this place is terrible they have a gym and a basketball court but two minutes they kick you out of the basketball court because there's a game which I respect that but while the on, they say you can come in the basketball court the entire game going on and you don't even get to the gym they say you can't go in there by yourself when you're below 14 which I respect that but then below 14 I don't wanna bring their parents in court oven in the kids zone where they watch your kids after school or you drop them off in the They don't even have adults in so what's the point of even dropping them in people like to drink and eat they're on their own, but it's a vending machine. They wanna vending machine but they don't give you. I have a feeling ya'll would say have you ever consider it's out of order well they say it in order not working well, but a bunch of people were coming up to the front desk. I was here while I was on the way to the bathroom and they were complaining about how they got scammed and they took their money away and they didn't get what they paid for. Good place go swimming! I haven't ever worked out here but I take my daughters to swim. The pool is nice and kid friendly. In the summer it gets really busy at the outdoor pool. Everyone here is extremely friendly. I've been here probably over 10 times and it's always been a good experience. They also have a snack bar...and they have great grilled cheese sandwiches! I know, not a healthy option after a workout but after the kids are swimming for hours it's delish! read more

For a community recreation center, City of Solon does the trick. Could the locker rooms and restrooms be a little cleaner? Sure. But for as long as their will be packs of teenagers in the community and local athletes training here, its probably going to be a little messy...and I think the other kids who work here do the best they can to keep those areas clean and nice. That's a vicious cycle of teenage messiness. If you're looking for a basic place to work out, the Solon Rec is the best option in the area. The first floor has a rock wall, weights, gymnasium and indoor/outdoor pool, while the second floor has machines, a track and a private exercise room. There's also a Senior Center downstairs, as well as kid programming that occurs. There's plenty of windows and natural light, which I appreciate. I've also never waited for a machine, particularly a treadmill or elliptical, and there's a decent wi-fi connect to stream music or check emails. The whole concept is open and spacious, which is a welcome reprise from gyms with wacky colors and super bright lights that just stress me out. I've also never had an issue finding a parking spot, so extra points there. In the summer, the outdoor pool gets pretty packed. This seems to be the hot seller here. But if you're just looking for a casual place to workout, I highly recommend the rec center for all your treadmill needs. The City is lucky to have such a modern facility! read more

I can only speak to renting a banquet room. I've rented 1/3 space, two years in a row for baby showers (my own). The facility itself seems pretty new. The banquet rooms are spacious and they will set up and take down tables and chairs. You just have to provide a drawing of what you want. The director Mr. David is very nice and has great communication. I will say that it's a little costly but worth it. You have access to a full kitchen with ice maker, sinks, stove, freezer and fridge. There's a little patio area just outside the rooms. I definitely recommend the community center for parties. read more

Went to a birthday party here recently and it was so nice. The area was away from other parties and though cops were there they never bothered any guest. The room was clean tables were newer and the area was big enough for the number of people in the party. read more

I think in the past year or so this place has gone downhill a bit. It has become increasingly more aggravating to work out here. Bathrooms are not terribly clean and quite often the restroom stalls are out of toilet paper. This is kind of a basic need and I'm not sure how often they restock but it needs to be more frequent. if you come late at night, there are several days a week when they will annouce in a loud, monotone voice that the gym is closing in 45 minutes. Now 40 minutes. Now 30 minutes. I'm not sure why it is so grating to be reminded every 5 minutes when the gym is closing, but it is, and it really distracting from putting in that last minute effort. But my biggest complaint is the people who work here. There is one couple in particular and they like to walk in step around the indoor track, making it extremely difficult to pass them if you are trying to run when they are walking. Indeed, there are quite a few people who do this or walk in the middle or outside of the track and make it extemely hard for others. A little consideration would go a long way! read more

Amending my review to say that this is no longer the best gym in Solon (a rating that I previously gave, but only because there weren't any better options). The local Anytime Fitness has much better equipment now, including some great plyo boxes, a pull-up/TRX station, and a lot of heavier kettlebells. I really wonder if the people who wrote the nasty reviews have actually worked out here. I haven't seen the uncleanliness they complain of, have never endured rudeness from another member and find the facilities to be more than adequate. I'm really amazed by the complaints about price. Have any of you priced Lifetime or the Mandel JCC? They have nice facilities, too, but there's an administrative fee and the dues for a couple are in the $100/month range. I work in Solon, but don't live there and my husband and I pay (apiece) $27.50 per month for a 3-month membership. That's what it used to cost to belong to Bally's and almost what it costs to belong to Fitworks (and Fitworks doesn't have a pool!) Of course, I didn't fork over for the classes because that's not the kind of workout I do, so if you're adding that in, yes, it is more expensive. But that's an option, not a requirement. I do agree about the staff upstairs (with the one person mentioned as an exception in another review). The front desk staff has always been nice and very helpful. Upstairs, not so much. I like to lift weights, but I don't want to work out in the main weight room downstairs. This wasn't a problem until recently, when they took out the weight bench upstairs. When I asked the girl at the fitness desk where it was, she said "It's downstairs". When I asked "Why?" (because a lot of people used it) she shrugged. That was her only response. Not very helpful. There are a lot of pieces of equipment to choose from (including some unusual ones - the Helix lateral trainer, a Schwinn arm bike (which I use a lot because I have a bad knee to deal with right now) and a rope climb workout machine). You can also sign up for TRX and several classes, which are extra. All in all this is a lot better of a club than the negative reviewers would have you believe. And, no, I don't work there, I don't have friends on the staff and have no connection other than my membership. read more

I don't think you can do much better in terms of value, as a resident. You might have an argument if you're looking for a big weight room or extremely expanded hours. Aside from that, the facility offers everything for your training needs, child care, classes, trainers, community programs including seniors, pool, and a cafe. read more

I joined this place about a month ago, after moving to the Solon area. My bf's father swears by the rec center as he calls it, and I REALLY wanted to like it too. I have been a member of a few gyms in the past, including the YMCA, and a similar Community Center type facility where I was living. Within a week of joining the rec center, I realized I had made a big mistake here are the things I've noticed, the good and the bad: Pros: - Nice meeting facilities, for seminars, even weddings, they have nice areas. - A rock climbing wall in the middle of the center. - The layout of the pool is original, nice entries, lazy river, slide, hot tub, lap area. - The towels, washcloths are provided to either wipe down the equipment, or use if you want to wipe off sweat, they same to be well laundered and in good condition generally. Cons: - Price! This is by far the most expensive center I've ever joined, and for the price, I expected certain things, such as say exercise classes? Buyer beware, you have to pay EXTRA for any class you want to take. - Cleanliness, I shutter as I write this, I've never been to such a filthy gym, in all my life. The locker rooms are disgusting, the showers look like they may get cleaned once a week in the communal area, the shower curtains are moldy and not big enough to cover the entry, the private/family locker rooms are the worst though, there is a film on the floors of the showers that is orange and slimy, there is dirt in all the corners, bugs crawl in and out of the drains, and on MANY occasions in the main locker room bathrooms, at 5:30am (when they open) I've gone to use the bathroom, found the seats up, as though they've been cleaned, pulled them down to find dirt, urine, once I even found blood, are you kidding me??? If you're not going to clean the toilets, don't bother putting up the seat to give the illusion. - Maintenance, the shower heads are almost all broken, they hang down and only hit the wall with the trickle of water they pour out, it's a joke, I can't even rinse conditioner out of my hair. There are ceiling tiles missing out of many of the locker rooms, paint pealing all over the place, and almost never paper towels in the dispenser, this morning there was a roll of toilet paper sitting on the empty dispenser, guess they at least tried? - The "gym equipment" I should have noticed this when I went for a walk through, but I didn't, so maybe that's my fault, but about 60% of their exercise machines are home gym pieces, why is this a problem? They brake ALL THE TIME, and no one ever seems to fix them, there's always tons of out of order signs on equipment, and none of the machines match, they've got at least 6 different brands of treadmill, only 2 of which seem quality, and at least 5 different brands of ellipticals, all of which seem pretty rickety. The strength equipment is a good brand, nautilus, which I like, but it's in serious disrepair, aside from changing the weight, all of the other adjustment features have worn out or broken, so if the seat or the leg, or the handle, or anything else is in the wrong position, and you're too tall or short, you just can't use that piece of equipment unless you want to awkwardly position yourself to somehow balance in just the right position to reach (which of course means you're not isolating the right muscle, and not doing the work it's supposed to do.) - The pool, I guess this goes along with both maintenance and cleanliness, but the water is sooo cloudy and questionable. Anyone who has had a pool in their backyard know the look, it's when you go out to the pool warehouse and buy the bag of shock to jump start your pool back to normal clear water. I noticed the cloudiness a little a few weeks ago, but this week it's gotten BAD, like you can barely see the bottom bad, just not something I'd venture in to voluntarily. - The staff aside from 1 person in particular who was extremely nice to me (a younger African American gentleman) the rest of the staff is rude, condescending, and acts like it's a huge burden whenever you ask them a question. I have been conditioned to avoid the staff at all costs. - Some of the clientele (mostly the older retirees that go here) are very rude to younger people, to the point of harassment, on many occasions in the morning one older man who works out has come in while I'm on a certain machine (there are 2, and the other one is always open) moves my stuff, puts his bag down and stands over top of me with his arms crossed until I move... the staff has observed him do this to many other people, but since most of the staff is older too, they act all chummy with him, and never do anything. - The "juice bar," pretty simple, it's not a juice bar, they sell soda, chips, candy bars... enough said. All in all the Solon Rec Center COULD be a really nice place, it has good bones, a good layout, nice building, great area, just badly run! read more

dont ever get a member ship from her the basketball courts are always closed they always have stuff going on lile pickle ball volleyball and other stuff and they have 2 basketball courts and they close both for these literally everyday the courts are closed so its really not worth it and they treat u like trash so go find somewhere else read more

Sometimes i really wonder about this place. Not only do you have to deal with the entitled personalities of Solon, but the staff are ridiculous. It's as if this is the Place is run to fit their needs, not ours. The showers are not clean, hardly work. Don't even get me started on the pool. Okay don't get me started on the cleanliness. The pool water looked like somebody peed in the whole pool and threw up afterwards. The shower heads are barely working at all. The place was fucking and ass looking. Way to disgusting by anybody standards. When I go in the family room with my kids the place looked like a tornado touched down and blew the whold place apart. Everytime I use the family rooms I have to clean up wet toilet paper. The ceilings completely peeling off. All the staff are very rude. One lifeguard at the pool ( caucasian with curly hair) would not let my child swim in the lap lanes. He told us in a very rude manner. Haven't been to the gym and don't want to. The teens here trash the gym and the tv place up after playing basketball. One time also a teen couple making out on the couch. Nobody here cleans up after themselves.
