I left Solano's tonight feeling incredibly disappointed! We were informed by the waiter on arrival that this was the first Peruvian restaurant outside of London so I was expecting great things....sadly Solano's didn't deliver! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful offering their own suggestions from the menu and all were knowledgeable about the food on offer hence the two star rating. That's where the compliments end. The prices were very steep. You're looking at around £12/13 for a main which isn't so bad when the quality is great but sadly the lamb although tender was rather dry and bland and the calamari wasn't anything worthy of its price. All in all the food was mediocre but at a cost and so my friends and I wouldn't be in a rush to return! The decor and ambience seems to be a bit confusing too....lots of vibrant colours like yellow and blue but overall it appears to me like it's not sure what it's meant to be! Friendly cafe or elegant restaurant?! The atmosphere was also lacking as it was very quiet which I thought was unusual given its relatively new status! I'm hoping it's just early days and therefore the quality of the food may improve but to be honest when you can get such good value elsewhere I'm not sure I would give it another try anytime soon! read more
Brand new and shiny Peruvian restaurant, seemingly only the first one outside of London, our waiter informed us. Good choice on the menu though no guinea pig I have to say! I had the lamb and it didn't look a huge serving but pleasingly turned out to be very filling, I'll be back to try the seafood. read more

Been to a few Peruvian restaurants in London and was happy to find one in Newcastle as well. Food was very tasty indeed and staff friendly and attentive. Will be back when in town! read more

Solano's specialises in Peruvian cuisine, serving classic favourites including Ceviche, Papa a la Huancaina and Pisco Sours. Our aim is to offer a unique dining experience bursting with adventurous Peruvian flavours. Peruvian food is all about diversity and fusion, taking elements from indigenous cuisine and modern cooking techniques. It is this unique element that has made Peruvian restaurants such a hit with British audiences. We serve a range of seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes in a relaxed Latin American environment. Enjoy the very best that Peru has to offer, right here in the North East!
History
Established in 2015.
Solano's opened its doors in June of 2015 as the only Peruvian restaurant in all of the North East. Named after famed Peruvian professional footballer Nolberto "Nobby" Solano, who has strong connections to Newcastle following his time with NUFC. Joint owners Chris Levee, Alfonso Yanez and Linda Deacon opened Solano's with the aim to offer the people of the North East a unique dining experience with a South American ambience.

This restaurant is a little gem in Newcastle, slightly hidden behind St Nicholas Cathedral and in the shadow of Black Gate Tower, Solano's shows itself right in the middle of the two most popular scenic attractions of Newcastle and holds the secret of the finest Peruvian cuisine right here in the North East. Solano's is the only Peruvian restaurant outside London which can be highly commended as London's strongest competition now as Peruvians all over the North East and many from London are now regulars at Solano's, its amazing how things have changed in the short time they have been in the city ... 1 year this month, and achieved 109 on trip adviser with four and a half credits .. amazing .. a lot of credit is given to the well organised and knowledgeable staff that is there now and obviously the head chef Alfonso who is a true and genuine native Peruvian who cooks and presents his food as a fine piece of art. Once visited you are instantly hooked with the blend and texture of the food, the unique flavours and delicate spices that allow you to savour for the rest of the evening. Solano's almost certainly will be the most popular restaurant in the North, and truthfully I don't think its far away now. read more
