Got here at 12:18pm and out by 12:45pm. I was quite surprised. There were 4 windows open and about 10 other people waiting.

Kind and courteous people. The wait is long. I would either go early, before doors open or just before closing.

We used to hang around Serramonte Center; glad they are still around. Do you remember O'Farrell's? Toons? Or am I giving away my age, lol. Then there was Westlake Shopping Center, or is that NOT part of DC...? Kukje - One of the first and larger Korean Supermarkets in the area. Now we also have H Mart and the newly opened Jagalchi. Century 20 DC. Auto mall!! I used to ride my motorcycle on 35, but the weather is almost always freezing. Used to use their DMV as the SF one was crazy, just crazy... And of course, all the restaurants. Oh, and got a ticket on my VERY first date with my wife here.... What memories, lol. Low crime on our street. I miss it, the house and the city. Our home was on the border of SF and Daly City. The street to the right of Lowell (that was the fork) was San Francisco. I think that the lowest street just off of Lowell, near Mission, was already San Francisco. The schools on that street are also in San Francisco. I attended George Washington Elementary School (kindergarten to fifth grade), which was two blocks away. It's a steep walk either way, but it was walking distance. My younger sister also attended the same school. It's cold and foggy. But on a clear day, the views of the city and San Francisco were breath-taking. I'd forgotten how cold the house can be, until we stayed with my cousin and his wife. It feels damp. I do not miss the Street Cleaning though! The parks in nearby neighborhoods: Lincoln Park- Brunswick and Templeton, Frankfort Park (398 Frankfort). Other parks in the city: Gellert Park- 50 Wembley Dr., Hillside Park- 222 Lausanne Ave.- Palisades Park- 101 Palisades Dr.- Marchbank Park- 10 S. Parkview Ave.- Mussel Rock Park- Skyline and Westline. Most of the homes are stuck together, many of them are two-story homes. Parking has gotten much tighter since our last visit (2011). Just recently visited for a death in the family (Nov 2023). I wanted to see my old house, on Edgemar Street, some of the other streets, like Frankfort, a block over, one home was a mini farm (that is long gone though), and a couple of the neighborhood stores (sadly the little one that was Chinese owned is boarded up), but it looked like Lowell Market was still open. (***Behind some homes, across the street, from m y old house, used to be a drive-in movie theater and a horse stable, but this was years ago!***) It looks like there are renovations under way on some homes. I noticed some newer properties. I also noticed that some were in better condition than others (as evidenced by the exterior paint). I also noticed the new feature at Lincoln Park. We passed by Jefferson High School, noticed a Jollibee, saw the Jack-In-The-Box (that's old), and saw the Bread Basket (a Filipino bakery, I liked their pandesal and pandeleche, so masarap!). We ate at Ling Nam Starbread on King. Yummy, check out my review in detail. We also passed by Serramonte Mall. I noticed many new stores in place of the old ones (Mervyn's, Montgomery Ward, Sears- these don't exist anymore, maybe just online). A high school boyfriend called it "Serramanila." This was my favorite mall, growing up. Also saw the Boston Market nearby (none in Vegas anymore, unless you have military base access at Nellis AFB). We also passed by on Mission, where the street is split, to allow store access (I saw that the last time we were here). "Top of the Hill" looks a little different, because one corner is now filled with a building. I remember a food truck being there and people were buying food. There is still a small car dealership on the opposite corner, though. We also visited Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a small church, on Wellington Ave. (check out my review). We got gas near Westlake, and it is really developed now. I don't remember all of the apartment buildings nearby. We used to go shopping with coupons at Walgreens, every week. On the racial and ethnic diversity: our street was mixed, but as a whole, there were a lot of people like me and us, lots of Pinoys. My mom came to the US, with friends, no family, in 1970, but she had an apartment in San Francisco. And slowly, over the years, she helped some of our relatives come over too. I really miss the city and I miss my family too (I have family on both sides on both sides of the SF Bay Area). There is an old song about Daly City that I found a long time ago, online. But I think it was kind of making fun of the boxy homes. Daly City borders San Francisco, Colma, and Pacifica. It's a pretty big area.

This review is for the swim class at Giammona Pool:…read more SCAM SCAM SCAM This swimming pool has a very scammy predatory business practice. My child already graduated from La Petite Baleen at level 5. She swam there for at least 6 years and already knew all the basics. My wife was looking for something for her to do to help her maintain her skills. She was researching online and found this place that was ran by Daly City Recreational Center and wanted to give them a try. The first time she took our daughter there they did a quick assessment and said she belonged to Level 1. My wife reasoned with them and they ended up putting her in Level 2 (Jellyfish). We paid for 4 classes and they told us at the end of the 4th class they will evaluate her again. I was there with her the first 3 classes and all I saw was them putting my daughter on the side of the pool and had her kick her legs and swing her arms in the water while holding the side of the pool. Today was the 4th class. Before she began today's class I asked the guy at the reception counter about the rating. He told me he already got the eval result and that my daughter has failed. So all together they already gave her a failing grade from just 3 previous classes, even before her 4th and final class has started. I told him she already graduated from La Petite at Level 5. How did she fail when all she really did most of the time was kick her legs at the side of the pool. He gave me a non-answer about list of stuff she need to do and the teacher said she failed. My wife was angry. At the end of the today's class (the 4th class) my wife asked the teacher how come my daughter failed. The reason the teacher gave us was another non-answer like "her legs were too low". Even though she never told my daughter to kick her legs higher during class at all. There were zero instructions given. Secondly, when the teacher had her swam out in the open pool, she had my daughter laid on her back and kick her legs in the water while the teacher walked backward holding my daughter armpit. The teacher basically kept holding her back and didn't let my daughter swam freely and let her perform. But when my wife asked why did she hold my daughter's back the teacher lied and said my daughter told her to hold her. My daughter said she never told her to do that and that the teacher only kept repeating simple instructions like "swim in a circle". The whole class was only 25 minutes and there were 5 students in class. The teacher pretty much carried each student in circles and called it swimming. Each student had only around 5 minutes of "swim time" per class. While the rest of the 20 minutes she just swing her arms and kicked her legs at the side of the pool. A complete waste of time and money. My feeling is that they don't want to move students up too fast and they want to milk as much tuition fee from the parents as possible. Honestly, from what I could see, most parents just put their kids here so they have something to do. Many parents just day dream or scroll on the phone instead of paying attention to what they are teaching their kids. At about $10 per class it is cheap, I'll give you that. But you really do get what you paid for. And with the quality of "education" they give your child, it's totally not worth it. I am not sure where all the positive reviews came from. I am pretty sure they are either from people who works there or from parents who just like the big pool. I read through all the 1 star reviews on Yelp and Google review and they are inline of what we've experienced. This is not a swim class, it's more of a children day care with water.

They know how to get children involved in activities so that parents do not lose their minds, seriously though! They really know how to create activities that allow children to get involved at an early age. This was probably one the best parts about growing up in Daly City. The Park & Recreation team have always be instrumental in schools and have contributed to a lot of great opportunities. If you are looking to do something fun during the summer this is a great place to go to. They use to offer catalogs for sign up but because I no longer live in Daly City I am not sure. But, there is an endless amount of activities to choose from. The other cool thing is that they offer classes for adults in a multitude of areas as well. Just a great job of reaching out to the community.

I had a permit card that was signed off waiting for me at the building dept, so to save time and gas I asked if they could just scan it for me and email it to me. Nothing needed to be signed. The permit wasn't printed on any type of special paper. They called it was signed off and I asked "would you be able to scan it and email it to me?" And instead of saying no, the inspector said call the front desk and see if they can scan it. So I call the front and the guy in the front says I need approval from the inspector to scan it and email it over. So clearly there's no rule or anything. It's just pure laziness. They refuse to scan the permit and email it to me. I don't live in Daly City and I already was here earlier today. 98% of the building departments now do everything on line. Down to the permit card being issued online! Most building departments that do review just email it to you. So they're just being unreasonable. I go to pick it up and I walk in and the guy I spoke to on the phone is chatting away with some other employee. Not paying attention to their customers. I say "can I get my permit?" And this guy has the nerve to roll his eyes and walk away. Well EXCUSE ME! Sorry only asking you to do your job! That guy walked away and someone else gave me the permit card. Now was that so hard??? These people clearly don't care about gas emissions so here I am in the parking lot of the building department writing this. Do better guys!
