After barhopping in the neighborhood, we were all craving some food --specifically chopped cheese. We found the nearest bodega, which was here. Our group ended up ordering a total of 6 chopped cheese ($11 each). The chopped cheese wasn't really chopped and was more like a burger in a subway sandwich form. Since I was so hungry, this did satisfy my craving but wasn't quite what I was expecting for chopped cheese. The food also took awhile to prepare, but at least they had some seats outside. read more

Ordered the cheeseburger deluxe..... They call and say they have no access to making FF, so they send home fries. ( not good at all) and I'm a home fries type person but these were just not to my satisfaction at all. I was in the city meeting some people and wanted a quick bite to eat. I didn't want anything to heavy because I was going to eat with these people later. I looked across the street and saw this Deli and went in. This Deli did not stand out or look special. It was just a Deli that you grab and go. The guy behind the counter didn't stand out either. I just asked for my egg salad and waited for it. I must say that that was real good egg salad, I really liked it. I would have gotten more but my associates showed up. STAY AWAY!!!! FROM THIS DISGUSTING RIP OFF!!! I was staying at a hotel around the block and ordered two roast beef sandwiches on a kaiser rolls with a quart of milk. They sent me a "half gallon" of milk and the sandwiches were the biggest rip-off ever because instead of putting the normal quarter of a pound of roast beef on the sandwich there were literally "TWO SLICES" of "OLD MEAT" on each sandwich!!! To which they charged me $8.00 for each sandwich!! If you want to be RIPPED OFF and get meat that looked like it had been sitting there for a month, then this is the place to go! read more

3.5 Stars For the most part, I'm partial to Brooklyn bodegas. Things are cheaper and they have more character. Fresh Food may be my favorite Manhattan bodega. They're open 24 hours, the guys working their are friendly, their prices are reasonable (for Manhattan) and they have good sandwiches. In addition to the usual suspects, they have about a dozen specialty sandwiches for $6. Some of my favorites include the Lincoln Tunnel (turkey, pastrami, cheese, carmelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and Russian dressing) and the Brooklyn Bridge (ham, peppeoni, salami, provolone, lettuce tomato, oil, vinegar, and sweet peppers). -1 Star for the lame candy selection. If Mounds and Almond Joy are the best non-Snickers candy bar option you have, you're in trouble. Their selection of chips leaves much to be desired and the beer selection is pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty average. read more

it's been like a year and half when I went here and since I didn't remember the name, I couldn't find it on Yelp at the time. I was flipping channels recently, caught a clip of some show about a fashion agency and noticed the lady had a bottle of Poland Spring water on her desk. That immediately kicked off some deja vu and I decided to see if I could find the place again because that was what I had bought there at 4am (we dont have Poland Spring out in CA). Sure enough someone had recently reviewed it. It's one of those seedy looking convenience stores that has a deli amongst all of your other normal convenience groceries. The grave shift has this really big but friendly Russian dude working. When you've been drinking all night and there's no other place to get a bottle of water, this joint becomes an oasis. read more

The guy fixing the sandwiches was super nice, thought it was a liiiiitle weird that I had to keep reading the ingredients to him (from the menu). Then one of the guys came in from his smoke break outside and my guy said "I got it". So, I gather he was new, or making the sandwiches wasn't his usual gig. Sandwich was fine. Just a regular bodega. HOWEVER, Mo, the friendly guy with a mustache like Mario runs the shiznit. He makes a killer cheesesteak on a hero with ketchup, mayo, and jalapenos. I haven't tasted philly cheeseteaks yet (but I will this weekend!), but the melted gooey cheese mixed up with the kicking jalapenos make for a nice solid snack/lunch/dinner/munchies. I see that there are a lot of good reviews on here, but I can't say the same. I just ordered a steak sandwich on a hero "with onions but no peppers please" to which he replied "no problem, no peppers". I got the skimpiest, terrible a steak sandwich and it was full of jalapeño peppers. For $7 I pretty much paid for a half stale hero roll, because It was more bread than anything else. This will definitely be the first and last time I ever eat here. Go to the TriBeCa deli next door, much better food and a decent buffet. I'll give it two stars because atleast I didn't find a hair in it. read more

Updated review. They raised all their sandwich prices by a dollar but didn't increase the portion sizes. No longer the best deal on the block. They still use non-Eco-friendly styrofoam to package all their sandwiches. Why is that necessary, just use paper! read more

Fresh Food Market and Deli is a rare experience in customer service! I contacted Mo from Indiana to schedule a breakfast deliveries for a seminar in NY. On the other end of the line I found a cordial, kind gentleman focused on customer satisfaction and a level of service that was astounding. Mo faxed menus and helped me plan for breakfast on 2 different days. When we had a catering glitch and needed lunch one day prior to our seminar, Mo came to our rescue. He encouraged me to make lunch choices that were delicious and economical, never overselling. (Rare in today's market) Fresh Food Market is a simple, small store, but when you walk in Mo's smile lights up the entire market. He treated me like family upon my arrival in NY and truly welcomed me to the city as if I were a long-time friend. I would not hesitate to recommend Mo and his store. He provides world class service, amazing food, and a customer experience that cannot be rivaled. read more

Ahhh... the hardware deli. I stumbled onto this place with a coworker when our usual place closed about 8 months ago. Since then, we've gone back almost everyday...mostly because of the group of guys that work there. They are truly the happiest bunch of guys you can meet. It makes the experience worth a lot. They are always ready with a smile and a very happy greeting. The chef is wonderful. He will custom order anything you like and is always ready with a suggestion if you're not sure what you're in the mood for. The rest of the crew are equally fun and just great people to be around. On top of the service... the food is really good and the prices are fantastic. They even have a frequent buyer program! Truly a great spot for a quality meal at any time. They should change their name to Fresh Cold or Fresh Mouth Market Deli Grocery. They billed me 13.50 for an order which is usually 12.25. I called the manager to tell him the delivery guy gave me an attitude about the price and that I thought I was being overcharged. The manager rang up the total which totalled 12.25 then had the nerve to tell me the delivery guy acted like he did because he was sick, as if that's an excuse to act rude when it's not, so not only was this delivery guy rude and working with a cold he could've given to me and/or others (the manager, other co-workers, and customer), he has a boss who thinks it's okay for a worker to act like a jerk because he's sick and possibly give a customer his cold. The manager also told me I'm outside their delivery area like he's doing me a favor by delivering to me when he's not, I told him that and that I'm done with his place, and he said fine. If you want your food delivered in a black plastic bag with a horrible chemical smell to the plastic by a guy who smells like a human ashtray, works with a cold, and acts rude because his boss is okay with it, order from this place. If you want better food with polite, grateful service order from TriBeCa Bagel Cafe a half-block away from this dump or Thompson's Finest Deli two blocks away, not these ingrates.
