stomach the exorbitant prices of everything, but that aside I still think they do a great job and I love how well organized and clean everything seems to be.
