If you happen to find yourself in Santa Barbara, CA, (aka America's Riviera) carve out a couple of…read morecouple of hours to check out the County Courthouse. No, not to hang out and gawk at folks at court. But to soak in the beauty and history of the building. This place is gorgeous. Spanish colonial architecture, mural paintings, tower overlook, clock room, sunken garden, and you might catch a glimpse of a wedding or two. I saw four. I held back on wedding crashing though. Apparently you can rent the Mural room or Sunken garden terrace for weddings. Plus small wedding ceremonies are allowed in the public areas of the Sunken garden lawn, in first come first serve basis. The 4 story Spanish Moorish style building was built in 1929. It was built after the original courthouse, that was built in 1872, suffered damage in the 1925 earthquake. -Sunken garden The foundations of the original courthouse is where the sunken tropical gardens are currently. There is a big swath of lush green lawn. The multitude of palm trees that tower around the garden are from various countries. 35 specimens of palm trees. -Sandstone water fountain In the front of the courthouse building facing Anacapa Street is a sandstone water fountain "Spirit of the Ocean". It was built by a Venetian sculptor in 1929. -Free tours Step inside the building to see take a tour, a free self guided tour or join a free docent led tour. There was a huge crowd of folks waiting to get in, the crowd included an entire wedding party along with the tourists and everyday county residents. Security funneled everyone quickly through the security checkpoint. - Clock tower viewing platform I chose to do a self guided tour and took the elevator to the 4th floor to the clock tower viewing station. There was an option to climb stairs, which I choose to take going down. From that vantage point, I noticed that downtown Santa Barbara has no high rise buildings. This building was the tallest. The 360 degree views of the mountains, ocean and valley were beautiful. -Bison Schnell clock gallery display room Then I took the stairs down. On the 3rd floor was Bison Schall clock gallery. The room is a display showing the tower's functioning Seth Thomas clock timepiece and the history of classic cos and timekeeping. It's super cool to see the actual clock hammers move and strike. The room is not always open since it's staffed by volunteers. But not to worry, the glass wall allows you to view the clock and room contents from the stairwell. - Mural room and hallway I entered the 2nd floor and began walking down a hallway with huge oil painted framed murals depicting the early days of European contact with the Native Chumash. The hallways were vast with its high vaulted ceilings and arches The Mural Room is located in this floor. This is where folks rent out for wedding ceremonies. It has wooden pews. murals covering its walls and high vaulted ceilings. I didn't go in because a wedding was just finishing up. -Tiled staircase I then took the outdoor spiral, Spanish tiled, staircase to the first floor. But right next to the staircase is a beautiful mosaic tiled wall alcove. Don't miss that photo opp. On the first floor near the elevators is another set of stairs, this one is an interior set with beautiful tiles.

Being a business owner as long as I can remember without any bad reputation, I rushed to call and find out what happened, No, some DON character, proceeded to tell me pricing about the BBB and I asked if it was a marketing call, or if he is asking for money because thats another department. he said no, and explained imporantce of bbb he said his prices, I said, whats your email? I said, no, that department will email you, reluctantly gave me his email, then told me "I'm not going to be doing some email thing either you want it or you don't" Excuse me DON from BBB not sure who you think you are, but you are representing a trustworthy brand that people go to for professionalism and you should be a beacon of that. So once refusing to receive an email from our company not only will we not be joining your BBB we will also not allow our other businesses participate in your terrible representation thinking we can't complain because your the complaint department. Well DON the rest of us people working our ass off for a living, take pride in not being a poor representation of companies., I suggest @BetterBusinessBureau @BBB you take this serious as he's representing your firm, where us citizens go to complain, its a shame sir, you should be more fitting for a loan shark or collections department.

And the music was 10/10! Loved the 80s and classics when they weren't being remixed in with repetitive yelling and banging on cells from less mentally stable inmates. Otherwise the most grimy and unsanitary establishment to ever exist. No soap, hand sanitizer, face masks, or signs of being cleaned in the last century. The bologna sandwich lunch still haunts me. No matter how hungry you are, please don't give in. Best to use it as a pillow to sleep with (learned that from my cell mates after the damage was already done). The most valuable thing I gained from this experience is an appreciation for the little things in life, including basic essentials and comforts that I definitely did not receive here XD but that we take for granted everyday. I hope if you ever get yourself into a pickle that you stay positive and kind and remember that it probably can be worse. Though I heard prisons in the state have a lot of cool programs and free education etc now.. Despite this, no plans to return. And I hope to never see these familiar faces again (:

I mean i went in w/o an appointment and wham bang was accosted by a huge group of people seeking succor from the cali DMV! HA! I went through almost the entire process including taking a photo which made me look like Rock Hudson when it was published that he had AIDS! ( i swear. i look gaunt and ready to meet my maker!) Unfortunately i failed the test and decided to hightail out of the place. I spent over a week in SB for holidays and family illness issues and so i came here on the 27th to take my test over. First of all everyone working here were still on the high of Christmas and treated us all few applicants like long lost family members. It scared me initially and then i got into it. I did ask if i could take my photo over and the nice lady replied: $35 to redo. Ok for that. I mean for 35 bucks i could have a few drinks sitting at the Tee Off bar, right? In any event i passed the test easily, missed 2 and received graciously, my 2024 renewal. The peeps that work here are the best: full of smiles and helpful and caring. Why can't all of the DMZ offices follow that trend? And why can't it be Christmas the whole year 'round? Cheers!
