Needed to apply for Medicare Part B... so called to make an appointment. The gentleman I spoke to was hilarious, and very helpful. He recommended I just use the drop box at the SSA location, rather than trying to get a face to face. The waiting area was very crowded... lots of people. So that is what I did... easy to find, and per my medicare specialist.. usually only takes a few days to get in the system (he says online submissions might take up to two weeks). I got done with my 11:10 appointment at 11:07. Yeah, they actually got me in early! Coming from the nightmare of Michigan social security admins where you wait an hour even if you have an appointment, this was great. I have tried for over a week to get my claim to start on 3-1-2026, but the system will not allow me to start a claim online. It tells me to contact my local office. The office in Eugene Oregon does not answer their phone and they will not see you if you have not made an appointment by phone. I have tried 3 times and told there is a 120 min wait time; I opted for the call me back option. No call back either call from last week and no call back today at over 200 min wait time; that's 80 mins over their posted time. One literally has to visit their local Congress person and complain to get any action. Even with a shut own, the system should allow one to apply online, and they should adjust their phone message to say they cannot take calls right now. I have even sent emails all 3 days; and those are days when the government was open. Their website even shows that they are open right this very moment It seems that they just don't care to give any good customer service in any form. Think it's time to start thinning out he SSA staff to those who want to do their jobs and provide good accurate and timely customer service. So, for now, I give one out of any starts ... Great service friendly staff and very informative. They do walk ins in Eugene OR but not Albany OR.

Their agents are condescending and sometimes straight up abusive. This place needs someone to clean house. I've heard their agents yell at other people. I've had them act needlessly callous seemingly as their baseline. If nothing, their cruelty makes the office highly inefficient. This review is based of a walk in visit, I tried calling multiple times to schedule an appointment but wait times were always at least an hour or two long. I got there ten minutes before they opened and there were about 20 people in line. Once you're let in there's two options for checking in, you can either wait in the line to use one and only kiosk and get a paper ticket or you can scan the QR code for virtual check in that's in the entry way on the right hand side (I recommend the QR code). Even with coming before opening I was waiting for a little over 90 minutes. Wait times may vary depending on the reason someone is there for. It seemed like there were only two windows open for walk ins and they had about two or three other open for appointments. The gentleman who helped me was really nice and got me through the process in about five minutes. read more

I was fortunate enough to reach customer service agent Mr. Valle by phone today to discuss an application I submitted. He walked me through the process and reached out to the person to whom my application was assigned to prompt them to approve and input it. Superior customer service! Considering what has been reported in the news, I was expecting a much more difficult interaction. I am wholly grateful that I lucked out with Mr. Valle! read more

We checked online to see if Social Security office would be open on December 24. It indicated that it would be. When we arrived at 1 PM the office was closed. No notice indicating they would be closed this day. Very annoying. read more

When I called to speak with someone about a document I had requested three months ago but had not received, I was put on hold for ~15 minutes only to be told by the phone system that the office had numerous callers waiting for service. I was then hung up on! read more

So I had an issue that I didn't understand and that the people on the phone didn't understand. Anyways there is a repersentive Jamie who is proud that she is unprofessional on the phone. I scheduled an appointment over the phone to be called today and speak wit a case manager. But yesterday I didn't mind waiting in line to speak to someone. So waited two hours with my number. The lady calls me over and then gets very aggressive with me and says she is not helping me today. when asked she said that everyone in this office told me that I will get help tomorrow. I asked for a manager. A man with was tall white and had red hair came out and started yelling at me. He repeated himself he was not going to help me today. he was so unprofessional and the fact of the matter is I wasn't doing anything but sitting. These reps are smart not to give out their names for any reason. They don't want to take a complaint of the unprofessionalism they conducted. Then the manger said I don't have the resources for you today. I get that they are under staffed. but come on could have canceled the appointment and helped me. It would have taken oh let's see maybe 5 minutes vs the 15 minutes of them yelling at me. manager treathened to call security on me because I said I am not moving till I get help. he then rolls the curtain down aggressively and threatens me.
