Deb happened to have just arrived and 30 minutes before her 1st appt of the day and said she would take me for a quick hair cut. Hidden gem in Cranston. So glad to have found this place. The environment in the salon is super comfortable, the staff I met are all laid back and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. My hair was cut, colored and styled by Maggi. She really took the time to listen to what I wanted and spent time explaining the color process and choosing a tone with me. She was also very easy to get along with, no awkward and forced conversation. She also offered styling tips and told me about the products she was using- without making me feel pressured to by them. I'm always scared to get my haircut. I never feel like the stylist listens to me, and I never end up leaving with what I want. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! If I could give negative stars I would. I bought the Groupon for a cut and color and saw Margaret. I have never had a worse haircut in my entire life. I went in with normal hair and came out with horrible roots and the worst color I have ever seen (photos attached). I was there for 4 hours, charged an additional $30, and never got the deep conditioning treatment. But that I can deal with, it was that I then had to go pay $200 to have my hair fixed by a stylist who was absolutely mortified and has never seen a worse color job in her life. Not to mention she said the cut was croocked. When I called they offered me nothing except to come in and look at it...Do not ever go here!!!!!!! read more

Hello, I went in on a Groupon for a cut and color and am very pleased. First of all, the salon is cute, not too fancy, but just right. The location is fine, easy enough to get to, with ample parking right across the street. My stylist was Margaret, and from the get go she was nothing but professional. She gave me a relaxing and focused consultation where we talked about my wants and needs for a hair cut and a color. The cut was amazing as well as the color. Society is awesome. Alex was my stylist and she well-exceeded my expectations. The process went smoothly and she managed to make my entire stay extremely enjoyable. After Alex was done cutting and coloring my hair, she started to style it while explaining the technique she was using and how to do it myself. I just think small details make the greatest impact, and this place had many. I ended up with an even better balayage hair color (and cut) I showed her in the picture I had saved, with tons of dimension and beauty. Same complaint as other reviews. Purchased a Groupon for a balayage, deep treatment, cut and blow dry. When I arrived I was told it would be a additional $30 for the toner? When this usually comes with the service. This was not stated in the Groupon. Hair dresser was extremely rough with my hair. Before adding conditioner (not a deep treatment as also stated in the Groupon) onto my hair she tried to separate it with a comb to add the toner ripping and pulling onto my hair. Ive never experienced anything like this. Came out with horrible patchy highlights all over my head and a terrible cut. I had to go spend another $200 at another salon who was in shock that they even let me walk out the way that it was. We called and spoke with the manager who said I would receive a refund for my service. It's been almost two weeks and we've been trying to call with no response and still no refund. I will attach before pictures of my hair done by this salon and a after picture of my hair done by another salon. Huge disappointment and waste of money. read more

It's so cool in here! The salon is so unique, organized, and very clean. Sarah is absolutely fantastic- very talented. She cuts your hair exactly the way you want it and is a guru at color. If she does happen to think that an alternative to the style/color you want is a better suit for you, she'll suggest it just as a professional opinion, but she is definitely not afraid to do anything you ask for! The people here were very nice and the atmosphere is cool and unique but I was unsatisfied with the color I received here. I was already very blonde and asked to be lightened to a platinum. The stylist bleached my hair in a balayage style and toned it, afterwards she said she went heavy on the toner but it would wash out. I gave her the benefit of the doubt but was left with streaky, brassy highlights that looked awkwardly grown out rather that balayage. I'm sure a single process color would be fine but I would not recommend coming here for any special techniques. read more

Been going to Steph for over 15 years. Always a great cut and always a good time. The atmosphere is a blast and everyone is extremely nice. I ask every time "if the haircut I'm asking for is the new Mullet you neeeed to let me know". So far, no mullet. That's the kind of trust I have. Being 40 and having a full head of hair is a true blessing. I feel it is my responsibility to give my hair the best it can get. I LOVE this place. LOVE it! I love the location, the decor, the vibe, the music, the stylists, the products, the occasional owner's dog dropping by -- everything. I've been searching for a stylist that could work with all of my cowlicks for years. That's not an exaggeration, I've bounced around from salon to barbershop with sub-par results to the point that I dreaded cutting my hair. Alex has been styling my hair for months now. She is always willing to work with me to pull off styles I suggest, in particular, styles that I'd often been told I couldn't pull off in the past because of my stubborn hair. Alex knows exactly how to work with it, for example thinning it out in the right places, and she'll explain the process along the way to keep me in the know. She's never pushy and is always willing to accommodate what you want. This isn't some stuffy, uptight salon. Everyone who works at Society is friendly, down to earth, and has a great sense of humor. I have pretty strong social anxiety, but I've always felt comfortable here -- not just in the stylist's chair, but while waiting for my appointment to start, too. I can't say the same for other salons and barbershops. If you're socially awkward like me you can book your appointments online, no phone call necessary! In my opinion, the location is great. There's a large parking lot across the street that always has plenty of room for cars. The store itself has a play on modern and retro decor. I find it aesthetically pleasing and completely original. Better yet, quite a few of the pieces in the store were built by the owner themself! I've been telling everyone I know about this place, and I plan to continue. Schedule an appointment. I got the groupon for cut and color and ended up having to go to other salon to fix my cut. I saw Amanda and she was the worst conversationalist and and gave the most basic haircut. I asked for layers and angles and she basically cut it straight across with no texturizing. I went to another salon and they made the cut look a thousand times better. I wouldn't recommend seeing her, otherwise the rest of salon seemed nice. read more
