Having a detailed set of plans makes sure you can get like-bids from different contractors and compare them -- otherwise you are really comparing apples to oranges. Is the cheaper bid really cheaper, or is it not as thorough? Even though getting plans is an additional step and cost, it can save you so much in the end, ensure you get exactly what you want done, and allows you to phase in your project while still keeping to the original vision (if you can't spend all the moolah on one big bang). With all that being said, It has been such a pleasure working with Gary to turn our dream yard into a reality! He took our perspective and ideas and also provided input/suggestions based on his years of experience -- For example, what plants have invasive roots and to avoid, how to create and open flow while also developing separate entertaining areas, etc. Through a series of drafts, reviews, and revisions he has helped us get together an amazing plan for our backyard space. He is always punctual with meetings and deliverables and very responsive to texts and emails. We started off with another landscaper that ended up going out of business…read more Fortunately we only lost a little money with those folks, but we nonetheless had to start the shopping process over again. We found J&P on Yelp, and they were able to start w/in a fairly quick time frame. The crew was on time, every time. We didn't have the funds to nail down our whole project in one season, but put a good dent into the final project this year. These guys laid pavers for a pretty good sized patio for us, and we've gotten numerous compliments on how great it looks. They spent a tremendous amount of time measuring, leveling & cutting all the pavers to get them perfectly in place. The project took longer than I anticipated - but only because they spent so much time working on getting everything laid out and level. Our final project calls for a pretty good sized outdoor fireplace. In addition to the pavers, they planted some trees and threw in a couple trees for us, and they did the rough ins for the gas line once we actually get to the fireplace. We are quite pleased with our choice of landscapers and can't wait to get everything finished up.
