Stopped here on our way to California. The ladies were very nice, even after I spilled my drink all over the counter and floor. We got a chorizo burrito and chilaquiles-delicious! The chorizo was so flavorful and not greasy. The burrito was huge and I'm pretty sure the tortilla was made fresh. The chilaquiles were excellent as well! Another big portion, the sauce was perfect red chile and the beans were a great side with it. Definitely recommend Sofias! read more

Visited for lunch on Sunday and had a great experience. The chips and salsa were tasty. I enjoyed the spice of the salsa, husband was not a fan. I ordered the Gorditas, one chicken, one carne asada. Husband ordered cheese enchiladas. Both meals were fresh and delicious. The rice was fluffy and the beans were a great texture. The ladies working were friendly and efficient. I am blown away! I stopped in the middle of no man's land because I was in the mood for a burrito since it's easy to eat in the car. I picked this place because it's my daughter's name but spelt with an F instead of a pH. I was so hungry that I put a random burrito together and now I literally want them to open this place next to my house in Laguna Beach! Let's just name it " the kitchen sink. " I ordered the bean and cheese burrito with potatoes and shredded chicken. I can't stop thinking about it. And the salsa, I wanted to go back and get a container of it! I ordered the fish taco and shrimp enchilada and recommend it. Refried beans and rice came with. All excellent. No dyspepsia/burping afterwards. Funky little spot with table service and outside dining. It was recommended to me by a local up in Arlington. Brisk to go service and I watched 10 orders in 10 minutes served at tables and OTD. Sit outside in the shaded dining area to watch the traffic go by. Beats the fast food joints down the road. A nice 911 memorial park is just east across the street and is also a nice spot to sit and eat. read more

Great food, great service. Stopped in aroubd 1830 on our way back from to the Valley. Placed our order (2 combination plates, drinks and a tamale) and it was in front of us within 10 minutes of when we sat down. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. Great little find in Gila Bend. Excellent service which felt like being at someone's home. Very comfortable seating as well as a large patio for the cooler months of the year. Everyone starts off with a warm bowl of chips and a large carafe of hot sauce. Their hot sauce does have a nice little kick which was unexpected. Definitely hit the spot. For lunch I had the #1 combination, Sonoran Enchilada served with rice and beans. The enchilada was made with a Gordita rather than tortillas. It's stacked with layers of meat (I chose ground beef), enchilada sauce and cheese. Ground beef was well seasoned and super tender while the sauce was smokey with a slight sweetness. My hubbies 2 Cheese Enchiladas were super tasty as well. Excellent refried beans too! Oh, and a cheese quesadilla! So crispy, so cheesy, slathered in salsa I mean come on, how can life get much better. If on your way to here or there, Sofia's Mexican Food is a great place to stretch your legs and fill your tummy with tasty eats! I had amtge breakfast burrito and my wife had French toast and bacon. My wife did not like the bacon because it was super crispy, but I thought it was really good. Staying the night here in Gila Bend and was recommended this place. Less than an hour from the border I figured the food here would be decent. It was better than that! The place is a small, 10 seat restaurant opposite side of the street from the tracks and about 0.5 miles from the truck stop (if you reach Burger King you've gone too far). Sitting down I was brought a basket of warm, fresh tortilla chips and a salsa with a slight kick. Some of the better chips and salsa I've had in awhile. Dinner was Sofie's Combo which included a chili rellano, cheese enchilada and a tamale wrapped in corn leaves. This was Mexican food the way I would imagine it being. The tastes of all three were great. The portion was plenty (even though something inside wanted more). The service was good and the prices reasonable. You can't rate this place for ambience. It is a simple, spartan restaurant with good food. The salsa is always a benchmark for me with Mexican restaurants, and Sofia's salsa is excellent. My first thought was that it was pretty bland, and then it started to do its work. My wife is not normally a salsa fan, but she really got into it, too. She had two ground beef tostadas. They were excellent. I had a bean and cheese burrito, which sounds rather mundane, but I would definitely order it again. It was big and full of wonderful refried beans. It is not a Taco Bell burrito. If you are passing through Gila Bend and looking for a place for a good meal this is a good option. It is not fast food. It is very good food. read more

My veggie burrito was prepared and quick. I was worried it would have those terrible cubed-frozen breakfast potatoes. But no, the potatoes had been made in house and gave the burrito some amazing creaminess with the perfectly seasoned beans. The kitchen looked sparkling clean. Omg this makes up for the Italian restaurant I went to last night. On the road back home, stopped at this little place. It is FANTASTIC. I got a 2 tacos and 1 tamal combo, and whoo, let me tell you, perfect proton for me. It is amazing, and the tamal really tasted like a tamal unlike other Mexican restaurants. The only complaint for the food is the fact that I pulled out something floppy from it, but eh, I just took it out and continued to eat it, didn't change the flavor or make it taste bad. The service is amazing, other than some issues with hearing her, but amazing. The ambiance could be cleaner, but this seems like an older building and it's kind of falling apart. I 100% would drive out here to eat again. read more
