Fun atmosphere and a good find. My friend and I had a wonderful time here. The drinks were delicious! A bit pricey though, so be warned. My drink was almost $20. Also, the menu makes it sound like the drinks will be a little showy. For example, the drink I ordered said it would be poured out of a Bible. It was called "the blessing." And my friend's was supposed to be served in a piggy bank. And other drinks say they will be served in pineapples, have a fire element, etc. Which sounded super fun! However, it must have just been part of the speakeasy bit? Our drinks were normal cocktails served in normal cocktail glasses. Don't bother. My husband and I went here on a Saturday night. It was dead, I can see why. We grabbed a bar menu to check out their drinks. A bar tender was making a drink 4 feet from us and ignored us, I get it she was busy but at least acknowledge us. Another was dancing to a song playing in the bar while staring at her phone. Society Lounge has so much potential. The location is great and the speakeasy vibe is really fun--I love the whole build-up of getting into this little hidden gem. That said, the experience is just okay overall. The service is consistently pretty average, and it doesn't really match the atmosphere they're going for. One time I went during the holidays when it was all decorated for Christmas, and mid-order my server actually walked away to help another table and never really finished the interaction, which kind of summed up the experience for me. read more

I've been to countless bars and met more than my fair share of bartenders, but Jordan is in a class of his own. Protect this man at all costs! When my SO didn't know what she wanted to order, Jordan asked her to close her eyes, imagine a place she wanted to be transported to, anywhere on the planet. She said the mountains! and holy smokes! This drink did not disappoint. The presentation, The aromatics, The flower Garnish, The flavors... The drink put you in the spring time mountains. The only word to describe the drinks and Jordan's excellence is: Ethereal. Finding it: We stumbled upon this speakeasy completely by accident, raincoats on, dripping wet after a concert, wandering down the street looking for some food, drinks or shenanigans. From the outside, the entrance looked more like an antique shop or maybe even a quirky little museum dedicated to mid-century modern furniture. Only when we stepped inside, and down the steps, did we realize we'd discovered something far more magical. A Broom Closet. The atmosphere is intimate and warm, tucked away like a secret, meant only for those curious enough to seek it out. Between the cozy basement setting, the subtle vintage charm, and Jordan's unmatched hospitality, the entire experience felt like being let in on a little secret that you almost don't want to share, because it's just. that. good. If you're lucky enough to find it, don't just stop in -settle in. Ask questions, try something new, allow yourself to vibe. This place isn't a bar, it's an experience. PS: this is not a sports bar, so don't be rude and ask for the Lions game or any sports to be put on the TV's. It's not the vibe or the crowd. Cheers! We will be back! I have been a fan of Society Lounge since moving to Cleveland last year. Up until last month, the drinks were consist, inventive, and well worth the price. However, since opening under new management, I was disappointed with both my drink and service. For $20 I expect a drink that is well crafted, however, the drink I received was more reminiscent of a high schooler raiding their parent's liquor cabinet. Despite myself and my partner ordering the same cocktail, each had a completely different composition. Beverages alone, the change is decor is jarring. What was previously a quaint, dimly lit lounge is now a mixture of fluorescent lighting, gimmicky decor, and top 50 pop hits. I would love to see improvements to Society as new management works out the kinks, but I will not be returning soon. read more

Brought some out of town work friends here for some fun and drinks. It was completely underwhelming and an off putting experience. We were about the only people in the place. We asked where we should sit and were told "anywhere" in a crabby tone. We had to go to the bar to order - which is fine - but considering we were the only people in there and the 4 bartenders were just standing around on their phones was really frustrating. So a few of us went up to order and it took a good 1-2 minutes for the bartenders to put down their phones to get us a drink. When I ordered the "young and fashionable" I asked what kind of rye whiskey they had because I didn't want buffalo trace bourbon. I was told in a snarky manner that they don't use buffalo trace - except that's literally listed under the drink. I settled on plain old bulleit rye and I pulled out cash. The bartender told me that I need to have exact change if I'm paying with cash so I said ok. When I asked for a total for the drink I was told $29 for the drink, though the menu said $18. So there was an up charge for basic bulleit rye? I said ok but had to go grab my card from the table because I wasn't leaving a $10 tip for this bartender. When I came back, the bartender told me that the price was really $21 because they "gave me a discount". I acted appreciative and tipped too much, with cash, and went back to the table. There was nothing special about the drink and this place was anything but inviting. As a downtown resident, I will not be back. The whiskey bar right across the street has 5 star service and a way better drink and bourbon selection. Just sad that out of town guests had a poor experience here too. read more

How unfortunate this place has gone downhill since Hangry Brands took over. This used to be one of the classiest places to get a craft cocktail - truly, a hidden gem. Unfortunately, the classy vibe was wallpapered over with cheap graphics and hokey decor from Amazon (I've seen it online). The staff are not as skilled at the previous staff of Society Lounge. Right before they rebranded, they came out with a really enjoyable menu. Now it is full of cartoony, (even offensive) names (IE; F*** Men) and several of the staple garnishes ($ ice cube, flaming $100), are recycled in several drinks. I know Hangry Brands loves to promote they are "female owned", you don't have to name a drink degrading men. Tonight, I was ignored by staff for 20+ minutes despite eye contact made with every staff member. They were so concerned with cleaning up and closing out the checks rather than serving the guests still in front of them. Who I presumed to be the manager, was over the top and animated, screaming and laughing with drunk customers. I would've thought she was on the same par as they were. I ordered a drink from one woman, and she proceeded to walk over to her friends and talk for 5+ minutes and another bartender had to ask if I wanted to order to which I said I was confused if she got my order or not. When I brought my experience to the attention of the bartender who DID serve me, he was apologetic, but didn't offer much saying it was just "growing pains". I have been here a couple times since the rebrand, and as a professional working in the hospitality industry and who has a local Instagram page recommending things in Cleveland, I would not recommend Society lounge to friends, family, guests, or Followers. read more

Since moving downtown in 2019, going to Society Lounge's "Miracle on E 4th" holiday pop-up bar on the Saturday after Thanksgiving has become an annual tradition. Usually I go with friends to kick off the season after the annual tree lighting in Public Square. This year, I ended up going beforehand and I'm so glad I did -- otherwise, I may not have been able to get in at all. My friend showed up 10 minutes or so before they opened (at 4pm) and they told her that they were still getting set up. She decided to quickly pop into the 5th Street Arcade while waiting for the bar to officially open. Upon returning, the host stationed outside on E 4th asked if she had a reservation and denied her re-entry when she told him no. She thought this was odd given that she had just been there a few minutes prior. When I joined her, we asked the host if we could in the very least go down to sit at the bar versus at a table. We were told we could only go down to use the restroom because they were all full, and that we'd need to come back upstairs to be officially admitted. We looked at each other and seized our opportunity. Upon descending, I noticed some familiar festive decor, but not as much as past years and that all the lights weren't on like usual. We then turned the corner and realized that they were not crowded whatsoever! This was seriously so strange given that the host had told us there was no room for us. We decided to take a few pictures with the Buddy The Elf display and sit at the bar anyway, where we easily found two open seats. There were definitely not enough bartenders. I had to grab our own menu at the downstairs host stand and it took at least 15-20 minutes for us to get waters and even asked what we wanted. At that point, my friend got a text saying they were ready to seat us, so I guess whatever they were using to gauge wait times was accurate. It was just very surprising given that this is always a busy night and the bar was not even remotely full yet. I ordered the new addition to the menu: Marshmallows and Unicorns. It came with a skewer of marshmallows with a soaked cherry in between. It was delicious! My friend got the Santarex. She also wanted a souvenir pin. After waiting 10 mins or so we were told they were already out but would have more in a few weeks. Between when we ordered and when we got our drinks, I went upstairs to re-add my name to the waiting list so we could get back in after the tree lighting. The host admitted to me that he was new and would do his best to get me back in later but couldn't make any promises. Later that evening, I never got a text about being ready to be seated or anything, so we decided to go elsewhere. I hope all of this was just early holiday season growing pains, but I do worry that these issues could persist. I can't even imagine what it might have been like later that evening with a Cavs game, concert at House of Blues, the tree lighting and fireworks, and Small Business Saturday all happening simultaneously. With 8 other holiday pop-up bars now, maybe skip this one if you've gone in the past or go during the week. read more

The area it's located in and the entrance and the chippy 19-yr-old bouncer all added to its prohibition-type bootlegging charm. What I loved about this speakeasy is that it's actually in a basement and that the space is LARGE! The decor was sumptuous and everyone was well dressed. It's definitely a "bring your sports jacket" dress code. My date brought his velvet smoking jacket so you know we were dapper AF, hahaha.
