If you're patient and diligent enough to wait to speak with an SSA representative by phone, you'll learn how to obtain the info you're seeking and if the rep doesn't know or has no way of predicting the unknown, they'll be honest and tell you so. Be respectful and grateful for their assistance. Cutbacks haven't made their jobs any easier. read more

If ever you find your self in need to handle business with the Social Security Administration, I advise you to just go into the office. The phone calls are a waste of time. Arrive EARLY, you will wait in line to get into line but if you arrive early you can get out earlier then you would think. You can finish up within 3 hours. It is kind of like the DMV, you can set appointments, you can walk in, you will wait. read more

While the location and parking are great. The office has 11 windows and for the 2 hours I have waited so far. Only 2 are open. Where are all the other employees? Why have 11 windows and only open 2? Waiting room is full of people. So slow!!!! Seems like a waste of government dollars to build out a space and not utilize it. Typical government mentality. Came here to get copy of ssn waited 30 minutes and was told by customer service desk no 4 I need to make an appointment. I was given a number 800 number which is Daly City Office during my visit to make an appointment or wait again for over 2 hours to get an appointment from the same lady. I was calling the 800 and waited at the same time for an appointment I waited an 1 hour and 45 minutes for either the lady behind window 4, and 800 number. Suddenly the phone says "sorry call back click" It's now over 2 hours no one help. I walked away without getting an appointment and very frustrated and angry. This not normal business behavior to wait over two hours for someone in this office and the on the phone getting an appointment to come back. This is not acceptable. read more

Tried calling the phone number to make an appointment and the recorded menu was terrible. It kept going in a loop and I had to hang up and call back a few times, finally took me to the right place, but the estimated wait time was an hour! Decided to walk in without an appointment. I went at 3pm on a Thursday. Got a number and waited about 15 minutes until my number was called. When I went to the window, the staff told me I had to make an appointment and gave me the option of calling the number or waiting until my number was called again. She told me the estimated wait time was 2 hours, and I asked how many people were in front of me and she told me 6, and I asked why would it take two hours to make 6 appointments and she told me they were understaff. I decided to wait and good thing it only took about 20 minutes. My appointment was made for the following week. On the day of my appointment, I was in and out in less than half an hour. I would give more stars if it wasn't for the bad experience of getting an appointment. read more

Even when you get a hearing your judge will be paid off. If they owe you a giant amount of back pay you won't be seeing it. They probably sent it to Ukraine already. What gets me is that these judges are signing off on your life without even an ounce of medical history behind them, they just need x amount of law years no medical shit whatsoever. Yet they can deny what actual medical experts have said and written off on? The whole system is screwed. Vocational experts lie and don't even get charged with lying on the stand. They switch your title on paperwork and then try to get away with it. Just so they could keep my hard earned money. Fucking over American citizens is their true jobs. read more

You have to wait for hours to get help. If you call the Social Security phone number, you are on hold for hours. They need a better system of helping people by phone or in person. A not very good run government agency. You can't put no stars but would say no stars read more

Don't know when did people who gave good review went to the office. I went two times , one in the morning around 10am which had 20 people ahead of my #, I stayed there for two hours and only 4 numbers were called , it's ridiculous ! And only 2 windows open, and once they finished one visitor the rep took 20 mins to call the next one, wonder why ??? The second time I went 30 mins before they closed which some google reviewer suggested, it was packed , at least 30 people in there! How do you review the Federal Government? You wait on line to get a number, wait 30+ minutes to get called for check-in, then wait another couple hours to actually discuss your case with someone. Sounds pretty miserable but in all fairness my specific issues were handled professionally and with surprising compassion. The key is you need to balance persistence with politeness. Also compared to the national SSA number where you are placed on hold for 1-2 hours, the local office will pick up with a few minutes. SF is technically my local office but I'm not crazy about the neighborhood and lack of street parking. I can drive to Daly City quicker and they have a parking lot. read more

I highly recommend this office vs. the ones in San Francisco. Easy parking, went without an appointment and had a somewhat complex situation but was in and out in less than 30 minutes. The person I met with was pleasant and very helpful. When I asked if I filled out the forms properly he said, "perfect", scanned them into the system, wished me a nice day, and I was on my way. read more

if you ever find yourself needing to go to social security admin office in person, you must go to the daily city SS admin office. Yes, I did have to wait about 2 hours but that was what was expected as they had posted wait time in the front. It was actually not too bad even though I waited a few hours. What a nightmare. I tried 2 times at this office and failed to get a name change both times. I waited 2.5 hrs for my number to be called and DESPITE having checked in, and ran home to get original docs at their request, they then told me I never checked in and my number had been called (it was not. I was there for 2.5 hrs. They called the number ahead of mine and the number behind mine, never called my number tho) They then told me to get a new number and go thru the waiting process again. We are entitled to Social Security benefits and the like because we've worked hard and paid into the system. However, there are some employees who work for the SS Admin.'s Daly City Gellert office who believe they're entitled to be rude and nasty to the public who employ them. Case in point is the young woman who took it upon herself to be quite arrogant and nasty. I had actually called their main number whereby that agent said I needed to check with my local SS Admin. office to see why my application was wrongfully delayed (according to the SSA's agents it's the local SSA office personnel who push through and process our applications). That's the reason for my visit & apparently this clerk decided that my query was wasting her time. Hence the flip and rude answer I received. It is my application so I have a right to know what their delay was. And it was their fault for delaying it. Even the call center agreed I should pursue the status as it has been more than 60 days. This is one reason why the SS Admin. gets a bad reputation because of employees like this person. if she hates her job and dealing with any and all members of the public in general then quit! read more

I filled out my name change application online and printed it for my visit. I didn't have an appointment. There was plenty of parking at the time I arrived. Social Security is on the second floor of the building. There was already a line at 8:45 for checking in even though the office opens at 9:00am (there were ~18 people before me in line). At 9:09, the line for checking in at the kiosk to get your ticket number was very short, 3-5 people, so the check-in line moved really fast. There was a really nice security guy having conversation with folks waiting. When it opens you wait in line for customer check in kiosk. It will print out a ticket with your number. You wait for them to call your number at the check-in window (number is also shown on the screen). The people at the check-in windows will triage your question, and depending on how they need to take care of it it seemed most people had to sit back down and then wait for their name to be called a second time to go to a different window. Luckily the check in guy (who is also really nice) can process name change applications so they called my number by 9:30 and was out by 9:33! Woot got out a half hour after the office opened. Tips: *go at 8:45 am before office opens. *office is on second floor *if there's an application available on the website, print and bring it to shorten wait times read more

I went here around 10AM with my parents to deal with some Medicare stuff and we waited 2-3 hours to talk with them for 15 minutes. This place is way cleaner than the one in SF downtown and there's a parking lot but it's definitely smaller with less staff and seating. The security guard at the front was pretty chill and kind. He didn't yell at us to shut up every 30 minutes, he just wanted us to sit down, until there were no seats left to sit. I also noticed he helped push for an extra staff member to speak with two old ladies after they waited for over 3 hours. Extra star for him. Lol. And the staff at the windows were ok. Normal. I don't expect much from them. Bring some good reading material, your crochet project, or your smartphone with good data plan if you're gonna be here on a weekday late morning. read more

Located in a shopping center with loads of free parking. Building is clean( not government clean, but retail clean) Security guard on the 2nd floor greets everyone and reminds them to use the check-in box. My number was called in 5 minutes. This person screens your visit to refer you to the correct advisor. I told her I wanted to change my direct deposit account. She said, that's easy, Iet me do that for you!!!! From start to finish I was out of here in less than 15 minutes. Note: the waiting area was clean and did not smell like a jail holding cell. I did not get any "free money" yet, but I had a very positive experience at the office today. I have never been one to accept a handout. It bothers me that I have to even go this route. The office moved orderly. No cell phones, food or craziness allowed. The security guard makes sure of that. There is a computerized number in line system. I have been working since I was 14 years old. I like working. It is unfortunate I have had all of these health related problems. I had to resign from my last library position in July 2007 because of stress and lack of advancement. I have to be my own boss. I hate being told what to do. They have a great selection of material on the services this goverment agency handles. I am trying to get "disability insurance" I had to write my entire medical history out and sign releases for my medical records. No problem... OK it is not "Free Money" In the United States of America, "Social Security Disability Insurance" (SSDI) is a payroll tax-funded, federal insurance program. It is designed to provide income to people unable to work because of a disability until their condition improves and guarantees income if their condition does not improve. It is not a handout or Welfare, but is a social insurance program. SSDI is also frequently referred to as "DIB" (Disability Insurance Benefits), and "Title II" or "Title 2" benefits (named for the chapter title of the governing section of Social Security Act). If I get it...I get it.... no biggie. Kind of glad there is a service like this around. read more

Citizenship status change, took 1 hour and 10 minutes. Not too bad. Parking is a HUGE plus. Plus 1 star just for that. Go the stairs, turn right, get a number with the machine, take a seat. Only brought ID and passport. Took 5 minutes at the booth. Interviewer only asked if the information was correct. Security guard was strict but never rude, not as bad as other government places. I came in without an appointment to change my name and the staff was very accommodating, calm, and fast. Ok so went based on a few of the good reviews. Here is the real deal. 1) parking by 9am is packed so expect to try and find street parking 2) I arrived 10 minutes after 9 without an appointment on a Thursday and there were already 20 people ahead of me! That equals to 2 hours of waiting plus! 3) the security guard is a complete & utter ass. Takes his job way to serious for a tiny office full of mostly senior citizens who can barely walk let alone cause problems. 4) you can't make appointments online & when you call to make one expect a 45-50 minute wait time. It would be great if you can just change your name online & verify with a scanned copy of your marriage certificate. It's insane to have to come down here wait hours for something that takes 5 minutes to handle because I already filled out the paperwork! Went there with my cousins to correct the spelling of their names on the card. Security Guard was rude and condescending. It's a shame to see that when most of the people he was giving attitude to were senior citizens. Went to two different clerks. The first clerk said we needed to go to immigration to correct the spelling of their names on the card. The second was super helpful and courteous. She actually helped us and made a request to the immigration so that they could correct the issue. She made up for the guard and first clerk. read more
