This is by far the best and my favorite place to get a massage. Everyone is extremely warm and friendly, especially the massage therapists. You leave feeling like you're on cloud nine. The massage therapists put a lot of love and care into each session and take the time to work out the areas you want to have more focus on. I have been visiting Soft Shell Day Spa twice a week for over two years. I have suffered from chronic neck and upper back pain for over 12 years. They do two 20 minute massages a week which gives me relief I never had with ANY western medical treatments. The staff and I have become friends and they provide great support in a warm and caring environment. My wife also goes for massage, make-up, and facials. Everyone was awesome here except for Michelle the owner. I came in to purchase a gift certificate for my mom and asked what facial she could get with a $60 gift certificate. I was asking the lady that was helping me and then the owner Michelle butted in and told me about a facial (botanical) that was $65 for 60 min but then when I wanted to put the gift certificate amount for that specific facial the owner Michelle said it was not available at this time! Umm contradicting don't you think? She seemed to be confused herself and not all their but acting snoody when she realized she wasn't making sense. I am an owner of a retail location and I do not treat my customers this way. The new girl who ended up helping me got it too when the owner told me that the new girl was over confident right in front of me and her! Are you serious? Treat your employees and customers with a little respect. Don't go there if you can. Avoid at all costs. Someone needs to put her in her place. read more

So, a bit reluctant to do a review as I love this oasis of serenity and don't want it to get crowded but...Absolutely adore Softshell .Have been enjoying now for many weeks . The positive experience starts from opening the door to this special place. The plants are a giveaway that this tiny island of gentle scents, delicious soaps , unusual gems and nifty jewelry and accessories , precious worry stones, extremely happy plants ( the kind I kill despite trying to make them comfortable ) and home goodies to make a more relaxing and tranquil space is a very magical spot within the vintage building. The goodies alone are worth a special trip. Just inhale .Lovely herbal misters infuse the air and relax the mind. ( I think the plants love it too ! ) Molly is my facial 'therapist'. The experience under Molly's healing hands is transformative. Easy to let go of the negative stuff bowing your shoulders and clouding thoughts. She is a great listener when I need to babble and very quiet and sensitive when I need zen time. I always leave refreshed and soothed . I am sure the massages are equally divine but there is something so relaxing about a facial .Especially with someone who bubbles gently. read more

So I got my wife a gift certificate for a stone massage (her favorite) and she made an appointment today to get one. When my wife got to Soft Shell the masseuse told her "I'm not gonna do anymore stone massages, I've done too many of them today." It's not easy for my wife and I to get time to ourselves, so my wife caved in and got a deep tissue massage. Never again will we go here and if anybody asks me about soft shell I'll be sure to tell them about this BS. read more

So far, I have only been Soft Shell once. It was a great experience. I was going g to a party for my husband's job and I woke up in the morning not feeling or looking my best the day of the party. We had a busy day ahead of us , with very little free time. I call Soft Shell in the late morning and was able to get an appointment an hour later for a 30 minute botanical facial with Claire. She did a wonderful job. It was relaxing and my skin felt and looked great afterwards and it made me feel better too and refreshed as well. Just had a wonderful massage from Samara here. I've had many decades of massages.....for all different reasons. This time it was post major surgery and thus needed to have someone who could do some heavier pressure, and deeper tissue work. Samara did a neuro muscular variation that helped with my joint range of motion. A new approach for me that left a wonderful and relaxing stress reducing overall feeling. She was sensitive to being a facilitator of a quiet session. My experience here will make me a return customer for her services! Ambiance of the place is quite old fashioned Victorian , soothing music and small but adequate space. They have several organic and chemical free lotions, soaps and candles as well in the front of the spa. I come up to peteluma monthly....and very glad I found this and samara, It was definitely great value compared to Silicon Valley and SF prices......and that is encouraging! read more

I recently moved to Petaluma and needed to find a new place to get occasional facial and massage. When I was ready for a relaxing spa day I booked an appointment. I got the deep pore cleansing facial and the luxury massage. Both were wonderful and I will definetly go back and try out some other treatments. I felt the pricing was fair. I Was out the door for less than 200.00 for both treatments and a few things from the shop. Everyone there was very nice and they have a great selection of in their gift shop. I went in for an eyebrow wax and a Relaxation Massage - I picked this place based on the great review from other yelpers. The services were okay, definitely worth it for the price. However, the front desk staff was awful! It was hard to get their attention to let them know I was there and then they were so frazzled by trying to figure out who my appt was with that the relaxation vibe was gone! Then when I paid afterwards, I made to feel really uncomfortable for leaving a generous tip. I was told what "most people leave" and had to convince her I wanted to pay the amount for FIVE MINUTES (it was only $5 over the normal BTW). Also, the whole eyebrow wax, the technician was trying to upsell me on facials and other services she offered, then when I was handed a cup of water after my massage, I got a card with her hours and services. I might go back just because their prices are reasonable, but I'll keep looking for something comparable in price and with a better atmosphere. read more

I've been getting waxed for 12 years. I give this place one star for getting me in last minute and using a high frequency machine on me after my waxing. However, my eyebrows have never looked worse. I've always had brows that people comment on for their perfect shape and fullness. I have a woman I go to regularly but I couldn't see this time. I needed to get in quickly because I have a flight to catch tomorrow to Germany. Well Claire has succeeded in leaving half of my hairs still on my face and having unbalanced eyebrows. I want to cry...I'm now going to have to go home and pluck away these leftover hairs and I'll have thin eyebrows just to balance this hack job...for the first time in my life. So so sad I can't believe someone could mess this up. I really have some of the easier eyebrows to work with and shape. I would have been better off spending half an hour plucking and shaping myself. read more
