This has been my go-to workout since moving back to DC. I lived in West Hollywood for over a decade and started doing Lagree after a terrible knee injury. I was a longtime runner, Barry's Bootcamp, and Cross Fit enthusiast -- all of which destroyed by body and left me injured more than in shape. Lagree Pilates and Solidcore are a full body workout and exactly what I needed. There is zero impact on the joints and each movement is slow and in control. You also majorly get the heartbeat pounding and I find myself a sweaty mess like I did in those other fitness routines. Solidcore's approach isn't always my favorite (the trademark language and constant soundtrack of the instructors). If I had to pick, I prefer Lagree's approach more but hey, I'm just grateful to have this workout in DC. read more

I have been going to solidcore for years, and it's a great workout. But as many have said, it has some really bad policies that come with it that don't have the client in mind AT ALL. so I am going to leave it and hope others consider the same: 1. Expiration policy on classes is VERY short - this means that if you get a VERY EXPENSIVE classpack but say get sick or have to travel, there's zero flexibility to get an extension. Pretty tone deaf given we just went through years of a pandemic. 2. There is NO HUMAN to be found to help with any questions on classes/memberships, you just email some general account and someone with no name sends you boiler plate marketing. 3. VERY EXPENSIVE It all just leaves a very unpleasant taste in your mouth and there are too many other fitness options where you are treated like a human and where you can get a great workout. read more

I've taken two classes and boy do they burn. And I mean almost immediately. I've taken classes at both the West End and Adams Morgan locations. The most recent class I took was Full Body with Stefania at Adams Morgan. She was a great instructor. She was motivating and helpful given the different levels in the class...ahem, including me being fairly new. The exercises are the classes are not easy at all even when I'm at my most fit. As a group exercise fan, Solidcore is a very effective workout and a good value...especially if you take advantage of the packages and/or Classpass. The facilities are nice and clean, the music playlists are great and encouraging instructors. Sometimes there are even opportunities to meet other class goers for social outings. Facilitating Community outside of the studios, especially in the city is an added bonus. You can also get drinks if you've left your water or if you want to drink a Celsius. Lockers are available so that's helpful especially when you're on the go. Depending on the time, parking can be hard to come by given street parking, especially the Adams Morgan location. I have taken classes when I'm in the DC area to visit but I'm hoping they bring a Bay Area location soon! read more

For someone who mediocrely plays plenty of sports, solidcore became another great way to exercise and it really kicks my butt. Reason my rating isn't a 5 is the classes are a bit expensive. I've been lucky to get a couple good package deals but eventually, I'll have to consider the cost. Also, they incorporate fun monthly/seasonal challenges such as if you come 4x a week, you can win a free class by raffle. However, all their challenges benefit extraordinarily fit people (not me). I would need at least 3 days to recover from one class. My favorite instructors in no order are Erin seaboyer, erin darbouze, and dimple manghani. Justin is good too but he moved to the U st location :/ If you're really lucky (or unlucky), the instructor for a class you signed up for weeks in advance will change to the CEO and she will absolutely kick your butt--none of the "if you've been to less than 15 classes, one grey" it's "everyone can push." It is no joke how sore you get. One last story that did not affect my rating because it's kind of my own fault but after I went to a class, my legs felt like jello and I was walking downstairs and my leg hyperextended lol (again, I'm not one of those super fit people) so yea, you've been warned. read more

This is by far my favorite workout, EVER! It is extremely challenging and pushes you to your limits; however, you will see results. All of the instructors are very nice and helpful. They help motivate you throughout the class and make sure that you have the proper technique. I usually go to the Shaw location; however the Adams Morgan location is also great. I recently told a class here with the founder, and boy did she kick my butt! It was so challenging, but I loved every minute of class. The music selections are good and the instructors countdown the time to help you mentally get through the workouts. There is also a nice group vibe, you introduce yourself to your neighbor, and the instructors know everyone's names. The small size is nice and intimate. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone looking for a nice challenging change from their routine. read more

Im not sure what kind of spell they put on me but I did my first class last week. My out of shape body was dying all through class, Yet here I am going back in just a few hours... Upon reflection, I think my return to torture can be chalked up to a few important aspects of my experience. 1) Charly was the manager and instructor that day. She went out of her way to take care of me as a newbie. She texted ahead of time, spent some extra time w me before class, was welcoming, encouraging and made me feel ok about being there even though totally out of shape. She was a great instructor, helped me through class, was ok with me taking breaks and gave me a big high 5/hug after class. Awesome customer service! 2) although it literally took me a week to recover, I feel like my body woke up! I feel a little bit stronger and that feels awesome! They recommend 2-3 times per week but since it took my body 1 week to recover, im going to start out with once per week. Just listening to my body. 3) there is a company culture of getting to know people. I liked that. This adams morgan location is a short walk from home and that encouragement of community was nice. 4) the studio was great! Beautiful use of space, good music, nice reformers. 5) the girlfriend i went with needed some fuel before class. They have a nice system of creating an account for you that you can charge classes and other items too. My friend got an organic protein shake that she enjoyed. She just signed a paper above the fridge. Streamlined touch that I liked. 6) they gave me welcome rates on my first 2 classes and followed up with an intro deal on a 5 pack. I nearly cried squatting down to get my newspaper off my porch this morning because my gluts were so angry with me. I did the beginners class yesterday evening and I'm feeling it every step today. I was a little terrified to sign up, since the website talks a lot about "muscle failure" and "this class isn't for everyone" but I wanted to push my body a bit as I was starting to plateau with swimming and running. I'm definitely not the fittest person in America, but was able to make it through the beginners class with the help of an inspiring instructor and a few modified exercises towards the end. I really enjoyed the communal feel of the workout and definitely felt like a warrior when I was walking home on wobbly legs after 50 minutes of character and body building. If you are willing to push yourself through wobbly limbs and discomfort, I think you will enjoy this class. Only cons are the studio smelled like dirty feet and doesn't have showers, so maybe doing something to calm that down a bit. Like a little sage or something? IDK. The smell was way stronger than at most places i've worked out in. read more

Whoa boy, strap yourself in because this is an intense workout! If you've never been to Solidcore before, they've got unique equipment and a pretty specific routine, not unlike a lot of other specialty/boutique studios. The equipment is similar to a Pilates reformer machine, and the workout style is similar to barre (where you're trying to hit muscle fatigue). The studio is relatively spartan, with one large workout space and ample room/seating for waiting. There are two bathrooms with a few spritzes and sprays, nothing crazy in terms of amenities though - no shower. Towels are offered for free and there is a mini fridge in the waiting area with water and protein drinks. I particularly liked one of the two instructors I'd had there for the beginner class, and felt like she explained the ropes well to me and was very attentive to helping me make modifications. Prices are what you'd expect from a boutique studio: high. Note: You need a door code to enter the studio (the door is always locked). You should be given this when you first sign up for class, but I wasn't, so double check before you go for the first time! read more

Solid Core is no joke. It is a great workout, and you will absolutely feel it the next day! It is a great use of 55 minutes, that's for sure. This class is definitely not for the newbie. I would suggest going with a friend who knows the class, or trying to sit next to someone who seems like a pro so you can follow along. There are no breaks where they demo the next move. You quickly transition from one exercise to the next, and the instructor explains the next exercise while you're in the current one (and in pain!) Another gripe would be that some of the instructors dont even try to correct your form. They just kind of keep with a script and may as well be instructing you from another location. I had Jeffrey for my first class, and he was great and super patient, and have had some instructors since who kind of phone-it-in. Love that solidcore in on classpass! I was very hesitant to try out this class because I was told that I'd feel like death after. Did I? Yes. But did I come back? Yes. Solidcore at Adams Morgan is pilates on steroids with great music and amazing instructors. Classes will always be small because of the limited equipment. It's not a place they will shove 45 people into a small space! I got the two for one deal for $39. Normal classes are actually quite expensive but if you can afford to come during the "off-peak" times then classes are $27! And if a new instructor is in training, then classes are $10. I was told that classes never get any easier but you get used to it because your body starts building the muscles and strength that you want. It's definitely a challenge. I've never dropped the F bomb so much during a class but those tears and sweat are definitely worth it... (ask me in two days when I'm limping and sore) Try it out and see if you're up to the challenge! read more

I run ~5 miles 5-6 days a week, and was sore for 2 days after my class. It's intense, exhausting and challenging in the best way possible. If you want to get or stay fit, 3 days a week at Solidcore will definitely do it. I don't go regularly due to the price tag. I think it's reasonable compared to other companies, just not something I'm personally willing to pay for. read more

The cancellation policy is tone deaf and ridiculous in light of a pandemic! Feeling a little sick, I decided to cancel 8 hours before class out of an abundance of caution and they tell me that they won't even issue a credit for the class because I didn't cancel 10 hours before! What kind of business is so inflexible in light of an unprecedented pandemic? you'd think they'd applaud someone for thinking about fellow class participants and staff. Also, what kind of workout class makes someone cancel so early or lose her class entirely? No accommodation for unexpected events! I have never dealt with that anywhere else, not even SoulCycle. Even if an instructor cancels, Solidcore won't issue an outright refund, just credit. read more

Have honestly never experienced such a unique and effective work out. Always leave feeling so strong and rejuvenated! Typically visit the admo location, however have also visited Bethesda, Shaw, mount vernon, and west end. Justin is great if you have the privilege of taking his class. Good first time special (I recommend buying a 10 pack for the most bang for your buck) also on class pass. Just moved to NYC and I've already gotten my friends hooked! I've been on the lookout for a new studio that I could settle into and perhaps become a monthly member of. Lo and behold, I came across Solidcore, something I had never heard of before but the initial introduction I read on their website seemed intriguing enough so I went in for their beginner course earlier this month. I arrived to the studio early, introduced myself to the instructor and informed her of my limitations and waited for the other class to end while taking in the surroundings. Solidcore is... loud. The music is blaring. The lights are bright. The Abercrombie & Fitch-like cologne all throughout the studio (seriously, do you all spray like a whole bottle of scent per an hour because that stuff is STRONG). The chalkboard flooring in the restrooms filled with graffiti and canned words of inspiration. Very in-your-face and has it's own culture within the fitness enthusiast crowd, from what I gathered after touring the facility and sitting down observing the staff and attendees. For the most part, everyone I encountered was polite and friendly. If you're going to a beginner course, definitely arrive 15 mins early so that you can get an early introduction. If you've done pilates reformer, their machines aren't too much different than that - but they do different movements and variations which would be good to know up front before beginning the class. So, caveat, I have several chronic conditions that puts me in the "invisible disabilities" category, so certain things that will bother me might not bother you. But just in case anyone is in the same boat I'm in, let me say that you might want to build your way up to Solidcore - yes, even the "beginner" workout. It's A LOT thrown at you at once. Starting with the overwhelming sensory. If you have any condition where sensory overload is a concern for you, you might want to skip out on Solidcore. In the beginner class things are "toned down" from their regular classes but still quite AMPED UP when compared to other fitness trends and studios. Which means the music is still blaring. The lights are dimmed but still quite BRIGHT. And that smell i mentioned earlier. Well about 20 mins into being in the studio i started to get a headache. But I didn't feel horrible, so i thought i could power through. That was my first warning that this wasn't right for me, because as the class went on (even as I took breaks at my own pace, as the instructor advised) that headache only got worse. Between the music, the smells, the lights, and the pretty damn challenging exercises, my entire body felt like it went through a week in one hour. Again, may be totally your jam, but since I didn't see other reviews mention some of the things i mentioned here, i thought I'd add that just in case anyone else with a similar situation is thinking of trying out Solidcore. I've been doing [solidcore] for a year. It's now one of the main things I talk about in my social interactions. Lol. I live in Woodley Park and go to the Adams Morgan and Cathedral Heights locations. These are the only locations I've tried. The downside with AdMo is that there's no designated parking, and you know how tough it can be to park in AdMo. So, I often walk to this location. I assume most others do as well. Otherwise, I have no preference. The instructors are all great and the workouts are always very challenging. I will say that Christine F. at AdMo is the hardest instructor I've experienced and I have taken classes with several different instructors. I decided to try to get into pilates at the very end of 2018. One reason is that I have a minor bulging disc in my lower back from doing a single leg deadlift during a HIIT group fitness class at my gym. =( I needed something low impact. I also thought I would sound cool and fancy if I could say that I'm a pilates pro. LOL! I started out doing the 2-classes-per-month plan. At the end of 2019, I hit the 50-class mark. I have had a six pack for several months. I've got tank top arms. I've got firm thighs and a firm bum. =) [The only thing I wish I could work on in the class is my calves.] I'm now doing 4 classes a month. Go me! I try to supplement this class with cardio exercise because this workout is all about slow movement with high resistance. I often get drenched in sweat but no heavy breathing. If you're new to solidore and haven't been exercising at all, I would recommend working out a few times for a week or two before the first class. Be prepared to have some trouble with the positions. Also, be prepared to feel your muscles burn! Don't worry, the class is challenging for everyone. Embrace the shakes. The people who have experience are struggling just like you because they are using more resistance and heavier weights. Usually, you can follow others to see the right position for the exercise because there are always people who know. The instructor is not using a machine during the class, so he/she can't give you the visual but they will give positioning instructions, provide hands-on corrections, and make suggestions for how to make the exercises easier or harder. You will get a demonstration of some exercises before class (and a tutorial on the machine if you go to a beginner class). Sometimes they have happy hours and other gatherings. So, you might make some friends, too. Try it! read more

Solidcore has been an amazing addition to my workout routine and in the past few months it has really become my primary workout due to a very busy work schedule. The workout is true to everything you will read about. It is intense, challenging, incredibly effective, and once you get hooked, it really is fun taking class. The coaches at Solidcore are phenomenal. They do the workouts regularly themselves so they know exactly what you're going through whether it is your first workout or your fiftieth. They will inspire and challenge you but also help make form adjustments so that you're safe and getting the most out of your workout. It is amazing how the slightest lift of your hip or extension in your shoulders will light your body on fire. I've taken many classes with Jacob, Johanna, Jolene, Katie, Erin, and recently Justin, all incredible. What I love most about the workout is I have not only grown stronger physically, but mentally as well. Throughout class, the coaches are constantly reminding you about the changes you're making to your body and that the pain is only temporary. You will be pushed to be uncomfortable, but come to realize that's where change happens and you're stronger than your brain might allow you to think. I have grown to find an escape in my workouts, intensifying my focus in the process and blocking out the stress of the outside world. It is also true that if you go to Solidcore 2-3 times a week, it will change your body. Solidcore helps keep me lean and toned and I had never seen my abs or obliques before Solidcore. Unlike some reviews, I don't come from a fitness background and was never athletic growing up. When I first started at Solidcore, actually at the original Adams Morgan location, I never felt unwelcome or out of place. I stopped taking classes during the studio relocation and with some life transitions, but have been back at it since August 2016 regularly and couldn't be happier. Solidcore is one of the most awesome, challenging, and innovative workouts I've ever tried. I recently hurt my hip and needed to temporarily switch from Crossfit to a more low-impact workout, and had heard great things about Solidcore and decided to give it a shot. I started out with the beginner classes to ease into it, but even those are insanely challenging. The beginner classes are a good way to get the hang of the movements--they start with a 10 minute demonstration before class starts, it's easier to hear the instructions because the music is a bit lower, and the movements are slightly less complicated. Both the beginner and standard classes leave me sore and feeling like I got the best workout ever. I've been going twice a week for about two months now and I'm completely obsessed. It's admittedly expensive, but fitness is one area where I'm willing to splurge if it's worth it. Highly recommend class with Pamela--I schedule my week around her classes--but almost everyone I've had has been fantastic. Can't say enough good things about this place! read more

This place is awesome! Starting with the trainer Katie and then moving on to the cool/ chic look of the facility. What a great experience! I've done crossfit, pilates, yoga, globo gyms, and various HIIT gyms for several years now. Solidcore has a solid game plan! The workout is so challenging, yet so effective! If I lived nearby, I'd be addicted for sure...... and I'd look great! I was sore for days after in a way I haven't been in a long time. It's terrific! I'm usually a fit woman. I can run 5k at the drop of a hat, hike 10 miles and not be sore, etc. But not since I was playing basketball year round have I felt this fit. Doing SolidCore 2 to 3 times a week makes me feel tight, toned, controlled. I feel like I'm hitting peaks almost every time I go and I love seeing nice, steady, incremental gains. I am doing tricep presses with my purse for no good reason, testing my balance and endurance just for fun, and flexing under my work clothes. I really feel like a fit athlete again. Also like being an athlete, I feel like I'm on a team again. Solid core is challenging and social, way more so than the local gyms I've belonged to around Admo. Coaches and clients alike are now my team and when they shine I rise to meet them. Sometimes I'm the strong one, and I love the chance to lead. When coaches encourage me and when they correct me I feel more tightly knitted into the team, and I respect them like my basketball coaches from back in the day. I love the Admo Solidcore because that team spirit is high in the flagship location (I know, second flagship location.) But I also love that it's neighborhood-based, that my team there includes some of my physical neighbors, and some friends from afar. I love that people come a little early to say hi, that coaches and clients exchange schedule info to bump into one another, and that hanging after class to debrief, talk strategy, and compare workouts is a norm. Solidcore is getting me super fit and helping me find a team that keeps me coming back for more. It is hard, but that's the whole point. The team keeps me coming back. read more

Dear god, [solidcore]: two days later and still my body aches so good. I run or spin at least thrice, and lift at least twice weekly, and have tried a lot of the fancy classes in town and by far, solidcore was the hardest damned workout I've ever endured. The small class size is awesome; I felt like everybody got lots of attention from Kristin, who placed a lot of emphasis on our form and was excellent in offering adjustments, corrections, and lots of encouragement as we were working our way through the movements. Of note: if you had asked me to years ago to go into a group class like this, I would've balled up in a corner and cried with fright. Tried to double charge me for a class after their own mistake, and never bothered to apologize for doing so. They sent a screenshot of their own records while pursuing payment, which showed and explained the discrepancy. These classes aren't cheap, so I warn folks to stay aware of their charges and possible double-charges. This incompetence on the part of the studio was also inconvenient for me to resolve so an apology for the inconvenience would have been appreciated. Solidcore is the first "fad" fitness class that I've tried. I hate lifting weights and I do cardio throughout the week, so I thought this would be a good low impact addition to my exercise routine. I was skeptical at first, but after doing it for a few months, I've gotten hooked. Honestly, most people that I've seen in the classes are already pretty fit, but I'm not sure if that's because of Solidcore or otherwise. Regardless of your fitness level, you'll leave feeling sweaty and sore as if you've gotten a good workout. I'm not sure if I'm getting stronger, but Solidcore has definitely helped tone my body. For starters, Solidcore is not cheap. Regular classes are $37 for a 50 minute workout. Class passes are available for slightly cheaper rates, but the least you'll pay is about $25 for 4 "off-peak" classes. It's hard to explain how the Solidcore machine works without actually taking a class, but it's a full body workout. The routine is different during each class, which makes coming back more enjoyable, but expect to do tons of squats, lunges, planks, and oblique crunches. There's also some upper body work towards the end of class. The instructor (coach) talks the entire time and tells you what to do. The classes are small with a maximum of 11 people, and it's mostly women. Overall, I'd say give it a try. Be careful though, as you might get addicted! read more

I am 46 years old and used to be in excellent physical condition. However, over the past 4-5 years, I have only worked out on and off - mostly off. Finding myself in a gym rut, I decided to try some classes and ran across Solidcore. Solidcore is challenging and effective workout and the instructors are very helpful. The other participants, especially the more experienced ones, are also helpful in guiding you through your first classes. Folks, like me, who struggle with balance issues, may have problems with certain exercises, but I usually modify the exercise or take that time to rest. For any new mommies, Solidcore is a GREAT way to reconnect your brain and your lower tummy after a cesarean. It incorporates the planking and other components your physician recommends. Signing up for the class will ensure you have a set time to work on it because as time goes on, it gets harder to make the connection needed to eradicate the cesarean pouch. That said, Solidcore is something you should supplement with cardio and strength training. However, it will help, over time, improve balance and coordination, which set the stage for many other fitness regimens. read more

This review is for the beginner class, which provides a brief overview of how to use the Pilates machine before you start using it. The overview was very helpful! The rest of the beginner class moves at a slightly slower pace than a normal session but my GOD was it challenging! And I work out 3-4 times per week! This is a great way to target small and large muscles all over your body that cardio or weight lifting simply cannot do! I normally don't get a lot out of studio fitness classes but I was so impressed with my first beginner class that I plan to go back and try it again. 7th street location review, but hear that this location is similar: I frequently travel to DC and always try to work out when I travel. I booked a 50 minute class for $40. The instructor was decent but a bit aloof and treated me like an outsider. It was obvious that she preferred the "regulars". The workout was decent, but nothing amazing. My next visit was with a different instructor and was about the same. The place is aesthetically pleasing, but the machines are not kept clean. The Sweatlana machines were sticky. YUCK! I've been to both Primal Fitness and Ambitious Athletics. Both are SUPERIOR to Solidcore. I won't be returning to SolidCore and can't recommend it. read more

Confidence in your strength, your body, and within the community. I'm addicted. Nothing is as efficient as this workout. Nothing can bring me to muscle failure every single time, except this workout. Such a good workout! As someone who loves fitness classes and has tried a little bit of everything, I was definitely surprised by how unique and challenging this workout is. I definitely recommend starting with the beginner classes. It's hard to get the hang of it and understand the movements at first, and the beginner classes can definitely help. They're still challenging, just taught at a slower pace so you get a better grasp on the movements. The instructors are all wonderful. I haven't found one yet that I don't like! They're all friendly, make an effort to get to know you, and provide lots of words of encouragement when things get tough. The music is a little loud, so sometimes it can be hard to hear the instructor, but it's never been a huge issue for me. I tend to go between the West End and the AdMo locations; both are great. Highly recommend [solidcore] if you're looking for something more unique in your workouts! read more

Admittedly I was SUPER intimidated before trying my first [solidcore] class for so many reasons (including falling off the machine!) . I am an ironman triathlete, ultra-marathoner, former collegiate lacrosse athlete, and all around athlete since a young age but have never done anything like [solidcore] before. When I got to the studio I loved the atmosphere and energy that Jolene brought. She took the time to show me the machine and addressed all my questions and concerns. She also encouraged myself and the rest of the class to say 'hi' to your neighbor which made me feel a lot less nervous. As for the class itself, it is a challenge unlike any other. Every class I feel myself getting stronger but still being challenged by the coaches. I really appreciated the modifications that Jolene provided for certain moves when my lower back and shoulders got too tense. The coaches know how to push you to challenge yourself at whatever level of fitness you are at but also are focused on ensuring you are performing the moves with good form as to not injure yourself. Highly recommend this studio for those looking to take their fitness to the next level, challenge themselves, and have fun while working hard! read more

I've tried and committed to many different workouts (power yoga, running, pilates, weight training, etc.) and I find solidcore to be the most exhausting in the shortest amount of time. I've taken about 7 classes at this point over the past couple months and each time, I leave shaking, but empowered. Solidcore forces both your body and mind to become stronger; physically your muscles will develop and mentally you will push yourself to limits you didn't think you'd ever cross. I absolutely love how proud I am of myself after I finish each class because I SURVIVED and typically improve on a move/position I struggled with before. In terms of the workout, the point is to always engage your core through balance on a static platform and a moving platform. The instability of the moving platform as well as the springs that cause resistance are what challenge your muscles. The transitions are quick and I recommend coming early and practicing moves with the instructor before a class if it's your first time or you are unsure. If you have a position wrong during the class, you'll know because you aren't feeling any pain! The good news is that you can't really hurt yourself if you're not in the correct form since it's low impact. The bad news is that if you have a sailor's mouth, you might make the expletives in your mind audible accidentally like I have. Instructors are positive and encourage you not to quit and keep pushing, but they won't baby you. I've had instructors stand next to me and count me down to make sure I finish a set because they see that I want to take a break. Solidcore isn't for quitters. If you're trying it for the first time, do it with a friend and enjoy a good brunch after. You can challenge each other during the workout and commiserate together after over a mimosa. read more

This studio is well deserving of its well-known 5 star reputation (before people who have never been to the studio gave it negative reviews to drive a political message). Adam's Morgan studio is the first solidcore studio, the OG, and one of my favorites! Charly the studio manager is an inspirational person; she has this crazy good energy that is charismatic and, in my opinion, the funniest instructor. She is also highly personable. If anyone could only take one class to sample solidcore, she'd be on my list of recommendations. Don't believe what people who have never been here say about the instructors. read more

I was just here in the past two weeks and it is just a so so gym. I was in town for the EPA confirmation hearing in DC for work and I wanted to try this gym out. It is a so so gym. I think the best gym in DC is at the Hilton by the White House. But this will do in a pinch, but a $40 pinch for a 50 minute class. I would not spend the cash to join but you can use it when need be. read more

As a fitness instructor specializing in high intensity workouts, I can't recommend this "novelty" workout at all. My experience was expensive and unpleasant, and the workout itself seemed dangerous, especially for first-timers. Simply put: there are cheaper and more effective workout classes available. EXPENSIVE - Solidcore's cheapest rate appears to be $25 for a single 50-minute class. The cheapest package deal is $34 for two classes. It's expensive, and it's not worth it. Just get a monthly membership to a gym that offers fitness classes and go as often as you want for a fraction of the price. DANGEROUS - Solidcore's workout just seems dangerous. Our class did not begin with a warm-up of any kind, and I was concerned about injuring myself. Our Instructors also provided very little orientation to the machines before and during the class. We were given unclear and sometimes contradictory directions at an impossibly fast pace. I hoped that I could learn from my classmates, but looking around the room, no one appeared to be doing the same thing - even the regulars! Because of this general confusion, I left the class feeling the workout had hurt me more than helped me. UNPLEASANT - The classroom experience was also unpleasant. The music was so loud, I could not hear the instructor. Although we had a fairly intimate class size of 11 people, the instructor routinely addressed the whole class and did not offer much personal coaching. Finally, although the machines appear to be cleaned regularly, the straps soak up sweat and smell awful. read more

I just took Charly's noon class and it was AMAZING. I'm a personal trainer who exercises regularly, and I honestly underestimated the intensity of the class. It was my first class, and Charly welcomed me with open arms. She also gave me an overview of the machine, and taught me about the flow of the class. It made me feel comfortable, excited, and ready to take on the class. I recommend solid core to anyone who is bored with their current fitness routine, or isn't seeing the results they desire. I especially recommend Charly's class. read more

I guess I should start off by saying that I am jaded. I moved not too long ago from South Florida, and my home gym, a boutique operation of small group classes, was $74 a month, and this included unlimited reformer Pilates. So, when I moved to DC and started scoping out gyms, I was flabbergasted at the price tags, Solidcore, being one of the most expensive of all the places I checked out. $359 a month?! What?? But, I had heard so much about how killer of a workout this place was, how Mrs O. swears by it, blah blah, so despite the cost, I decided to try out a class, and bought the new client special for $28, for 2 classes. I knew going into that I wouldn't be able to afford an unlimited membership, but I figured I could always supplement whatever (less expensive) gym I ended up joining with a Solidcore class here and there, assuming it was the most epic workout of all time. The online reservation process was really easy, and I was able to get a space in a class the same evening, albeit it was an hour later than I would have liked, but at least I was able to secure a spot easily with little notice. It seems like the 6:30pm class fills up rather quickly though. When I got there, they had a keypad on the door, so I stood in front of the glass door looking confused and knocking gently, until someone let me in, and instructed me that the confirmation email has the door code in it. Oops. The people in the class before mine were leaving, and everyone was sweaty and the music was pumping, and I was getting read for an awesome workout. Checking in is as simple as giving the instructor your name and getting checked off on their iPad, so I did that, and let the instructor know that it was my first class. She told me to grab a reformer and set up some weights. A few more people piled into into the class, and then all of a sudden, our instructor was on the mic, telling us to get in plank position. Ahh what?! I wasn't ready! There was no warmup, we just drove straight into it, which was jarring. There was nothing to get the blood flowing or muscles warmed up, it was just straight into a plank and then right off with plank crunches and pikes and so forth. I definitely could have benefited from a warmup. As we moved from one position / exercise to the next, it was very quick transitions. The music was fast, the instructor was talking fast, all the people were moving fast, and I felt almost anxious. Besides the lack of a warmup, the biggest thing that was missing from my Solidcore workout was demonstration. In both of the classes I attended, while the instructors, were very upbeat and good about correcting form and keeping everyone motivated, did not offer any demonstration, save for a move or two prior to the start of class. Because of this, I had no idea what to do. The other repeat students were my saving grace, as I had to watch them to know what to do. But, since like I said, everything was so fast, I ended up missing valuable time, because I was trying so hard to figure out what it was I was supposed to be doing, and by the time I finally got in position, they were already on to the next set. Also because of the speed in which moves were transitioned between, there were many times where I sacrificed form because I felt like I just needed to go already and that everyone was a few steps ahead of me, and I couldn't take the time to make adjustments or get comfortable in my stance, so that was not the best. I would love to see things slowed down a bit, giving more time in-between movements for repositioning. I would have also loved to see formal demonstrations, since you are on a machine with different capabilities and all different kinds of spings and bungees and platforms. So it's not quite as easy to pick up audibly. Aside from that, the workout really was great overall. There were a few moves where I felt like they changed up a standard for the sake of being new and inventive, not for actually enhancing a motion. And sometimes I thought the reformer was a hinderance to getting the most out of a movement. But I will say that I was sore the next day, both times that I came, especially in the booty. I do think this is a more advanced workout, and I don't think someone out of shape could complete a class... it requires great muscle awareness and since there is no demonstration or hand-holding, you really need to know how to properly execute different movements going in, so as to do the class. My roommate (who is very much out of shape and does not workout) was considering going, but for someone like her, I feel like there would need to be a beginners class of sorts, or something that slowly goes over the basics and breaks down the various exercises done in class. All in all, it's a cool class and a good all-over workout. To be honest, I probably won't return or buy a package since it is out of my budget. However, if I were a rich housewife, I'd probably be a regular. read more

DO IT! I came to class for the first time a few weeks ago. I was super nervous because I hadn't worked out in quite some time, but I am SO happy that I made the leap! The workout is challenging, but the coaches provide you with positive reinforcement the whole way through. Each class feels like a team effort, and this inspires me to push my hardest. Thanks you! I've gone to about 4 solidcore locations, but the AdMo one was my home base while I attended solidcore. Solidcore was nice, but I decided not to continue with it. Let me first say that, I have enjoyed the challenges of the solidcore classes; but, it was too rigorous for me. I am not going to zing them for it, hence four stars, rather than less. But, for now, it isn't a fit for this beginner. I took their beginner's classes a few times and it didn't seem much different from their regular classes. The beginners classes took time to explain positions and the process. But, and maybe it was the instructor, both seemed to go at the same pace: chaotic. The hardest part is that the music is loud and the mic is muffled. For someone trying to learn the correct moves, it can be daunting not being able to hear clear instruction. I eventually tuned out the instructor and attempted to mimic my neighbors, hoping they were more advanced than I was. Of course, they were, but I still struggled. lol! Anyway, I believe that exercise type is a personal choice. It's not right or wrong. Solidcore wasn't a fit for me. Maybe as I advance in my fitness level, I will consider it again. But, for now, I have found other, less daunting ways to reach my fitness goals. read more

When I heard this was the hardest workout in DC, I had to give it a whirl. I love me a good workout and Solidcore did not disappoint. I have done my fair share of different workouts, I have pretty much tried it all! I have to agree with everyone else, this is the hardest workout I have ever done. Classe are done on a megaformer, and the movements are all done very slowly to activate your slow twitch muscles. Holding these poses and doing variations of pulses makes sure no parts of your muscles get left behind. Instead, you get left with an intense burning all over your body! In a good way, of course. The main focuses on these classes are your core, your arms, and your legs. A lot of the classes have the same general movements, but with slight variations. I have taken a total of 6 classes so far, and every time I do, I still feel like dying, but with every class I take, the feeling is a little less than the last. There is a reason Michelle Obama came to try out Solidcore, and every time I go to class, i think to myself, "Michelle Obama arms, here I come!" to get me through class without quitting. read more
