We came here as a group. I think my friend had tasting cards so that all of us got our tasting flight comped. I hadn't been to this particular winery before. It sits on a hillside with the fields of grapes splayed out before you. It's beautiful. It's literally Utopia. I wish that it remained a utopian experience. I don't know about you but I expect excellent service while at a winery. This time when we visited Utopia, albeit our tasting flights were comped, their goal at the end of the day is to get you to buy a bottle(s) or become a wine club member. So when I go limping in and ask the man behind the counter if he can recycle my glass bottle he says yes he can but then as I approach him he tells me I can just go ahead and take it outside to the white bin. From this interaction I left the tasting room and the winery host and that the winery host with the strong sensation of sour grapes. The host arrived with very good timing just as most of us had finished off our first pour which was as I recall a very fruity, like and alcohol fruit salad served very chilled. It was actually quite good. Next came three Pinot noirs. I typically do not care fore Pinot noir wines, But I will usually find at least one Pinot that pleases me. This was no exception. The first Pinot in our flight was ok. I was the wine list showed only our tasting flight. The second Pinot was a delight, it was full flavored and peppery, such a nice surprise. The last Pinot I don't think anyone liked. On to the Chardonnay. It was described to us as being aged in first oak, and then stainless steel. We came to Utopia Vineyards for a wine tasting. We were met by Erin Warnshuis. Erin is Dan Warnshuis oldest daughter, who is the owner of Utopia Vineyard. She handles hospitality for Utopia. She is the marketing, tasting room and wine club manager rolled into one. She had several nice wines for us to try and we had an amazing experience there. We tasted a vertical flight of different vintages and my wife and I both liked the 2017 Estate Pinot Noir and of course the 2017 "Paradise" Estate Reserve. read more

We tasted Different vintage of Pino Nor, could tasted huge different between 2016 and 2015. All grapes are made at his estate and organic certified. I also loved Grenache which their grapes come from Eastern Oregon but nice body and some combination of fruit and tanning gave a lot of complex flavors. Great wines! Love love love their Viognier every time! I also like their reserve Pinots (duh). They are a great part of the Ribbon Ridge AVA loop and a place I will stop every time I am in the area. The patio is really lovely. Comfy wine barrel chairs, plentiful umbrellas, and two really well-made bocce courts. A beautiful view on the top of the hill to boot. His tasting room is small, but cozy. Utopia is a great winery in the Ribbon Ridge area of the Willamette Valley region. Utopia is located on a beautiful hillside with vineyards all around and nice views. Utopia is a casual, informal tasting room where we were able to talk directly to the winemaker, an interesting guy who worked in Silicon Valley in a past life, and successfully left to pursue his real passion for winemaking. Now, he's creating some very tasty wine, and as he pointed out to us, his 2008 Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge ended up on Portland Monthy's, "50 Best Oregon Wines" list with a 95 rating. Not too shabby. What made this a good tasting experience was that unmistakably homey feel: mellow, friendly dogs walking the grounds, the winemaker hanging out in the tasting room talking about his work, the friendly banter and some enjoyable wines. read more

During our visit to Portland, we asked our AirBnB host for winery recommendations. She said of all the wineries in the area, she was only a member of Utopia and recommended their rose. Of course, we had to check it out! This was my favorite winery we visited by far. It's small and far less crowded than some of the more well known wineries. The owner, Daniel, gave us our tastings and shared some great tips on how to learn more about wine and wine tasting. I'm not usually a fan of white wines or dessert wines, but I really enjoyed both of them at Utopia. I was impressed with every wine we tasted. Yes. This is what tasting in the Willamette Valley is all about. Roots style. There's nothing fancy schmancy about this little tasting room. It's small and humble. But the wines are well worth every sip. These folks are making some solid purp as well as some whites. And they're selling them for pretty damn reasonable prices when you get right down to it. Make the drive up here and enjoy a flight served up by the winemaker's family. Sit on the patio (on a nice day) and they'll bring your tastes out to you. Start with the DNA white and the Pinot Noir Rose. Move on to a flight of their pinots... you'll probably get to taste multiple vintages of the same winery block. I'll be wiling to bet you're impressed by one or the other. They even have a dessert wine. Know that your dollars are going to winemaking, not some crazy expensive chateau that's designed to show off. This ain't big-money Napa shit. Truth. read more

Looks are deceiving with this place. It looks like you are going to someone's house, but keep going and you will reach a small, but charming little tasting room. Fantastic place!!! The owner takes such pride in what he does and he has so much fun with the guests. He stays open until 6 because he doesn't want to be just like all the rest. You feel like you've been invited to a small party when you go for a tasting. There are tables on the porch and bacci courts and he has events several times a year. If I lived closer, I'd be there. And the wine is amazing! They even have a great Chardonnay, which is my go to usually and the owner also loves Chardonnay. We chose this vineyard to visit as part of our weekend adventure (from Seattle area) because of Dan's website & descriptions. We were sorely disappointed by our experience there. He told us to go find a place to sit & then brought out wines in mason jars. That was the last engagement we had with him! He never checked on us, explained any of the wines, nothing! Our first stop in the Willamette Valley was Utopia. We were absolutely blown away by the first wine we tasted -- Viognier -- who knew? And every wine after that was just really wonderful. You can tell that Dan puts so much thought into what he produces to just create the most balanced, approachable, enjoyable wine. There is absolutely no pretense here. We were also very pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced these wonderful wines were -- being accustomed to the exhorbitant price of pinot noir at the store. My husband and I belong to several wineries in the area, and absolutely love ribbon ridge. This AVA is incredible. Unfortunately our experience at Utopia was very unenjoyable and I will never return. We arrived around 2pm and were the only tasters there. It was our first stop and we were very respectful, and intended to buy a bottle or two. The owner was serving and was so rude to us I was shocked. My husband asked a question about the vintage and Daniel responded with only one word answers. Tasting room not the greatest, but I am only rating the wines (that's the important thing). Pinot Noir decent compared to other Pinots in the area but not very impressive e.g. not well balanced, not remarkable, nothing to write home about. However the Lecosse Malbec 1997 pretty darn good. 1997 Lecosse Cabernet Frank pretty darn good too. The latter have good nose, lots of layering, keeps your palate entertained. Utopia is a wonderful boutique style winery in the heart of Dundee wine country! I visited here with a group of friends in August and it was an amazing stop! It has a charming new tasting room, and wines to match! Dan the owner and wine marker himself was behind the counter to give us the low down on all of his wines he was pouring! We had a lovely conversation about how he got into wine making and some of his new wine releases. For being such a small boutique winery and fairly new, he had a large array of wines including some great whites, Pinots, and a late harvest Viognier! Walked away with an amazing 2010 Pinot, late harvest Viognier and a Rose. Utopia gives you a great example of superior quality wines from the Willamette Valley. Do not order wine from Utopia. Four weeks after paying a few hundred to have wine delivered to my mom's house, the correct order is still not here. The wrong order was sent and then Utopia called and harassed my mother while she was on vacation, never apologizing for the mix-up but instead demanding that she return the incorrect shipment immediately despite her not being at home. The wrong shipment was not picked up on the agreed upon day and the correct shipment has yet to arrive. The incredibly rude treatment of my mother was inexcusable. read more

I want to start by saying I understand wineries aren't made for kids but the owner made us feel very unwelcome by saying things in a very impolite manner. We had kiddos with us and we were happy to find an outdoor space away from the main area so we could enjoy some wine. I had a best friend in town and live in Yamhill County so after seeing so many wineries she really wanted to try one out. I did some research trying to find an outdoor venue with a view and was excited to show her such an amazing space. We sat as far away from others we could and bought a glass each so we didn't have to go back in to taste. The owner quickly walked up to us and said- don't scratch the corn hole set I spent several hours making it and walked away. The kids were walking around the boche ball area and we were very careful to not allow them to be loud or cause any damage to the court. He then came out to tell us that the granite in the court was 1400 dollars and they should stay out. I am not asking for you to entertain my children but politeness goes a long way. read more
