It's not often you are introduced to a wine tasting list where each tasting is delicious. But just recently, we experienced this at Solena Estate! The grounds were beautiful, the interior was warm, with a snap-crackling fire in the fireplace, decorations, very Christmacy! We sipped our way through the entire wine list, with one or two additions along the way. Our guide, I believe her name was Alicia, was very friendly, informative and helpful. Solena Estate is one of those places that you just love coming back to for the vibe and the people who have created this amazing wine brand. The tasting room borders on large, it could an event space, and has a back kitchen, great patio overlooking a pond and rolling hills. The staff are super engaging and really know their wine. We were fortunate enough on this visit to have the daughter of the winemaker, and namesake of the estate - Solena - as our host on this visit! This is our second visit to this winery, really enjoyed the hospitality and the entire vibe. The space is a bit on the larger side, so on busy weekends, you can totally see getting overwhelmed by the crowds. The wine is definitely some of the better you'll find in the area. Very much a classic French style wine, with a few nice surprises in vintages crafted by the winemaker who knows what he is doing. The wines are produced in batches that are larger, say 1000 cases, so they can have a more mass-produced feel and taste, but they still have a small vintner's technique evident in their finish. Generally on the more expensive side, there are some great values and unique finds to be found on the library list, and be sure to score one of the 2020 Blanc de Blanc while it lasts. It's a unique sparkling wine scrubbed of the smoke taste from the wildfires of that year through the age-old milk clarifying process. Just brilliant on the part of the winemaker! read more

Soléna Estate is definitely worth checking out on your next visit to the wine country. Since moving to McMinnville four years ago, my wife and I have visited more than 30 wineries. While we've enjoyed many wonderful tasting experiences, our visit to Soléna Estate last week ranks as one of the best. The wine, ambiance and hospitality were all five-star. The tasting room is very comfortable and relaxing; we settled into the sofa and soaked up the warmth of the wood-burning fireplace. We tasted a variety of wines, including chardonnay, chenin blanc, pinot noir, syrah and cabernet. All were excellent. The highlight of the experience, however, was our visit with Alicia, the winery's hospitality specialist. She was very congenial, knowledgeable and entertaining ... the perfect hostess. Needless to say, we joined the wine club and are looking forward to attending some of the winery's upcoming events. read more

We made a morning weekday reservation for our visit to the Willamete valley since it was close to our Airbnb. Our host was wonderful and provided us a lot of information about the winery and the AVA. Their Syrah was one of my all time favorites for the varietal and their Pinot 828 was also fantastic. Would recommend to stop into for a visit. read more

Love this beautiful winery in Willamette Valley and their amazing wines! We did a tasting and enjoyed every single one, which is not usually the case. Their Chardonnay was buttery and smooth; I'm a big fan and typically I only drink big, bold reds so that's saying something! Solena often hosts dinners pairing each course with the perfect wine to compliment and enhance. Once the pandemic passes, I hope they offer these again. The food and wine is incredible! What sets this vineyard apart is the huge tasting lodge. You enter through gorgeous, carved wooden doors into a massive space basked in natural light bouncing off the white walls. Wooden beams and accents warm up the space without making the room feel closed in. There is a huge bar to the left, which is where we sat for our flights. And comfy chairs, tables with games, and a large fireplace to the right where you can sit and just chill with some fabulous wine. The outside has spectacular views of the vineyards, lake and even goats which are always fin to watch! There's lots of comfortable seating and a fireplace. The atmosphere is very casual and welcoming. Solena allows you to bring your own snacks so on a gorgeous day, this is the place to be! Service was friendly and knowledgeable while letting us enjoy our wine and conversation at our leisure. Love visiting Solena and will definitely be back again and again. read more

Loved this beautiful winery and the wines here are my Willamette Valley favorites. The vineyard is gorgeous and the tasting room is like an adorable lodge with a big fireplace, cozy furniture, games, and super friendly employees. We stopped at Solena on a wine tour and though it was only our second stop, I wished we could have just spent the entire afternoon here. Some wineries were fancier and a little snooty for me, others were busier and obviously popular with the young crowd but Solena Estate was just right. The wine and the setting were both absolute perfection. We had a lovely spot on the deck overlooking the vineyards and a lake with goats roaming around. The tasting really surprised me with a chardonnay I actually really loved. Not typically a fan of this white wine, but the Solena Estate chardonnay was like no other. Smooth, buttery, soft, pleasant tasting and refreshing, so you know I went home with a couple of bottles. They also allow picnics here so our tour guide brought us a lovely picnic tray of meats, cheeses, olives, and other good wine accompaniments. The pino noir is also a favorite wine here with just the right notes of a lush but light red. My husband, who was a good sport joining us on the tour since he is not a wine drinker, was offered other beverages. They had a range of beer choices and just allowed him into the kitchen to select one. He selected a local "Pub Beer" lager. Such an amazing experience here, this is the one winery in the area I am envious our local family will become regulars at and the one I will visit each time I visit them. Bonus, I actually found the award winning Pino Gris from Solena at my local Total Wine store, so I may not get to enjoy the setting as often as I would like, but I can absolutely enjoy the wine at home in Florida. read more

This establishment discriminated against my cousin, a woman of color, who had a confirmed reservation for 2 on their outside patio. The host claimed there was no reservation and no seating on the patio and could "only offer" indoor seating. After they were seated, two white women came in, asked for outside seating and got it! A couple days later the owner/ manager gave a half- assed apology and never acknowledged the blatant discrimination, the host/waiter that lied about the reservation and the unacceptable behavior displayed by their employee. I don't know about you, but I would never give my money or business to an establishment that condoned this behavior. There are plenty of other wineries that are better than that place! NO TO SOLÉNA! read more

I went here today to try out their wines. I really liked their Pinot Noirs and their Merlot wasn't bad either! I bought a Syrah, though I didn't get to taste it, for I was curious! Beautiful winery. I guess that they will be moving up the hill in April, so I'll be curious to see their new digs at some point. First of all Grand Cru Estates is not to be confused with Solena's Estate tasting room located in downtown Carlton, this is their new production facility located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The property is visually stunning; whenever I go it seems they have taken every measure to have the grounds manicured upon your arrival. The winery is surrounded by over 80 acres of vineyards most of which are Pinot Noir. One of the first things you may notice are large solar panels situated out front as this green winery utilizes many natural resources. The building itself is artfully constructed using natural textures of wood and stone. Inside they have taken a more rustic approach using beamed ceilings, iron work and touches of marble. The tasting room adjoins the banquet area and production facility featuring floor to ceiling windows and 360 views of the property. The banquet hall is surrounded by French doors which look out to an outside patio and accented by a large stone fireplace. You may even get a chance to tour their production room which has an almost see-through mesh screen and large polished stainless steel fermentation tanks. The place is spotless every time I go! Solena produces some great wines with an incredible attention to detail and small yields. They specialize in Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, I just tasted the new 2010 release of Gris and was surprised by the amount of fruit it showed. Sometimes this varietal can feel very acidic or tart but this vintage was more luscious with apple, pear and white peach fruits and while still acidic it complimented the fruit well. Solena features many different types of Pinot Noir each sourced from a different vineyard and with its own character but solid price points. Bolder wine drinkers will be happy to know they also produce a Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet and Syrah. They source this fruit from Applegate Valley which is a much hotter and drier climate therefore producing sharper more pronounced fruits with added complexity. Unfortunately these are often not sampled in the tasting room but I splurged on a glass of Zin which was soon followed by a bottle purchase. It had an explosion of fruit filling your mouth with ripe blueberries; a slight tartness from black cherry, anise and finally black pepper, the mouth feel was nicely weighted and smooth. Oh and I almost forgot, they have a fabulous late harvest Riesling which finishes spicy like a Gewurztraminer. So even if you're familiar with their Carlton tasting room I suggest you go visit the Grand Cru Estate to get the full Solena Winery experience read more

In case you weren't in the know, pre-Memorial Day weekend is the new Memorial Day weekend in wine country. All the wineries seem to have something special going on to make the locals/regulars/members happy. We stopped by Solena after leaving Willakenzie on our way to Dundee, as it looked like it was calling our name. And it was indeed. Because it was a special weekend they had tons of staff on-hand talking about wine in not only the tasting room, but they had barrel tastings and let you sip wine while you went through the area where they sort the harvest. Very informative, up until you couldn't process the intricacies of winemaking because you'd had too much wine. I say that for a friend, of course. The service was spectacular, the wine was damn good, and I really dig that they are committed to being organic and biodynamic. The bottle prices ranged from average to above. BUT the best part was, and I hate to let this out... the tasting (at least on this special weekend) was free. Are you kidding?! Nothing in wine country is free, my friends! Not only were the over a dozen tastes free, but they had delicious nibbles being cooked in their own kitchen for patrons to eat. Blown away by the whole experience, really. We will be back. We were driving through wine country last weekend, and passed Solena, but then decided to go back and give it a try. We always like going to new wineries, not just our tried and true ones. Maybe there is a gem out there we know nothing about. Solena was having a pre Memorial Day weekend, and having free wine tastings, always a treat. We started outside with a taste of very chilled and delicious Pinot Gris. While we were drinking that we got an introduction to the winery, and then we went downstairs for some barrel tasting. All very yummy. After barrel tasting, we went upstairs to the actual tasting area, where they had more of their yummy wines, and also some food pairings, which were delicious, also. They had homemade meatballs and some seared ahi tuna, still free. I feel fortunate to have been able to taste their wines and see the beautiful countryside and facility, and would definitely go back. read more

On Saturday I scheduled a patio tasting at Soléna Estate and received an email confirmation. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door. I stated we had a reservation and he looked around. There was one open table for 6 that we could see. There were only two of us. I was told that table was booked. He said we could sit inside. There were no other customers sitting inside. Approximately 10 minutes later 2 ladies walk in. Another individual greeted them, looked around and said would you like to sit outside. They broke the 6 person table up and sat them outside. I asked why they were able to sit outside and he stated, "They booked last week." I have never been discriminated so blatantly like that. We decided to leave. Today I received a call from Anthony claiming to be the President of Soléna. He apologized and said the other people booked the day before. Funny how the story changes. He offered a tasting for free. I declined and explained how he completely missed the point of discrimination by his staff. Very sad! I was looking forward to their wines since the last time we were there was over 2 years ago. This place has a new tasting room! This is a classic wine tasting experience with a big, open hospitality space and an awesome view of vineyards and rolling hills. The tasting fee is $15 but they waive it when you buy enough wine. It's easy to like the wines here. I came in the late afternoon on a weekday. The staff was eager to pour wine and educate me on all things Solena. The tasting had a wide variety of wine, not strictly Pinot Noir. The zinfandel and cabernet are a nice addition to the chardonnay and multiple pinot noirs. read more

I visited this winery last week with a friend who is a member of their wine club. We had an amazing time. The tasting room is beautiful here but we chose to sit outside because it was a warm fall day. The outside area is also very comfortable with outdoor couches and tables. This winery allows you to bring your own picnic food so we set up outside. The woman pouring wine that day was very personable and we felt like we were getting our own private wine tasting! She would come outside to give us new pours every 20 minutes or so. They specialize in pinot noirs here so if you are a white wine drinker there isn't much variety (they do have one Chardonnay). In addition to setting up a winery tour and surprise video, they helped us select wine that would become part of the engagement! We purchased a quarter barrel, and were allowed to pick three different Pinots. They helped us from to labeling, to bottling, to TTB approvals, to shipping, and made it very approachable. Where to start.... This was our first stop and by far the best. Lisa, the tasting room host, exceeded expectation at every level. She was knowledgeable about Pinots. Knowledgeable about Soléna the history and certainly the wines. Most of all she was/is a spectacular host. Second to Lisa and her skills was the view. We happen to visit the winery two days after a big snow. We had the best of sunny skies and snow white fields. We hope to return and we hope Lisa is our host. Lovely people! Delicious pinots, and the best pinot gris I've had. It actually changed my opinion of the varietal. The staff were more chatty and engaged than at other estate wineries (where staff seem more reserved). Their display of companion plants for pest control was interesting, though it could be expanded. I am still unclear about biodynamic practices, but the final "proof" is in the glass. They are doing something special here. read more

I didn't love the white wines but the reds were pretty good, especially their Zinfadel and Washington sourced wines. Their Pinots were okay but not great.
