That memorial is meant to reflect the love, sacrifice, and presence of Jesus, yet it's consistently neglected. For a school that carries His name, this lack of care sends a message that directly contradicts the values it claims to teach. When something so symbolic is left in that state, and when attempts to bring attention to it are met with cold and dismissive attitudes, it raises a serious concern: Are we really honoring Him the way we should? A Catholic school should be a living reflection of Christ, in its words, its actions, and even in the way it tends to something as sacred as His image. This is not written out of criticism, but out of a deep hope that someone in leadership will take this seriously. After 10 months at Shalom, I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience. The safety precautions they have in place ease my mind each day when I drop Jack off; and the joyful squeal of "school" or "April" (his teacher's name) as we pull up in front of the building lets me know how much Jack enjoys his days there. His teachers have taught him to say "more" in sign language, to draw and paint, to sing and dance to a variety of kids songs, and to play nicely with his friends. Shalom is a warm and caring environment - from the top down. The Directors, Michele and Providence, are warm and welcoming and clearly care about all of the Shalom families. Not only do they run the school incredibly well, but they have given me parenting tips. If you are looking for an amazing experience for you and your children, Shalom is definitely the right place.

Now, on the other hand, I have had two brothers go through the Special Education program and have watched time and time again as the program failed my brothers. The school district misdiagnosed my little brother saying that he had ADD and so prescribed him adderall when, in reality he was dyslexic. Anyway, I think they need to develop their Special Ed programs. The school district is in need of good Special Ed teachers who bring the education to the students in a non-traditional way. I loved Robbins Lane, loved HBT and loved SHS. I thank God for the experiences I had at these schools. They made me the person I am today.

SCSD prepares you along every step of the way, and especially to be a success in, and out of the classroom. Their curriculum is challenging, yet allows even the average student to reach their potential. They also offer the most AP/advance placement classes that I know of. I myself took 12 AP courses throughout my high school career, and I can attest that their standards help you prepare for college. Their sports, among other activities allow for well-rounded students come graduation day. The fine arts program is also extremely well funded, and allows for students to pursue their interests. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Syosset's teachers are paid higher, our taxes are higher, and our superintendent gets paid too much, but results come at a cost. I cannot speak about the Special Education programs as I have no personal experience with them, but for the average student going through Syosset, the results speak for themselves. A shout out to the Girls Varsity Tennis Team which has won Long Island Championships for 3 years in a row! Rock on girls, make me proud :)

Before daycare, we had an au pair, but we felt he would benefit more from being around other children. Of all the options we explored, Goddard was by far the best choice. The school is safe, clean, and has plenty of outdoor space for kids to run and play, plus an indoor gym for rainy or very cold days. The staff is passionate about their work, maintains strict teacher-to-child ratios, and follows a curriculum that balances fun with learning. We receive photos throughout the day and a helpful en-of-day report. We've been very happy with all my son's teachers over the years. They've made him feel special, encouraged his growth, and helped him form strong friendships. The children motivate one another in such a positive way. Some people mention that tuition is higher than other schools, but we feel it's worth it for the level of care and education provided. You do need to pack lunch and snacks daily, but that's no different from feeding your child at home-and it ensures they'll eat food they enjoy. Coming from NYC, we were expecting long daycare waitlists, so we reached out six months before his start date. To our surprise, we had no issues getting a spot, and he's been enrolled full time since day one. We highly recommend this school.

If you need to withdraw your child, many schools have a 30-day opt-out clause - Goddard's opt-out clause is 60 days, and you need to be careful because they are extremely vague and unclear when it comes to money. The teachers seemed entirely disinterested in the families and children, the outdoor space is tiny, and the overall environment did not feel welcoming.

I dare say many of my college classes are easier than those I took at Chaminade. The workload was pretty bad, but again this prepared me well for college and gave me good study habits. I graduated here before they started offering their AP courses, but I'm assuming the academics are still top-notch. They were pretty strict with things like uniforms, cheating, and general classroom nuisance, but I really don't recall many egregiously unfair punishments handed out. Most of my classmates were great and I'm still friends with many of them in college. I never really saw any bullying going on, and even those who I didn't like the most were better people than most at other schools. In terms of the good morals stuff, yeah I'll say that part's a little overrated. They definitely teach you to be the best person possible, and I will say most of my classmates were good people. But some parents try to act like everyone who goes here is a saint or never does anything bad in their life. This just isn't true. A lot of drinking and drugs (mostly just weed) goes on here. Again most of even those who party and stuff are decent enough, it's just perhaps not the most "saintly" place ever like some parents will have you believe. It's one of those places that you don't like, at the moment when you're going there because of the course load and how stressed you will be. But once you look back on it a couple of years into college, you'll see how good it was and how well it likely prepared you.

Tuition is very expensive and entry admittance is not very easy. I highly recommend this school for any parents and young men who are entering their high school years. It is a "coming of age" to young men.
