CROOKS! My reply to their parting charges after my soon moved out, but roommate remained. who shared no one ever came to clean the "common area". To whom it may concern: Why are there line items that read: "Full Unit Cleaning" = $100 "Bedroom Cleaning" = $100 " Damage Charges Trash Out 2 bags" = $50 " Damage Charges Trash Out 1 bag = $25 "Moderate Cleaning to bathroom" = $50 If the "full unit cleaning" for $100, cleaned the "FULL UNIT" please explain this additional cost clearly and what the additional $114 would be for. It appears disingenuous, and possibly illegal to invoice in such a fashion. THEIR REPLY TO FOLLOW: "Thank you for your patience while I reviewed all the charges on your final statement with SoCam 290. Unfortunately, I am unable to reverse any of the charges, as they have been confirmed. After reviewing the Trash Out and Full-Unit Clean vs. Bedroom Cleaning charges, I found that all charges are correct. The "Full Unit" cleaning charge is referring to the common areas (living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc.), and the Bedroom cleaning charge is for the Bedroom only. The Trash out charges are stated twice because one is for the trash out of the full unit and the other is for the trash out in your bedroom. I almost never write reviews, but this situation is laughable. The management at this place is comedically awful. They can never seem to return a call or let you know if there's an issue with your leasing application. It's like speaking to a brick wall every time you pick up the phone. Every person you will speak with on the phone will either have no idea how to help you, tell you something different than the last person you spoke with (because you will have to call yourself instead of receiving any assistance), or just not return your call until AFTER the rent has gone up. It's gone up nearly $100 since I began my application. It's been a four week process so far trying to sign my lease - somehow no one I speak with has any clue how to help or work their system. I feel like if I submitted an image of an UNO card as my W2 form they would have accepted it considering NOTHING about this process makes any sense. Would not recommend applying here. Been living here for two years and have nothing bad to say about this place. The apartments are clean and maintenance is usually quick to reply to an issue. The staff is great and leave out candy and dog treats in the lobby. They also have resident events every month which are mainly giving out free food which is really nice! read more

Avoid this place at all costs! There are so many issues with this place that it is hard to start. The first issue I had to deal with is parking. There is a lot that is attached to the building that is managed by the city. What SoCam fails to mention is that it costs over $1200 just for the school year. Second issue is that the location is not as convenient as you may think. If you are a Rutgers student with classes at Busch, it will usually take you over 45 minutes to get there. The next issue is that they do not actually go by the roommate preferences that you submit. For example, I did not want to be placed with a smoker due to allergies and asthma. SoCam was so kind to pair me up with a smoker! When I brought up my potential health risk, the only option management gave me was to find another place to stay if I didn't like it! Most importantly, the management company does not have any regard for renters especially students. After the COVID-19 pandemic caused classes to be canceled, SoCam refused to terminate the contracts for students. They said in an email, "Greystar will not be terminating lease contracts early and rent schedules will remain the same. Being that we are not affiliated with the university residents/guarantors are still legally financially responsible". There are many other locations with management that actually cares about you unlike SoCam. Do not choose to live here! There are so many better locations with better pricing! read more

Told me they did not offer 12 month leases, had me sign a 9 month lease. Then at the end of 9 months I was told by another manager it's a 12 month lease that I signed. The fact is the 9 month leases are offered on some apartments and not others, which make me believe my lease was processed incorrectly when I was moved from one apartment to another apartment and the lease was processed incorrectly. Worst apartment complex ever. Unbelievably overpriced for such a crap apartment. Management lady is a extremely rude. Have to pay $75 to get back into your room if you get locked out after hours regardless if it's your first time or if the lady is just sitting there in the office. Washing Machine will ruin your clothes & half of the dryers don't work- so you're forced to spend more Money & time. Not only did I lose my security deposit over Nonsense fake charges- but I also OWED them more money for dumb fees such as damages to the public area, complete bs. The management group of this apartment is really greedy and lazy. The only thing they want is money. They try to use every possible reasons to charge your money. Even you didn't do that. On the another hand, they let a tenant owed 5k dollar and haven't do anything. Moreover, each manager(and they changed 4 managers) is bad. My friend who also lives in Rockoff told me that one manager gave a wrong key to my friend; so my friend couldn't go into his apartment. Never ever expect to have your deposit fully back!!! The apartment will charge you with every excuse after you move out even though you cleaned the place like exactly when you move in. Please read all the reviews before you decide to move in. I was living in a 1-bedroom, which was mostly covered with carpet except for the small kitchen area and the bathroom. Later on, after I moved out, I found out the apartment charged $100 from my deposit. When I reached out to the office, they said the $100 was charged for a "sticky floor". Then I indicated that my room was mostly covered with carpet. Then they changed their statement and said that they charged me not only for a sticky floor, but other things. And they were not able to provide any evidence on the sticky floor and the $100 that they claimed for the cost of labor. Apparently they are grabbing your deposit for no reason. Many tenants and students have this kind of experience. So I continue to fight with SoCam for the refund of my deposit. I have provided them with my bank statement for proof of payment. The statement from the person handling this, stated to me tonight that " we cannot refund what we cannot verify has been received" I have forwarded them copies of my direct payment and this is the reply I get. I also have asked for contact information that they will not supply and also asked for the president of the corporation that they will not supply. I am stuck dealing with this 4 months after the lease expired and 6 months after my daughter moved out. DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!!! read more

Ever since the building was bought out by a new company, the new management thats taken over has simply been the worst. Every time I've come to them with an issue or a question, they never give me a straight answer, or at worst, give me multiple different answers, some from the exact same people too. The previous management was bad enough, so only to have it get worse with these new people says a lot about their efficiency and how they think about tenants. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this place at all costs unless you want to deal with lots of headaches. read more

Great place to live! They have lots of free events and food and even treat their residents well when finals come around. Rooms are comfortable. Gym is usually empty if you're into that. There's also a 7/11 and pizza place literally right next to it and it's come in clutch so much. read more

There is a lady that works at the front desk that is extremely rude. She clearly had a bad day but to take it out on her residents is simply unprofessional. I had an incident with her for merely requesting to receive mail. She accused me of exhibiting attitude (which I've done nothing of the sort) and so to have an unbiased witness of our interaction I started to record our conversation since she seemed unstable and I wanted an unbiased record of this endeavor. After realizing that I started to record our conversation, she threw a hissy fit (probably due to the embarrassment realizing her unprofessionalism was being documented) and simply refused to do her job. The job that I help pay her salary for with my rent. Eventually a nice gentleman was able to help me with my request but she simply provided the worse service I have ever experienced, at one point she figuratively slammed the door in my face. I tried to address my grievances with upper management but it seems that the same people who work at the front desk are the same people who answer the phone, since they are purposefully ignoring my calls I called during their business hours but suddenly after the incident no one wants to my calls... I was essentially forced to right a public review of this endeavor since it seems the management of this place are purposefully avoiding me. My home is my sanctuary but now I feel more uneasy knowing I will have to occasionally pass by her on my way to my apartment. read more

Racist administration and management, do not allow the black people working there to fool you. This time I was the victim, an Egyptian male with an unambiguous Muslim name. Management blocked the delivery of a package of mine, multiple times, without having the guts to tell me. Instead, every time I asked for it, they told me nothing arrived. I only found out when I contacted the mail delivery service myself (UPS). All of this happened while I was spending a few nights at my friend's apartment there. Apparently if you look a certain way or come from a certain background, you can't have packages delivered. BEWARE. White people: this place is for you. read more

Very upset with the fact that my roommate and I were ripped off of our security deposit despite having cleaned the apartment till it was spotless (vacuumed, wiped down everything, emptied all compartments, threw out all of our trash etc). There were fees that were taken out like "carpet cleaning, door painting..." which seem to be like general charges they take out for everyone for maintenance after move-out. And a charge for damage in the living room? Really? I would really LOVE to know where because we did nothing but kept it tidy every single time we used the room and never even spent much time in there anyway. If there was a damage, I would've called maintenance up to address the issue so that it could be fixed. The apartment was disgusting when I moved in too...sticky dirt filled kitchen tiles (I scrubbed those tiles weekly all school year long and was never able to get the dirt out. It's like permanently stuck) and balls of hair and lint all over the carpet and mind you, several times I went to go brush my teeth or wash my hands in my bathroom, the water came shooting out brown. The only upside to living here was having a bathroom in my room and large windows that allowed a lot of sunlight in. read more

I just moved in and I really enjoy living here so far! The two double bedroom apartment I live in is spacious and the entire apartment came with all the basic furniture needed, which was a big help. The 24 hour gym is super convenient because it is right downstairs. The area is sometimes sketchy but as long as you're walking outside at night with a friend you should be fine. Also, parking passes for the car garage next door is super expensive. However, Rockoff apartments were much nicer than some of the houses I looked at beforehand. There is air conditioning in every room and I only have to share the bathroom with one person. Even though it is expensive, I think it'll be worth it! read more

Currently residing here for the school year, and while the apartments are nice, it is very expensive. My main issue with this apartment, and the reason for this one star review, is due to management's response for an incident that happened between my roommate & I, and our other roommates in the apartment. We brought management evidence that our roommates put our toothbrushes in the toilet, letting them know that this is the first time we ever caught them, so we feel unsafe and uncomfortable in our apartment since we have no idea what goes on. The response we got was that we could move out of our unit, even though we are the victims in the situation, leaving our roommates with an empty apartment, and ultimately what they want. This is a very big problem, and my roommate and I constantly feel like our belongings are not safe, yet they do nothing about it. We expressed these concerns to them, yet they never did anything about it. I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

DO NOT LIVE IN THIS BUILDING! My roommate I 100% regret living at Rockoff for this school year. I left a previous review but the building AND ESPECIALLY THE MANAGEMENT are just so horrible that I have to leave another review. Yesterday, our other two roommates who moved out came back to our apartment AND MANAGEMENT KEYED THEM IN. THE MANAGEMENT IN THIS BUILDING ALLOWED NON RESIDENTS TO ENTER OUR HOME. This is COMPLETELY unacceptable and unprofessional and unsafe. Had we not been home with the chain lock on, they were going to come into our apartment to take our router that we all split money for. Had we not been home, my roommate and I would have literally been robbed and not reimbursed for the things we bought, just because they nicely asked to be let into our home. Completely ridiculous. Everyone deserves to know about the horrible things that occur in this building. 0/10 staff. I also emailed management regarding this situation and we were ignored. Building deserves to go out of business and I hope it does, do NOT live here. read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE. THIS IS THE WORST PLACE TO LIVE. The leasing office is uncooperative, untrustworthy, rude, and disrespectful to the residents. They do not care about any problems or issues in the building as long as they get their money. Before I even moved in, I found out that the leasing office was discussing my confidential lease agreement with my roommates. They did not even care to apologize after I confronted them about revealing my private information. That same year, my roommate was letting her boyfriend live in the apartment. He slept and showered in the apartment every day. I complained to the leasing office over and over and they did not take any action to resolve the situation. Then my roommate brought pet turtles to the room and allowed them to live in a fish tank with a loud filter and bright light that kept me awake all night. Rockoff at the time had a no pet policy and when told about the turtles, they again did not take any initiative to have them removed. I decided to renew my lease for one more year hoping that I would get a better roommate. This was a huge mistake; I should have ran when I got the chance. Rockoff was offering a $500 gift card for residents who renewed their lease before a certain date. When I renewed my lease before the deadline, they refused to give me the $500 gift card. Unfortunately, my problems at Rockoff did not end after that. My new roommate ended up being a thief and stole my property. She also chose not to shower, which made the room smell horrible no matter how many febreze plug-ins I used. Rockoff told me that there was nothing they could do about my roommate stealing. What a surprise!! Of course they couldn't do anything, more like they didn't care because they were still going to get their money. Since I couldn't get out of the lease, I complained about the issue to the point where they allowed me to switch rooms. Unfortunately, the leasing office staff are sneaky and untrustworthy, as they failed to inform me that my new roommate has night terrors and screams and moans all night long in her sleep. I went back down to the leasing office to complain and they informed me that they were aware of the circumstance before they moved me to that room, but they are not going to move me again. Again, they are still going to get their money so why should they care right? Now I'm currently waiting for the day my lease expires so I can get out of this hell. DO NOT LIVE HERE. SAVE YOURSELF AND GET AWAY WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE. There are many other horrible qualities about Rockoff. You pay to have the apartment professionally cleaned, but they are still filthy. The washers in the laundry room often leak onto the floor and the dryers burn your clothes. The internet is unreliable and at times does not work for days. The TV provider is extremely limited and some of the channels you are supposed to get do not work. The building offers unlimited free printing, but the computers and printers are out of order every other week. The only good thing about this place is that 7-Eleven and Douglass Pizza and Grill are right downstairs and have really good food and friendly owners and employees. read more
