There are no words to describe the impact Sara, Shade, and their therapeutic practice have made on my life. I went to my first out of 6 IV infusions last August when I was frustrated that no antidepressants were working for me, and my anxiety was getting worse and interfering with my daily routine. Ketamine and Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) experiences I'm 50 and have been going through a bit of a "mid-life crisis" over the past few years, including divorce, family stress, health issues, and a general sense of wondering about purpose and my life. I researched Ketamine therapy extensively and decided to give it a try. Over the past few years, I have seen Dr. Sara 15 or so times for Ketamine infusions and have found them to be incredibly helpful in a variety of ways. I originally was going to do this online, as there are places that will send you the medication and you just take it yourself at home. I did an intake assessment at one of these leading providers, but decided that I'd feel more comfortable with an actual doctor present during the treatment, as I was frankly nervous about the whole experience given how totally new it was for me. I then looked at a number of clinics in the Bay Area and was going to go one near me with a pretty impressive seeming doctor "leading" the practice. Unfortunately, I learned that I would never meet the doctor and the Ketamine and my overall integrated treatment plan would be administered by a physicians assistant or nurse. I knew at this point that Ketamine was physically safe, but not having a doctor be designing and administering a program for me didn't seem at all like what I was looking for. I was also discouraged by how quickly they were willing to have me come in - they asked very little about my goals or how Ketamine may or may not help and were mainly focused on how quickly I could come in for my first infusion. I also looked into a few other clinics in the area that administer Ketamine in forms other than IV (nasal spray, lozenges, etc.), which it turned out would be sub-optimal for me given my goals and concerns. That led me to Dr. Sara and Soft Reboot Wellness. I spent a long session with Dr. Sara where she did a thorough review of my goals, described the process, took, my health and psychiatric/ psychological history, and approved me for therapy. I was nervous about what it would be like, and she took great pains to answer all of my questions and reassure me that the process was physically safe and that due to the fact that I was receiving the Ketamine via IV, we could stop and get me back to "normal" quite quickly if I didn't like the experience. She also did a great job of slowly ramping up the dosage over time, so my first infusion was relatively mild so that I got a real sense of what I was going to experience and could work with her to make it effective but not something that was anxiety-inducing or too intense. Her credentials also helped - not only the top tier schools, education, and experience, but also her years of acting as a cardiac anesthesiologist. So I felt really comfortable proceeding with the treatments. Her office is great, by the way, and that matters! A great zero gravity chair to relax in during the infusion, music and headphones to complement the experience, eye shades, and a general sense of peace and calm are all pretty important and she has taken great pains to create a great place that doesn't feel like some medical clinic but rather almost a spa. She monitors vitals and sits with you during the entire experience, and discusses before the infusion what a specific intention or intentions for the session are, then does a debrief afterwards, takes notes so that I don't forget what the infusion was like and what I was thinking and feeling, and sends that on so that I have a record to look back on. She also has a system to regularly follow-up on key indicators of anxiety, depression, and so on so that progress over time can be evaluated. Finally, she made great recommendations for additional integration and general therapists to complement the Ketamine treatment itself. I couldn't be happier that I found her and her clinic for all of the reasons above. I've found the treatments have really helped to ground me, make me less "over-reactive", and helped me work through my divorce, family and health issues, and other stresses with a much clearer sense of purpose and perspective. I generally feel happier, calmer, clearer, and safer after a session and have been going in for additional infusions about once a month. Her personal demeanor is also amazing. She is a medical, anesthetic, and Ketamine expert combined with a really nice and caring person. On another note, I recently did a Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) as I struggle with anticipatory anxiety and there's a lot of research that a single SGB can be really helpful in this regard. Since that treatment, I've noticed a meaningful reduction in this kind of unwelcome anxiety, including before some job interviews and work-related presentations where this has historically been a real issue for me. Ketamine reduces self-defeating thought patterns that the mind interprets as threats to what they really are: impotent, weightless thoughts born from the insecure ego. When reduced to their rightful size, these thoughts and fears can transmute into the trivial notions they are and then be easily discarded from the conscious mind. In turn, space and time are freed for much more productive ideas. From just one session, I gained empowering realizations that have altered my perspectives and decisions. I cannot put into words how my life has changed since I met Dr.Sara Herman and started treatments at Soft Reboot Wellness (SRW). I have struggled with BP2, anxiety and OCD for over half my life. I've had bad insomnia and anxiety for a while now, and have tried all manner of treatments each with various side effects. I recently read the book How to Change your Mind and got interested in alternative therapies, including ketamine infusions. There is now a lot of science and clinical evidence to support the use of psychedelic medicine for various mental health issues but the clinical practice has yet to catch up, at least on the Peninsula (ie there were very few providers who felt "legit" to me, and my therapist wasn't sure where to refer me). I was thrilled when Soft Reboot opened and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. Some items of note from my therapy to date: The doctor: I can't say enough good things about working with Dr. Herman. She's a rare combination of ridiculously credentialed yet very open minded to even practice this kind of treatment in the first place. She helped me feel super safe and comfortable and never left my side during the session (which I've heard is not always the case). She's also very tech forward so used patient tools that made the sign-up and communication process super easy. It was also clear she's up to speed on the latest science and ways to incorporate psychedelic treatments into an overall holistic approach to health.  The setting: I came to realize a serene setting is actually very important for this type of treatment since you enter a disassociative state so want to feel comfortable and relaxed. The clinic is in a nondescript medical campus but Dr. Herman's office itself is a little oasis, with serene decor, a luxe lounge chair, comfy eye mask, and headphones to listen to a music selection during the treatment. The music was personalized according to your intention for the session which I really appreciated.  The experience: This was my first time experiencing psychedelics in any type of environment, and I'll be honest it was a little crazy at first. I'm sure it's different for everyone but it in my case I felt disassociated from my body and experienced what I can only describe as an immersive art show inside my own personal Imax theater. But the entire time I knew that I was safe in the clinic with Dr. Herman so was able to relax and really lean into the experience, trusting that the treatment was doing its thing in the background. Apparently having an IV (vs a shot or nasal spray) meant more accurate dosage and shorter recovery time which I also appreciated.   Results: I'm only halfway through my six session treatment course but I've never slept better in my life and have seen real progress on the anxiety front as well (with family and friends commenting that I seem more calm). Again, I had previously tried a lot of different programs including cognitive behavioral therapy, so I'm pretty thrilled with these initial results and have not experienced any side effects. It's important to note that the treatment isn't inexpensive and is currently not covered by insurance, but I felt it was worth investing in something that would finally work for me (and ultimately help recover lost productivity, improve strained relationships, etc). I just completed 6 Ketamine sessions with Soft Reboot. This review is for the business as well as the therapy itself. I looked at quite a few centers to do this therapy and although there are numerous choices in the Bay Area, there were really no 2nd choices for me beyond Soft Reboot. Dr Sara, Dr Natasha and Shade all facilitated my treatment. All 3 are exceptional in multiple ways. I had breakthrough moments that would not have happened had it not been for the people involved.
