Horrible people working at this office lazy and rude. They all act as if it's an imposition to be patient when dealing with the elderly and disabled. If you can't be patient with the community individuals seeking assistance than you are in the WRONG LINE OF WORK! This office has been a hot mess and absolute nightmare to get anything accomplished with the workers there. read more

They just hung up on me! I guess the woman, who had been very helpful, didn't want to verify my last question! It shouldn't be like that, especially when I had called the 1-800 number for social security and waited for them for 50 minutes and that woman hung up on me too! These people hate their lives, hate their jobs, and especially hate everyone who walks in their door. If I had the option, I would go anywhere else, but this is the only location in Hays County. They have made me cry on multiple occasions. I have no fingers and no legs below the knees due to a deadly illness I contracted in 2011 that I shouldn't have survived. They treat me like I am the scum of the Earth. On my most recent visit, when my number was called and I went up to the window, the woman wouldn't even look at me. I asked her if she was going to listen to what I have to say. She kept saying, "How can I help you?" over and over again while I was talking. She then started yelling at me, "OH NO! You can take that attitude and get outta here! I'm not going to put up with this right at closing time!" She then pulled her shade down and told her supervisor that I had thrown "things" at her. Ummmm, I put my papers on the desk and slid them over to her. After all that drama, the supervisor called me over and reprimanded me for "throwing things". They were both making up a scenario that didn't take place. What a nightmare that place is. I left sobbing my eyes out. How sick they are to treat the disabled this way. They need mental help. If I reacted the way they did at my job, I would be fired on the spot. read more

I had a very decent experience at the San Marcos Social Security office. I came in towards the end of the day when they were slowing down. I took a ticket and maybe only waited 30 minutes and when I was called up, the whole process was 5-10 minutes and I was out of there! The only critique I would make is that I walked in and people were blocking where you needed to go get the ticket. I would put arrows on the floor or something or a huge sign that says "check in here." read more

They are good at pointing my careless mistakes, but I found out they failed to report job changes I reported to them. I guess its because I didn't make enough money. I'm not complaining, as I will take anything that gives me security. I just don't want it to come back to haunt me. read more

Customer service here sucks. I had the "pleasure" of dealing with a rude employee that sat there twiddling his thumbs and making questionable faces at my documents for a simple name change. Snarky remarks "well, I went to college when I was 30!" Last time I checked I could care less where you went you work at the social security office. Do your job without the unnecessary bs. He was very unhelpful and dismissive with me, giggling and sitting there rushing me as I was trying to gather my documents making sure I didn't lose anything. I went to Seguin social security office and had a different experience and was actually helped and was provided the information I needed. Also this place is a dump, it's small, dim, and wreaks. read more

Transaction time: 90 seconds. YAY Wait time: 2 hours. BOO I came here to this "secret location" at about 9:45am on a weekday and it was packed. They only have room for 15 chairs and there were 20+ people in there. Had I not driven from Austin, I would have tried another time. As noted in other reviews, not all the windows were open for service, wtf!? Coupla tips to enhance your experience (or that of others:) -Do your research ahead of time and be prepared with the right forms, etc. The SS website is quite robust and helpful, and you can call them as well. -Do not come with your entire family. If their presence is necessary, go ahead and drop them at the Half Price bookstore next door to wander and you can holler at them when it is your turn. -Speaking of Half Price, stop by and grab a cheap read on your way in. -If you are doing a name change, the DPS is right around the corner, whoop! read more

I went in on Thursday afternoon around 2 PM for a SS card replacement. I was out less than 30 min. I had no issues.... The staff was pleasant enough. Just make sure you have ALL the required documents and you should have no issues. read more

Word to the wise. Unless absolutely necessary, don't go to the SSA until an hour before closing. For some unknown reason, the representatives are able to assist people at light speed when the work day is almost over. The last time I went, I got there at 1:00 pm. From 1:00pm -3:00pm they processed 10 people (I was the 15th person on the wait list and there were about 10-15 others after me). By 4:00pm the lobby was cleared and they had served 15-20 people. In one hour, they were able to assist almost as many people as they had assisted ALL DAY!!! Now I understand why they have an armed guard in the lobby. San Marcos is a beautiful town, but our DPS and SSA will ruin your entire day! read more

My dog ate my wallet, so I need to get a new social security card. I was told to expect to wait for my turn for a least two hours. Well I went on a Friday, and took my number and waited in the seats they provide. The place is small for seating, however they have restrooms, drinking fountains, air conditioning and a TV. showing some random channel. I only had to wait about a half hour, which did not bother me since I was busy talking with a friend. They told me I would receive my new card in the mail in about two to three weeks. I was happy to find that I received it the mail the following Wednesday. read more

Giving two stars because the staff is polite and professional; however, they need a bigger location. San Marcos is way too populated now for this office to have such a tiny location. Population is around 65,000 and this office has two windows, one of which is hardly ever open. The times I have been in there, only one window is in use and the place is so packed that there are people outside and those from the waiting room have to go out to call names to the people outside. If you work 8am-5pm, may as well take a half-day because your lunch is not enough time and they close at 4pm. I tried to go on my lunch break and I was there 3 hours only to be done in about 3 minutes. read more

Returning to work, I contacted SSA monthly to ensure I understood exactly what they needed from me and followed through for two years. Each time I received a different earnings cap per month. Next time I asked for initials on figure amounts given me. A few months ago when I met with a staff member I noticed that she had no familiarity with my case and that the last letter I received from their local office was still not in my e-file. I'd noticed that sort of thing when I spoke w/them on the phone about their letters to me which would be several months old and still not showing up on my electronic file in their system. It's December some copies of check stubs submitted in June, July and early August were not in my file as of Monday last week of November. Those are copies I gave in hand to the Counselor in July when I met with her; and on second thought decided to re-submit later that afternoon when I dropped off an envelope with a copy of a document she requested. I'm thinking, these are the people in charge of qualifying many for their SS benefits. Or Not. With efiles that aren't up to date in their computer system that then appear that clients are not 'reporting.' AND, incorrect information is given over the telephone and in person. Get it in writing and get a signature. Get their name. read more
