First Impression: It looks like its closed, even their 'Open' sign was off and they have dark windows. They stop serving breakfast at 11am, no exceptions. It's a relatively small place with some booths and a couple of tables. They have high chairs (although I only saw 1). The restrooms are outside in a patio area (you can eat outside but there's no service there) and they are clean with a baby's changing station. We had the California Burrito which was ok... the tortilla was good but the meat was a little dry and was lacking spices, as well as the potatoes, added the salsa and it helped. Regular burrito size. We also got the Carnitas order... these were better than the burrito, not too dry, good flavor. The rice & beans were meh, I'd even say more on the not good side, just lacking flavor. The pico was fresh though. Service was pretty basic. Overall it is alright if you really want to stop at a restaurant instead of just the gas station but wouldn't be excited to come back. read more

Heading back from Tucson, we needed a lunch break, so Yelp reviews convinced us to stop at Sofia's Mexican Food. We were in a hurry to make it back to San Diego before dark, so asked if the food could be brought out quickly. It arrived just minutes after ordering, so that was fantastic. We even had customized the tacos (mine, no cheese) and sides (no rice for another guy), and they got it right the first time. The food was not gourmet, but it was still delicious. The service is good, there are three hard working ladies who are very nice. They give you chips and salsa when you dine in which is great, but the salsa has cumin... so if you don't like cumin, too bad, so sad. They don't have another fresh salsa option. I ordered a Carne Asada Torta with everything and it was delicious. My partner had the Carne (shredded beef) con Chile Rojo plate served with rice and beans, he did not like it. It was small, chewy, something unknown with veggies. The rice and beans were okay, ya can't mess that up! It was a plate of disappointment! We love this place! The food is so savory and delicious. The Chile relleno I had at Sofia's knocked out my all-time favorite of Scotty's Mexican Food in Pt Loma. It was part of the Sofia's Special which included a cheese enchilada, tamale, rice and beans. The enchilada was really good, too. At that point it was time for a takeout box for a Scooby snack later. I was craving Mexican food so as usual, I turned to Yelp to help me find a place in a new town. Sofia's was rated well so we gave them a try. I ordered the #8 two enchiladas, a tamale with rice and beans. I opted for one chicken enchilada and one carne asada, the tamale apparently came in one flavor since I wasn't given an option. The food came out on a small plate, a bit disappointing considering it cost nearly $12, but it looked pretty good. I started with the tamale, unfortunately, it was very dry verging on hard as a rock and it had no flavor. The enchiladas contained maybe a tablespoon of filling each and had little flavor, including the filling and enchilada sauce. The rice and beans were OK, but like everything else, they were very bland. The only saving grace was the tasty hot sauce that came with the chips, I used it on everything to add some much-needed moisture and flavor. Service was pretty good considering we were out on the patio. The patio was great to have since the dining room was small and it felt a little too warm in there to enjoy. Unfortunately, the other patrons on the patio were not too courteous, one guy yelling into his cell phone and a foursome talking as loud as they could all made for a less than a great dining experience. I will be looking for other options the next time I stay in Gila Bend. read more

This restaurant is located in an older building with low ceilings and a dark, stuffy feeling inside. We entered and immediately went out to the patio to eat. The waitress came out quickly and gave us menus and took our drink order. She was friendly and attentive. I ordered the seafood combo #1 with a fish taco, a shrimp enchilada, rice, and beans. My fish taco wasn't very good with too many onions in the pico de gallo, dried up breaded fish sticks slices, and no real sauce at all. They provided a lemon on the side which I definitely used to add flavor. The refried beans and rice were cooked well but didn't add too much to the meal. The shrimp enchilada was the star if there was one. The shrimp were plump, fresh, and plentiful. The enchilada sauce was ok. The prices were a little high for what we got. Went in a few days ago for lunch and my food was less than appetizing. I ordered 2 items off the al la carte options, a tostada and a gordita, both with ground beef. The hamburger was soaked and bland, which ruined the entire meal. Soaking the bread on my gordita and shell of the tostada is a no bueno for me. My friend ordered guacamole as a side and it was completely rancid. We mentioned it to our server and she said "oh yeah, it's terrible"....yet she still charged us for it, so we simply took that amount out of her tip. Food, awful. Service, just ok. Establishment, clean....and that's the only positive of our meal here, otherwise it only would have been 1 star. read more

We never pass through Gila Bend, AZ without stopping at Sofia's to eat, whether coming from or going to Rocky Point. The food is always so good, if the older woman (short hair/glasses) is there I would eat ANY dish she put in front of me without question!!! She knows good food!! However....be specific when ordering certain things, when Mami isn't around because the younger servers don't care about the customers as much and give shade/attitude, and make assumptions about customers. Today, our particular young lady server didn't acknowledge an older Mexican couple when they sat down ---and the couple left in frustration. I was pissed because I ordered cabeza tacos in uncooked (soft-no oil) corn tortillas and the server brought me carne asada in deep fried shells. Don't think I don't know my meats, b*tch!! She gave me sh*t about the deep fried shells, even though I had been extra careful and CLEAR when I ordered soft, corn tortillas, uncooked. She had the balls to tell me, "this is how it's ALWAYS served", which is BS. I eat here frequently, and I never get those. But THEN she brought me soft FLOUR tortillas...and then---heck yeah I did-- I made her go back and bring me CORN tortillas. And I held up the original ones that had been fully immersed in oil and fried and asked, "what part of this is a soft, uncooked corn tortilla??" And all she did was flip me attitude!! She never apologized or took accountability. But the most unfortunate part was that I didn't even bother brining up the fact that the meat was asada and not cabeza. It was a very sub-par experience. I ADORE cabeza and lingua....and this b*tch lied to me. I am a home chef and I know food, even if you think I look like an average idiot. Man, that pissed me off. Came into Gila Bend from Phoenix today on thw way home. Looked up food place and found Sofias. Glad we decided to go. The place was clean and had air conditioning. We were seated quickly. Chips and salsa was brought to our table and drink orders were taken. Salsa was not too spicy, but had some bite to it. On the table was a collection of hot sauces. Ordered tacos and a combination plate of enchiladas, rice and beans. All of the food came out hot and ready to devour. We didn't leave much on our plates at the end of the meal. We come by Gila Bend a couple times a year. Definitely on our list to stop here for food. read more

Small, locals restaurant with delicious food! We all ordered taco salads and were astonished and amazed at the both the huge portions, (especially of the meat in it) and the tastiness. It was a perfect mix of the meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and dollops of sour cream and guacamole. I asked for onion as well, and the server was happy to take care of my request.
