The Long Version: I went here with my mom to check out some items on sale in their flyers. My dad doesn't like going here because it's a bit farther from their home than other grocery stores. I don't mind driving, so while I was visiting I offered to take my mom to places my dad doesn't usually take her. The first thing I noticed is that it's not crowded like Walmart, The Real Canadian Superstore or Your Independent Grocer, which is where they usually go. That alone, I feel is worth driving a little farther for, lol. There were plenty of parking spots available, even on a weekend. The store is relatively new. It opened in July of 2023. Fun fact: it was the 99th FreshCo to open in Ontario. It's bright and clean. I like FreshCo for it's large selection of imported products. They had lots of British items imported from the UK. And lots of European items from places like Poland, Finland, Ukraine, and Switzerland. They have products from Asia too, including India, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Korea. Their house brand is called Compliments and is not bad. Their reward points system is Scene which admittedly I hate since you don't get points per dollar spent like other reward points systems but only points for certain items at certain times. Of note, they were sold out of the flyer items my mom wanted, but we still enjoyed poking around and we got other stuff there for a good price. (208)

This IGA - aside from being amazing in all the ways I described in my original review - seems to be setting the standard for how to properly operate under the current conditions so I wanted to share in the hopes of other grocery stores following their lead. When you arrive here, all the doors are closed except for one and when you enter that one there's a portable handwashing station like you'd see outside portopotties at a festival. So everyone is washing their hands as they enter. Then they are given a cart which has just been wiped down by the staff. Staff are also circulating wiping down the handles of fridge doors etc. Cashiers are using sanitizer between every customer and as you leave your cart is immediately wiped down again. This loving attention will save lives in our community and I really really appreciate it.

To this day it's her favourite salad dressing and we try to buy a case (of 12) twice a year! They have an excellent produce selection, seafood, cold cuts, and cool sauces and house brand Farm Boy brand + and excellent bakery! I've noticed they have boned up on prepared foods and have one of the biggest selection I have seen on K-cups for Keurig! I've never been to any other BJ's so I don't know if the absence of a food station is a standard. If you get caught with hunger pangs in the middle of your shopping, McDonald's (or Taco Bell) might be your only choice for a quick fix (or wish hard for free samples). Positives: It never gets crowded and they have their own gas station. And I can pay with cash, debit or even credit (which I can't in Costco or Sam's Club). Negative: No food service area; food items aren't updated (so be cautious about expiration dates!) and it can be very creepy inside because it can be very empty even on a weekend.
