I did both beginner classes here and solidcore and found that while I got a little burn/soreness the day after, District Pilates felt more like a stretch Pilates class. I love District Pilates and had been regularly a few years ago. I recently visited again with a friend as a birthday gift and honestly it's just getting better. There are 7 reformers (yay small classes) with a chair and a ton of props to use throughout the workout. I've been to a few of the instructors and liked them all. The workout is challenging and you can really feel your legs, arms, glutes working in each posture. The studio has lovely and colorful art work and small seating area at the front. If you are looking for a good reformer workout I highly recommend this studio. Came to an intermediate class the other day and while I enjoyed it and thought the instructor was helpful (clear instructions, and always checked the spring weight to make sure everyone was doing well), it wasn't as intense as I had hoped it would be. Typically I'm sore for a day or so after an intermediate class at other places, but this particular class was almost like a stretch Pilates class. Took my first class, intermediate level, at District Pilates and I loved every minute of it. Julia gave detailed step-by-step instructions from movement to movement. It was a great combination of strength training, stretching and core exercises. My favorite part was the box, separate from the reformer, which is amazing for the core. I've taken pilates at other studios but I've never been overly impressed enough to come back. I would definitely come back and I see why it is 5 stars. read more

For starters, just try it. If you're having doubts, they have new client deals so it's low risk for your wallets. Worst case scenario, you don't like it, then you can just stop going. You don't have to commit to anything. I've also had my fair share of injuries but pilates doesn't aggravate them. They keep track of your injuries. They've provided me with modifications - sometimes I switched, but sometimes I've also stayed. The instructors were fine with either as long as I was comfortable. I've taken classes with Bailey and Valentina and they were great! Also, I think it's important to note that I've done pilates in Chicago, Michigan, Houston, etc. It's my go-to workout when I travel so I try to check out different studios and instructors. I've gotten some crappy instructors before, but these 2 were definitely not crap. The other clients are also great. I've never felt uncomfortable. Because of my injuries, I've had to take things slower, but the other clients don't judge you. They're just there doing their own thang too haha read more

I came to District Pilates for both mat and reformer classes, and had Laura as an instructor, who was great! She was very knowledgeable and helpful to our class. It seemed like many of us had athletic backgrounds, but the exercises (especially the reformer) were challenging, and I definitely got a good workout in each time. I honestly cannot remember how I found DP but I. Am. In. LOVE. Unlike at least one other reformer-oriented workout in the area (I did [solidcore] back in 2013), this boutique studio is far from intimidating and all about ensuring you have a good workout in an inviting atmosphere. No mean girls/guys students; friendly instructors; and a great workout all in this neighborhood gem. Because the class has a 6-student max., the instructors are super attentive. I love hearing them say, "good job, Mia!" - seriously, having the coach call you by name is such a big deal for me. Anyway, I love that they really work to correct form and offer modifications if a student is working through an injury or can't quite get the exercise for whatever reason. I've taken classes with Valentina; Greg; Bailey; Rishon and Stephanie. All have been really, really good. Another BIG BONUS is that they offer 3-levels of classes. The Beginner class is perfect for those who have never done pilates on a reformer (or pilates at all). You learn the key/common phrases/position names and have an opportunity to build confidence. The props are awesome too, as they force a targeted workout. There is music, but it's kept at a level that is absolutely appropriate for focusing on form and breathing. I actually only hear it (like focus on it) if the instructor mentions something about a song or an artist. I'm so into my breathing and perfecting the movement, the outside world disappears. I love it. I think that's my favorite part of District Pilates: for 55 minutes, it's me, my 5 fellow pilates peeps and our coach. Nothing else matters. As a Class Pass member, I've taken a variety of Pilates classes around DC, and I can say with certainty that this is my favorite studio. I genuinely look forward to every class I have with Bailey. Her energy is infectious but not in an annoying over-enthusiastic fitness trainer sort of way. Walking into the studio feels like walking into a group of friends catching up after a long weekend. Every class I've taken has been challenging and inspiring. I always leave feeling better in my body than I felt when I walked arrived. If you've never tried Pilates, I recommend that you do. I was a yogi for years until I found reformer Pilates and got hooked. One of my favorite fitness quotes is "The most effective workout out there is the one you'll actually do." I really like this studio. Technically, I've been here a lot, back when it was Reformation Fitness' pilates studio. It doesn't really look any different now except some new paint and new equipment (I dig the pastel colors). The teachers are awesome, Bailey and Greg are great teachers for any level of Pilates experience that you have. They are both super nice and encouraging. Bailey the owner is AMAZING, she's extremely knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, and kicks my butt on the reformer / chair! Katherine is also a fantastic teacher, I swear my inner thighs were sore for two days after a class with her! The instructors use a variety of props while on the reformer, the tower, and combine the chair at the end of workout. It's really awesome to use all three apparatuses for a kick ass workout! The studio is colorful, with cool artwork on the walls and they sell a variety of District Pilates Tshirts and tank tops that are well priced and super cute! I have to say, I am suspicious of all these glowing reviews. I've taken two classes here and was impressed neither time. The two instructors I had were not very organized and both women seemed clueless as to how to offer modifications for a medical issue I was dealing with. I found Bailey about a year ago and am SO glad I did because she is AWESOME and my favorite DC pilates teacher. I'm so excited for her that she's doing her own thing now. Her classes are just a ton of fun and the time always flies by. The classes are fast paced with lots of variety which I really appreciate and she really pushes you but in a good way. We generally use both the reformer and the chair constantly switching back and forth as well as other props so it's never boring. She is also upbeat and positive making sure to adjust springs etc for each person's individual needs. read more

She fits more moves into a 55 minute workout than anyone I've ever worked out with and keeps you laughing and having fun the whole time. If I only did this once a week I'd maintain my shape. I've been taking classes with Bailey & Greg for the last year and would follow each of them anywhere. They make reformer class so much fun. Every class is different and difficult! I'm constantly challenged, but also entertained. I've never laughed so much in a pilates class. They both use a variety of props and apparatus - magic ring, stability ball, hand weights, jump board & chair...a 55 minute class flies by!
