I came here to help my family apply for medicare. Very quiet and clean office. The wait time is mostly no more than 20 minutes for me. Usually the security at the lobby will ask and guide you. Appointments are available depending on what you are there for. I came at my appointment time, and got called right away. The gentleman who helped us with the medicare was very patience because we had so many questions and he explained it to us throughly. We got everything completed within 30 minutes. I stopped by this location for the first time to help out a family member. I didn't know it's located in this plaza since it's inside/toward the back. I came before they were open and there is already a line. We have an appointment and make sure you indicate this when you sign in/if the officer asks. They opened right on time. One female officer came out to greet us and gave us the run down on how to do everything. She was strict. It does help with processing and being orderly. I've been to other locations before and it was a hot mess. This location is clean and all the employees I encountered that day conducted themselves professionally. I was impressed they care enough to put in effort, which is refreshing. Although parking spaces available in the parking lot, the officer said it's not for SSA and to park on the street. Inept is the highest compliment I can give this office. We have been dealing with trying to restore a family member's Medicare part B for 8 months. They have consistently given bad information, have not followed through with what they said they'd do, and don't keep detailed records of what they claim they will follow through with. I strongly recommend going to another location, and even more strongly recommend filing a complaint with the senator's office at the first sign of difficulty. She was snapping at me the whole time and obviously did not want to give me an appointment, rudely interrogating me, literally an "interrogation!" and then hung up on me after I got angry, saying I was yelling at her. Social Security ministration office in Alhambra moved from Garfield Avenue to a brand new building located at 555 West Main St. You cannot view the building from the street as it is in the back. Try to find street parking because parking is limited. The office is very nice. When you enter the door, there is a kiosk on the right hand side, answer the questions on the kiosk and then it will give you a number on a piece of paper . Needed to get my name changed and wasn't sure how long the wait was going to be so I showed up 20 minutes before they opened at 9am. There was no line so I went back to sit in my car for another 10 min. When I headed toward the entrance there was three people in line. Once they open you check in via a virtual kiosk and then you sit and wait for your number to be called. I was called within five mins. I had all of my paperwork and supporting documentations ready to go and experienced friendly service. I was done by 9:10, which pleasantly exceeded my expectations. read more

I lost my social security card a while back and didn't realize it until I needed to use it. I don't know where I placed it cause I never really need it. So I walked in on a Monday morning at 10am. I kind of had imagined that this place would be much like all the commotion of having to go to the DMV. It was not that way at all! There was plenty of parking. I walked in and the friendly security guard let me know to sign in at the kiosk. It took about 2 minutes. Then I got my number and took a seat. It was very quiet and there were only about 5 couples ahead of me. Very nice, calm experience for what it was. I was in and out within about 30 minutes and got to move on with the rest of my Monday. No stressful vibes. Friendly staff. Quick service. Hopefully I don't lose my card and have to come here again though cause I probably shouldn't be losing it. Life tip: Make sure you keep your social security card IN YOUR WALLET so that you have it handy in case it is ever needed. That's probably why it's wallet-sized. read more

Normally when you think of government facilities, you'd probably expect something like a snail's operating pace with slow lines, cumbersome protocols and disarray, as well as a good chunk taken out of your day. I remember this place being like that last time I was here with my dad, and their only attempt at facilitating the process was having your picture ID out, which most likely only takes 10 seconds, at most. There was a good 2 people in front of me last time I was here. Super early, like over half an hour early 'cause my dad has a thing about bypassing long lines. Even so, it took solid half an hour before I got out of there, and it took some time sitting in a dimly lit room. They've certainly changed a few things around here, and for the better. As a place that specializes in social security, you'd think they'd be able to do the job efficiently, which ideally saves time for both parties. Well, it turns out they actually do. Before they open, they go through the initial protocols, phones on silent/vibrate, IDs out and you're given a piece of paper to fill out, and at this point I feel like I'm gonna be here for the next hour. The line is then split after 10 people, so I was at the end of the first line, and then they call out a list of people's names (appointments, I'm guessing), who are asked to form a line in the middle, then proceed to go inside. After a short wait, they let the people in my line in one buy one with someone at the door to give you a ticket number, then show you to the waiting room down the right side of the entrance, which reminded me a bit of the DMV, just nearly empty instead of the opposite. The worker that will be working with you will call the number, then lead you back to the lobby and through a door to the left of the entrance with a security lock. The room has about a dozen cubicles. After taking a seat, the lady did her typing, and after a couple minutes, she goes off and comes back with a piece of paper, a receipt, and asks me to double check the information. After confirming the information, she tells me that we're done and that the card will be on its way in about 2 weeks. I was like, wait, that's it? Last time I remember having to come back with my birth certificate and being interrogated about my personal information and this and that. After all's been said and done, I was out the door by 9:15. Pretty damn impressive. It was painless and simple. They also walk with you to the lobby, after which I presume they call for the next person in line. Pretty lucky to have this place just down the block, and with some parking around the back end. read more

I went in to get a new Social Security card and change my name on October 3rd. It is now October 31st and I still have not heard back about it, even though the receipt they gave me states that if I don't get a card in 2 weeks to contact the office. I emailed and called to try and figure out if my paperwork was processed. I recommend to not try calling in for an appointment or to talk to a live person. After 15 minutes trying to get past the automated teller, I was supposedly connected to a live person. The phone rang for another 30 minutes and no one picked up. At this point the office was closing soon, so I'm assuming they let the phone ring until closing to avoid answering my questions. read more

My child is eligiable for SSI. Due to his condition of living changes, I went to this Office for him to turn in some written documents as the notification for reconsidering of the SSI benefits each month. I was in the Office on February 26, 2019 after 2:00p.m. and waited in-line for 15 minutes. I got to window #5 and spoke to a Social Worker. I handed the documents to her and she pulled out my child's information on the computure system, then started to ask me about my child's share of living cost information. I made sure that she changed my child's education status. The SSI document reflected incorrectly. She was no different from other Social Workers at that Office. Why? Because she also kept on giving me unreasonable statements as it was not necessary to make changes on the original issued Report from SSI. After almost 2 months waiting to hear back from the SSI, I received no contact at all. I called this Office today on 04/23/2019 at 3:00p.m. and found out that this Office had never filed any of the documents that I submitted personally on February 26, 2019. Really? Really! The Social Worker who answered my phone called and clearly stated to me that there were no new information input onto my child's case at all since the last met in January, 2019. When I indicated my serious unsatisfication toward this Office's services, she agreed to check and would call me back for the status of my submission. On 04/24/2019, she called at noon time and informed me that since my child's case considered as no change, therefore, this Office no need to contact me. In another word, it just gone silent! Unbelievable! In her statements, she indicated that she still had not seen any documents from my child's submission. Where and what happened to my child's documents? I strongly urge you, the smart citizens, think about my situation and value your own circumstance if this Office had lost your important documents like my child's case, what would you do? Do these Social Services employees have the right to treat the U.S. citizens as the way they have been doing? I decided to file complains immediately. read more

I checked myself in at the kiosk and my number was called less than 10 minutes later. My to-do list was simple. I lost my social security card and needed a replacement. I like how this location is really close by my home so I don't have to drive too far. The staffs are really helpful - usually in the mornings when they barely just started their day. However, if you come when they are about to close or after lunch, they may be a bit grumpy because they've helped so many other people that they just wanted to end their day. Just an assumption. The security guard probably uses the same script everyday because every time when I need to come here, he will always say "please turn off your cell phone" in Chinese- Mandarin to everyone in line. I assume there's a lot of Asians that speaks Mandarin that goes there. There's also a way to line up to get in, like we are little kids that don't know how to stand in a straight line or something. A bit annoying. Other than that, all the staffs are really helpful and efficient. Parking lot is very tiny, you will probably need to park on the streets but make sure it's not street sweeping day! read more
