Yelp wants to know if I would recommend the social security office... I'm not really sure if anyone would really RECOMMEND it, but it's kind of a necessary chore sometimes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My visit was a one of those necessary chores. We were having an issue with putting our son on our taxes, and thankfully we finally got it sent in because I made an appointment on February 22nd, but the soonest appointment was APRIL 20TH! Two months later, and 5 days after the tax cutoff day. Even though we got our taxes done, I still needed to fix the problem. I was dreading the appointment because I didn't want to spend half the day waiting to speak to someone... but thankfully my mom is a gem who was willing to babysit so at least I didn't have to bring an unwilling toddler with me. Others weren't so fortunate. There were several children who were not happy to be there, but their mom's were champs and over all, it was pretty tame in there. My appointment was at 10 AM. There weren't very many people in the waiting area when I got there even though the parking lot was mostly full and there were a few people standing outside in a line. It turns out they were just signing in with the posted QR codes. I scanned the QR code, went inside, and checked in on my phone. Then I needed to scan my phone at a kiosk to get a receipt with a code. I sat down and was relieved that there were maybe 15 people total waiting. After 5ish minutes a lady asked if anyone had an appointment. Me and one other man raised our hands. She sent us both to a window and I was extremely happy that I was going to be in and out in a jif... so I thought. I told the lady what was going on with my son's social and what I needed to do and she literally told me that she wasn't good at that so I'd need someone else to help me. Umm... 'scuse me? Well okay then... So she tells me that I need to fill out a form for the next person. I explained that I already filled it out online and she said that they would need it on paper as well, so go ahead and fill it out again. Again... what? Okay, sure. I sat, filled out the form, and waited. And waited. And waited some more. After waiting an hour, nobody was at her window so I asked her if I was sent back to the back of the line. At this point the place was filling up, so waiting was becoming a bit less pleasant. She said that I was sent to the back of the line because I didn't have an appointment. I informed her that I DID have an appointment. At 10... She looked me up and looked my son up, saw that I had an appointment, and said that someone would be with me in a few minutes. I sat back down and was called in less than 5 minutes. The man that helped me was pleasant and kind. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes from the time I sat down with him. This tells me that I could've gotten out of there by 10:30 had there not been confusion with the first lady. Could've been a five star experience. I will forever make an appointment though... unless I can't wait 2 months for assistance. read more

We have been waiting for over 3 yrs to get my wife's APPROVED Disability check. NO ONE returns our calls. Going to the Walters road, Pasadena, TX office is an all day nightmare with no result, just more delays. read more

What is the point of having appointment times if you still have to wait hours to be seen.

I went because of a phone call. I got there at 1pm and was done by 3:45pm.. The staff was professional. Now the officers were a tad rude, but everyone else was nice. read more

I took my mom there the week after Hurricane Beryl. We arrived at 8:45. They gave the instructions and let everyone in right before 9:00 am. It was very orderly and efficient. We had our matter attended to and out of there by 9:30 am. I had expected to be there until lunch so I was pleasantly surprised to be in and out so quickly. read more

Got here about 840 in am. There was a line down the walkway. The officers were polite and instructed us what to do for the fastest service (like scanning the QR codes on the signs). At 9 we went in single file. Another person directed traffic to the windows which all seemed to be well staffed. I had several issues that needed to be addressed and I was concerned they would cut me off at what I thought was the most important one. However, Ms Reyes was very patient and polite and made sure she understood exactly what I was needing. She was a Customer Service rep not a Title II but well trained and I very much appreciated her help with my issues. I was in at 9 and out by 926 as a walk-in without an appointment. So if you need help with social security JUST GO (probably early am is best). Dont believe all the scary reports that you can't get help SS anymore due to staffing cuts. Staff was all there it looked like to me at this location on Watters Rd. Sometimes phone calls might take a little longer but call the LOCAL office number found on Google (not 1-800 number) exactly at 9 am when they open and I get through with very little hold time! SSA is working hard to serve the seniors and disabled. I very much appreciate Ms Reyes at the Pasadena, TX location. Thank you. read more

Social Security is a necessary evil that all elderly people in the US will have to deal with. Do NOT try to contact them by phone or in person on Monday or just after a 3 day weekend. The best day to visit them in person, from my experience is on Wednesday or Thursday between noon and 2 pm. Their staff is generally well trained but may be tired from answering the same question multiple times. Take all necessary documents with you or your trip will be a waste of time. Super fast for a name change. I completed the application online last night. Got in line at 8:45. Was seated at a booth by 8:55. Had a person helping me by 9:00 on the dot. And walked out at 9:05 with a successful name change. Sitting in my car at 9:07 writing this review. The smoothest process ever. Especially for something like this. As for the security guard reviews- he was wonderful. He was direct with instructions and held firm with pushback. He is doing exactly what he was hired to do. Any negative complaints are people not following the rules. Simple as that. read more

Today was my first encounter with a racist a*s bit*h a*s Karen, window 1 very rude I requested in Spanish and when I got to the window she said " i know you requested Spanish but I only speak English" which I said yes that's fine, I proceed to give her my ss and she didn't even let me talk and she was acting confuse and saying I don't understand anything that you're saying, idk why you're here for, what is this? Horrible, horrible experience. It's nearly impossible to get someone on the phone which is the only way you can make an appointment, which is required. You cannot make an appointment online for a name change. I drove all the way to the location (nearly an hour), only for the guard to tell me to call the phone number to make an appointment. Every time you call it's only automated messages and several times it will say no one can take your call and the call ends. It's a shame that this is such a poorly run place when so many people need their services. read more

They have made it impossible to take care of the business I needed and are not clear about what is needed. I provided the information in the way they asked for it then was told it was wrong and they cannot bend the rules for me? EXCUSE ME!? We're two years into covid, so I'm not sure why I'm being prompted upon writing a review to "take into consideration people are doing their best during these times" what that has to do with the social security office I'm unsure. Hire more people. I have been calling the office for a week. That is 7 days. I call every single day. Multiple times a day and I can NOT get an actual person over the phone. But you HAVE to make an appointment before you go in person or they WILL NOT see you. So either they're so overworked that they literally can't answer the phone (strange because it's quite frankly right next to them on their desks) or they simply do not care. The automated service continually tells you to go online, why I'm unsure, because regardless you still have to go in person depending on what you need. When the automatics service finally does say it's transferring you to someone it's just another place where they put you on hold until the call drops 35-45 mins later. The social security office, like most government agencies/buildings is trash and full of incompetence apparently. Especially based on the other reviews saying the same things I'm saying and from years ago. So is it covid or do these people just truly not understand their own jobs. Embarrassing. read more

I had no issues here. The staff and security was polite. Keep in mind they are extremely busy. When I walked up i was literally about 80 people deep outside. They only allow in what will fit in a single file line. I almost left thinking I was going to be there for hours. To my surprise the line went fast and within 25 minutes I was in front of some one. Very difficult to do business here. I had an appointment at 11:15 and they took me in half an hour later. The security is racist. I got here earlier than my appointment to check in and the security tapped his wrist saying it wasnt time yet in a rude way. When i got in to my appointment i put all my papers down on the table and she said "This is too much work" and grabbed the easy ones and told me to send her the rest through mail. Very bad service. Horrible place. I took my dad there to change the address for his social security benefits and the rent a cop treated everyone like it was a prison. These are mostly older, vulnerable, people; they don't need to be yelled at and herded like cattle. Everyone's trying to abide by all their rules and the employees are very ignorant and arrogant. Came here on a Monday around lunch time, and did not anticipate it to be as busy as it was. Busy, but organized by a computer system at the main entrance where you are prompted to input your social security number, answer several questions pertaining to the reason for your visit, and are issued a ticket with a letter and number corresponding to those queries. Although it was packed like a dive with the best food in town, there were copious chairs that were reasonably comfortable. No tv for the kiddos, just a tv issuing messages that referred back to the social security office. Was reprimanded by the security officer for tickling my easily bored child, who then squealed (must be a tough job). Weather info was also provided, but just local, so kind of pointless. The wait was not unusual for a government office, and the intercom system is difficult to understand at times, but they post your wait number on the tv monitor so that when your are next, it flashes red, and announcements are also provided in Spanish. Better signage for the service windows in the back would be helpful, as we noticed one couple get lost trying to find la ventana veinte-seis. After we were called, the process was very quick. It helped that I brought all the necessary documents, except for the name change application which I had forgotten. The attendant lady was very helpful - she asked me the appropriate questions and filled the application out from her computer terminal for me. She printed a receipt and asked me to verify that the info was correct. Within five minutes, we were finished. Overall wait was an hour, be sure to bring what you need to expedite the process. read more

If I could give this office zero stars I would. I never in life want to come back here. I waited 2 hours without my number being called , and then when I went up to the window to ask what was going on they lied & said they called my number three times a hour ago ,and I would have to pull another ticket. I never got up out of the lobby , and I'm not deaf. I was so pissed. If you have something else to do that day , don't even bother going . Went to this office not knowing what to expect. Officer at the door informed me I had to take a ticket with a number on it and wait. Took about 3 hours because of a lot of people ahead of me. Found the lady I talked with was very helpful and courteous. I gave it a 4 because of the long wait, but it was expected, due to the amount of people ahead of me. I believe it the wait is so long because they help the customer as much as they can which takes time. I believe the lady helped me over and above necessary to prevent me from having multiple returns to the office. Very happy with the organized procedure they use to call people, don't have to stand in a line, just wait for your number to be called. read more
