So initially I wasn't going to write any reviews of this place. Although this store has a very nice layout and staff, this was your typical clothing store with really nice trendy/casual clothing. What enticed me to give this place a great rating was the space/cafe located in the back. Upon walking around the store, I noticed some really good music playing and a narrow hallway leading to an open space in the back- immediately I was amazed! This open space is literally a hidden gem! It is a small cafe with great vibes and music- somewhere to come and relax, do work and/or be social. It's almost like a "Starbucks" type of vibe but on a cooler type scale. There is even a big sign in the back labeled "Be Social" and "WiFi" signs labeled all around. My best advice about this store? Go to the back. I could really see myself frequenting here a lot once I move to this area and also potentially buying something here. I was visiting NC for work and made it a point to stop into the local Social Status to see what the hype was about. After seeing the store on sneaker shopping on Complex the place has a cool vibe from the moment you walk in. Can't say enough about the staff. Presently greeted and I appreciated they treated all customers with that extra sense they wanna help but not so pushy you feel like your space is invaded lol!! (You know what I mean) The staff saw some items I was interested in and went above and beyond to find other similar styles that may have not been on display for me to see. My overall experience was outstanding and I visited 3 times during my 2 weeks stay. Don't have to be a hypebeast to get great help and respected from the staff. I thought it would have a stuffy vibe because some heat is straight money!!! But if you wanna drip then that's the price you pay. Better then paying resale!! Absolute worst customer service from a company I have ever dealt with in my life. They are con artists. Both times I have shopped there, I've gotten damaged products. The customer service reps don't care when you finally get a response. It took me 5 days to even get a response, which was to just tell me they don't care and I'm out of luck. My last order multiple items got canceled because they oversold, still haven't been refunded. What shirts they did send me arrived wadded up loose in a box that was open & severely damaged. The shirt had stains all over it. I don't know how this place stays in business with the way they treat customers. Social Status opened in late 2011 on Central Avenue amidst the cluster of vintage stores. This is the company's first Social Status location, the second one is in downtown Pittsburgh, PA, and adds another layer of hip to the already cool Central Avenue. It is the type of place where music, art, and fashion collide with pop-culture. The store looks like a white box which contrasts strongly with the masculine colors of the clothes and with the old patina of the antique and vintage stores nearby. At first glance, this shop seems to outfit the male cast members of MTV's show The Jersey Shore, but if you get past that initial perception that it is only an urban or Guido-esque club-wear shop there are many good men's clothes with plenty of style. If you are the hardcore preppy type this place might not be for you, on the other hand if you want to add some bling to your wardrobe then this is the place to spice you up. The selection is very well edited and they carry limited-editions, collaborative items, and hard-to-find brands. This is the type of clothing that you won't find in a mall. In addition, the sneaker selection is superlative exemplar. They also carry Pharrell Williams' Billionaire Boys Club label, but my biggest surprise was the selection of Rei Kawakubo's Japanese playful Comme des Garçons Play line. They even have those cool Comme des Garçons X Converse sneakers which according to the salesperson were priced at $125. These are the same shoes that sell at the Opening Ceremony store in NYC. So, kudos for Social Status for carrying items on par with such cool establishments. Prices run the gamut from reasonable to pricey especially with some of the designer limited-edition pieces. Hats are priced around $35.00, while T-shirts go for about $50.00 to $110.00 range. Some might find it excessive to pay $110 for a T-shirt by Comme des Garçons Play while others might not bat an eye-lash over it. Coats are several hundred dollars depending on cut and fabric. However, their sales are good and are worth the wait. My only issue with this store is that their website does not have online shopping right now, but according to their site it's coming soon. When probed the sales staff about a possible launch date, they were not able to give anything concrete. Nonetheless, they do show their items online in a cool editorial way, but sometimes I don't have the time to shop in a brick-and-mortar store. When they fix that, I will give them a five star rating. Other than that, this store has loads of clothes that can be incorporated into any man's wardrobe, regardless of their dominant style of choice. Go on give it a shot! read more

There should be a way to give this Charlotte location a zero. I visited this location with my spouse and two teen children in an attempt to purchase something for them. Whoever the then empty story (1 gentleman completing a purchase and the employees) I guess prompted the short (5ft 6 maybe) medium complexion women to walk past me after I stumbled near the front plant and locked the door. I verbalized oh wow I didn't notice that there, she said nothing then walked back behind the counter. I told my children to look and see if they liked anything while I completed a message on my phone. Unfortunately they weren't interested in anything and the fact that it felt to me this was a self service store.(No one talked at all) I guess if we found something we would have had to get them, ring them up package them and then unlock the door to leave ourselves. I bought (online) their Adidas Superstar Boost collab with SneakersNStuff. Issue 1. Was the weeklong shipping to me in California. Two days shipping is becoming table stakes. A week? #Terrible Issue 2. I received someone else's shoes. The same type, but wrong size. The other person's packing slip was inside the box. Issue 3. I called the store and was told to e-mail. I did e-mail in the morning and didn't receive a response till the next business day (four calendar days later) and the e-mail was a link to a page on their website for returns. That page doesn't seem to be available anywhere else of their site if it was, I would have utilized it, rather than calling them in the first place. In addition, I didn't just want to return my shoes, I wanted the actual size I ordered. Ultimately I ended up going to a local retailer (Undefeated in San Francisco) and buying the shoes in my size from them and then selling the misrouted/wrong to someone else. this is my 2nd favorite store in Charlotte. (Blacksheep gets a slight nod) But I do love this place. Clothing and sneakers are 2 things that I cannot live without, and Social Status has the best selection (in Charlotte) of the brands that I like. If you're looking for BBC, Lebron X Corks, Yeezy 2s, or the latest limited edition Nikes or Jeremy Scott x Adidas this is where you go. I wouldn't even know where to get that stuff elsewhere in CLT. House of Hoops and DTLR don't get the limited edition stuff that Social Status gets. Your next best bet is online probably. The store's layout and vibe is pretty cool and there's a great selection of apparel, shoes and hats. It's tough to say no. I will say that the customer service is kind of hit or miss. I've been in there on a number of occasions (one of my best friends lives down the road from there) and sometimes the staff is great and sometimes not so much. Never awful, but average at times. And in my opinion customer service is extra important when you're one of the little guys; When you're a boutique, small business, or local shop it's crucial to be good to your customers, especially your repeat/loyal ones. And that's why BlackSheep gets 5 stars from me and Social Status doesn't. At Blacksheep I go for the whole shopping experience: the merchandise, the atmosphere, the staff. Stopped in the other day with some friends visiting from out of town, thought it'd be nice to explore the trendy, artistic and funky side or neighborhood of Charlotte known as Plaza Midwood. While strolling down the street and checking out other businesses, we paused at Social Status and decided to peek in. The place has a cool layout, nice hardwood floors, shoe walls, sock and hat displays and hanging racks of pants and shirts. No two items are the same. Threads are definitely unique. Store is definitely boutique style, stuff you won't find easily replicated and worn by others. However, you well definitely pay the price for it. Sneakers were priced around $160-180, the few that I looked at, and shirts and pants were similarly priced between $50-125 each, which is not what I call very reasonable in my book. Most of the sizes I saw were mediums and larges.. my question is if they have one item on display, do they have the same item in varying sizes in the back? Or is it, you see what you get? For Charlotte, I was kinda shocked that a boutique with this clothing style existed.. but as far as urban styles and pricing, I'd rather shop online at dr jays or visit a boutique in a larger city... I couldn't see myself paying that much for one item. Cool place to browse though.
