Just to start, I'm a gal - so perhaps unusual to go to a barber shop, but lately I've found that its a best kept secret for ladies with short hair that need a cut often and don't want to pay up to $200 at a salon. Isaiah was assigned to me, and I will now always request him! I have a choppy pixie cut that needed a big trim, and he not only did that, but expertly texturized the top and paid VERY close attention to the sides and back. Amazing! This review is for Armando only, specifically his customer service. I was satisfied with his work, and had been a client for almost a year. I had a very unpleasant/unprofessional interaction with him. My last haircut, there was a small section of hair that was left too long, not matching the other side. I called to come back in and get it fixed, haircut on Sunday, came back on Friday (I'm busy working during the week, this was the soonest I could come in). He was waiting for me outside and started accusing me of trying to scam him out of a free haircut, this is without even asking what I wanted fixed or what I wasn't happy with. I never even asked for anything free. It was shocking and insulting. I was about to just leave right then, but I paid for a haircut and should be satisfied and happy with how my hair looks. I told him to wait until he actually sees what I'm even asking for. He fixed it with a few snips with the scissors, didn't touch any other part of my hair, because the rest was fine, just like I said. I paid for it, so I wouldn't have to hear anymore whining about me stealing anything. I will be finding a new barber, one who values their clients. Keeping happy clients should be the focus, not their own pride or ego. read more

What a refreshing and welcomed change has happened to Solana Center on W. Alameda Street. Ryan Friday is 'da absolute BOMB! He knows barbering better than the best barbers we see on YouTube or in famous places. He is courteous, quick, thorough, and gives you the very BEST haircut. He can wield a razor for the most precise razor fade you can get. People I've recommended to Ryan have been very happy with their cuts. The last razor fade I got from him was before COVID. I soon will go back to Ryan because I have not had a haircut on almost a year. Great job to NEW OWNER and Barber Extraordinaire Jude Vigil for opening up this 2nd location of Center Barber Shop f/k/a Solana Barber Shop! Was visiting Sante Fe and desperately needed my winter mountain shag mowed down...saw Solana sign and darted in. They took me right away, gave me an A+ cut and were super funny and delightful to be around. Definitely the place to go in Sante Fe! Bad Attitude. I asked for a haircut. Guy wouldn't even turn towards me to talk to me. Place had one chair in use and 2 barbers. He said (back turned to me) that it's appointment only. It's a $15 haircut, so you have to take that into consideration. the elderly gentleman on the far end of the chairs can't cut hair at all, so if you get him, make sure you're satisfied before you leave. He also takes forever. The woman at this barber shop is the best. She remembers older haircuts she's given, and is totaly on top of her game. The owner, and guy giving haircuts at the first chair is relatively decent as a barber, but tends to get distracted by the locals who come in and stare at you while you're getting your hair cut... 80% of the time he gives a decent cut. read more

I've been very disappointed by the haircuts I've received here. Both Raoul and James cut my hair very short, leaving no room for styling or spiking of my hair even though with Raoul I specifically requested that he leave the front long. The third guy(the one most inside), who's name I don't remember, did a good job. When I came back another time to see that guy, he ended up taking forever with another client. So I couldn't wait anymore and decided to give Raoul another chance. This time he left the sides much longer than what looked good compared to the front. When I asked him to take more off the sides and corners he did so grudgingly with a negative attitude each time. Ultimately, he did a rough job with the sides and corners and did not blend the corners well at all. The haircut did not look good overall at all. On top of that when I tried to chat with him he flat-out ignored me. At the end he didn't even make eye contact when I tipped him. I will never go back to this barber shop under any circumstances. read more

The older gentlemen was cracking jokes and being very friendly as my son sat in his chair, which set us both at ease. He then offered me some coffee which I thought was a nice touch. I didn't have an appointment, but I only had to wait about five minutes for my turn. The barber took his time, paid attention to all the details, and gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. Just got back from getting a pretty good hair cut. Only two people working at the shop today, a Saturday. Saul and a lady. Saul takes walk ins and the Lady is by appointment only. I called ahead and was told to just come on in. I got Saul. The hair cut was good and the price is very reasonable. I paid $20, that is $15 plus a $5 tip. I would have given a higher rating but I ended up having to wait over 2 hours. Saul works slow and will not be rushed. There was only one person ahead of me. So if time is not an issue this may be ok, free newspapers and even a Scientific American managzine. read more

I usually just shave my own head, but decided it was time to "clean up"; I did not have to wait and 'the older gentleman' mentioned in other reviews cut my hair. It's a great haircut and he is awesome!
