Hands down the best bar in Lakewood. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you're into cheap drinks, great music that doesn't drown out your conversations, friendly bartenders & an overall laid back atmosphere this is the place for you. On almost every Friday & Saturday there is either a DJ playing mostly indie rock (w/ some classic/punk mixed in) or live bands. There is rarely a cover charge for the live music. Sunday is import night, all bottles are $2. They have a shuffle puck table (best bar game ever), foosball & 2 pool tables. Plenty of seating and a very large outdoor smoking patio w/ cornhole. read more

5 O'Clock will always stand in infamy. I am pretty sure the smoke in the air is still lingering from someone's cig they puffed in 1977. I like to imagine her name was Cherry and she was wearing tight black jeans with silver zippers on the legs. Her permed, sticky Aqua-Net hair pulled high onto her head with tendrils dripping. She sat at the corner stool waiting for her guy Dom to finish up in the restroom. They had a long night ahead of them. She was trying to keep him distracted to slow down his drinking by cigarettes and cleavage. Dom had helped more than one dump earn the title of punch palace after too much to drink. Ah, the 5 O'Clock. I don't care how many creepy men are hanging around the bar, I love this place. read more

Not just an ordinary bar.. Basically a hipster type of bar with good music and dancing.... It is such a different positive vibe compared to the rude people you will run into on W. 6th... There was no hip hop or rap or r&b playing which makes me want to try this place out again... It's an excellent dive bar in that the alcohol is cheap, the limited snacks come in big bags (3 oz cheese curls are $0.75) and the tiny ladies room has never been out of toilet paper (though one of the two stalls currently lacks a lock). There's a performance space off to one side, so there's a 9:00 open mic comedy show every Monday night that starts between 9:30 and 10:00, so you've time to get a $2 Black Label and/or a cheeseburger from the McDonald's two blocks away. They also offer live music some Saturdays, but I've never been to one of those shows, so I can't rate them. read more

So I ventured into the Five O'Clock on a Saturday night on a date, not knowing what to expect. I had read some of the reviews on here, and it seemed like the kind of place I would like, so I was excited. First of all, it was a special night because the Virginia Marti School was having a pirate themed fashion show, so all of the hipsters were out in full force. I liked the curvy booths set up against the wall, and they had little candles on them to create an "ambiance" of sorts. However, I did find their prices a little too pricey. 6 bucks for a pitcher of PBR? I can go to a different bar in town and get the same thing for 4 dollars. They were busy, so the bartenders seemed a little too distracted to deliver prompt service. I think I need to try this place out on a night that isn't so crazy, and is a little more chill. I have, and will continue to, no matter what. There is a portion of my life that I hold very dear but I can't seem to remember very much of it. I place thanks and blame on the Five O'clock in Lakewood. I spent nearly all of my free time from age twenty one to twenty seven inside of its soft, welcoming embrace. I loved all of her: the cheap Pabst draught, the Big Buck Hunter game (RIP), and the local ripper dudes playing The Hellcopters, Dead Boys and all of the other good drinking music. I will not, however, stand up for what the bar is like now, my time with it has passed, but my last few visits have been low key with local weirdoes barely speaking over the televisions hanging over their beers. I have walked there in the rain, the snow, and left tons of shows early just to walk through those ugly swinging doors. Wednesdays used to be out of control what with eighties night at the Chamber being right next door. But pretty much every night could turn into the best of black outs if you were smart enough to let it go down that way. And if you were looking to have relations with a stranger this was an easier (and cheaper) place to make that happen than any brothel in Nevada. I said it and a lot of people are still regretting it. The best. Go inside the men's room and use the urinal (guys and gals) because the carving of the initials TFA still reigns supreme. Go inside for whatever reason because this was the place for a time but other places took its place. Most of the original cast still works there, for better or worse, so you can make your memories as vague as I made mine. All in all, this place is a total winner but I can't remember all the reasons why, and that's the best reason why. You're turn! read more

This place is awesome. It's a total dive bar when you walk in - which is great. However, to your total surprise, the patio is this incredible, updated area. They have a pool table in a room off the side. The bartender is really nice AND they carry a 36 oz can of PBR. The largest can of beer I've ever seen. This place is great. read more

I came here with some friends after a night long happy hour. I live so close and haven't been in the 3 years that I've lived in Lakewood. I was impressed by the amount of different liquors they have for being a small dive bar. The prices are incredibly affordable and the bartender made my drink just the way I like it. I will be stopping by again. read more

My favorite place in town. Polite, personal, fair prices, what else do you need? The staff is the best, the patrons are wonderful! They have live music on the weekends which is a must! It has been 10 years since my last visit. I decided to stop up at the Five O'Clock while attempting to kill time before the Capitol Theater's midnight showing of The Warriors. Five O'Clock is a nice bar with all the original retro furnishings that I appreciate. It has a nice warm interior with a red hue. The curved bar is a sight to behold and the crescent booths are impressive. I don't recall seeing any TV's which is one of my favorite things for a bar to leave out of the mix. I don't know why people fixate on a glowing screen when there are real life characters to engage with or observe. They have a decent beer selection as well. I hope that I can stay strong and not go with friends to W 25th or any of the Animal Planet style watering holes where people try to assert dominance and lay claim to drunken prey. This is coming fresh off a Friday night where my friend should have DDT'd some jerk at Market Garden. Think I may need to reenact my weekend boycott of that clown show. read more

This place is awesome. After having really mediocre service and still tipping very well I was confronted by the bar tender and her husband for telling a friend that my service was sub-par. He over heard and ran in and got his wife, the only bar tender on duty to come outside and confront me. That's the quickest I saw that bar tender move the whole night, and the most attention I got from her that evening as well. After her husband stood out side and stared me down like Roman Polanski at a high school girls cheerleading competition, he decided to be the bigger man and shake my hand while telling me that I was acting childish and being an asshole. When I refused to shake his hand and said I really didn't care that much, I still left over 20% tip and I wished him and his wife well, he threatened to hit me (which he apparently didn't have the guts to do) and call the cops on me for standing out on the side walk. Moral of the story is he didn't go to to college (his words) but majored in biology (..uh?) and wasn't in a fraternity so there was no way he was being a douche bag. No way at all. Overall I like this bar. I had a fun night, but really when there's 10 people sprawled out across such a large space I shouldn't have to wait so long for a drink. I also shouldn't have to explain to a bartender what a 'double of jameson and coke' is. Yes, I want them in the same glass. Together. Throw some straws in that bitch, it gives me something to do with my hands. But hey, with a bar every ten feet in Lakewood, who gives a shit about customers, really? read more

Well, at first you would think that the atmosphere is worth the overpriced drinks, but then you realize that the bartenders (there was 3 or 4 of them) just leave a whole third of the bar untouched. They kept taking the orders of people who just walked up there, while no one on my side of the bar was getting a single order taken. They play favorites and don't care about you. I came here one night with one of my best friends (both of us females). She just moved to Lakewood and this bar is right around the corner from her house. She raved about this bar so we decided to go. It was a busy night, but for someone who has been in the restaurant industry as a bartender in a busy bar, a server in a five star restaurant, and also a manager in a five star restaurant. I was looking for a good dive bar and excited to try it. The atmosphere was great...at first. We each had 2 draft beers and decided to each order a shot of washington apple. We were told by the bartender in a rude way that they were to busy to make the shot. His exact words were "if you knew anything about this industry you wouldn't even ask that." I then told him that I have been in this industry for over 10 years. He proceeded to get in my face and yell at me. we asked for our tab and after waiting a half our for our tab with our credit card being held until we paid, we were asked to leave and had our credit card literally thrown at us. the bartender further yelled at us and told us we were being unreasonable. I then told him that he was being rude and that what he said was uncalled for and that I would never deny one of my guests service because I could not handle the pressure. He then called me a C**t and then literally got in my face over the bar with his hand waving in my face the whole time. At that point a guy standing next to us escorted us out because he was concerned that the bartender would hit one of us, the gentleman actually told us this when we got outside. when we were walking out chaos erupted, people were throwing beer bottles behind the bar because they heard everything that went on. this is all true and the only reason I created this account was to post this. I am honestly warning all females...do not attend this bar by yourself!!!! I do not feel it is safe! I have never complained about service, ever, but this needs to be said! read more

I have never been treated worse. I went after work with a friend because it was within walking distance and I had been there once before. After one beer, we asked for a shot and our tabs. The bar tender said he didn't have time to make any shots, it was too busy. We said ok then we'll just leave, and he walked away and never brought our tabs. We asked again when he was cashing out the lady next to us, and he flipped out. He stormed back over, threw our cards at us and said I hope I never see you cunts again. My friend cried as we walked home. I have never been denied service because the bar tender is "too busy" and then been treated with such disrespect.
