It is bright and airy and clean, and the staff is out of this world. They seldomly keep you waiting for long, and their billing has always been prompt and correct. Like many, I have a terrible fear of the dentist based on past horrible experiences. At North Liberty Dental, they have taken the time to listen to my concerns, and work to help alleviate my anxiety by being open and honest about what they are doing, and by asking for my feedback at all times. I feel comforted by the experiences I have had at this office. I imagine they'd be great for nervous children as well.

I despise the experience and essentially everything it entails. The smells, the sounds and oh my gosh the feels -- it all makes me shudder merely thinking of it. I could think of one million and one things I'd rather be doing then getting my teeth cleaned. Like, grocery shopping with two tantruming toddlers in tow or even running a half marathon with a bum knee in the rain sans music. So, no, I suppose I don't hate a dentist personally-- it's not their fault I have a phobia directly related to their profession. That being said, I actually like this dentist ... if I take a step back and forget what she does. Only thinking of her as a person out in the real world, she's stellar. Jokes aside-- Dr. Miller is professional, extremely knowledgeable, kind and easy to talk to. She does her best to ease my mind, no matter the procedure or circumstance. I'd definitely acknowledge her if I ran into her at a coffee shop or something (so long as I didn't have anything super sugary in hand.) The staff is very friendly. The waiting room is pleasant with upbeat music playing. It is easy to find. They have really streamlined the entire process, your hygienist will make your next appointment for you as you wait for the dentist to stop in AND they send text message appointment reminders! So, since you HAVE to go to the dentist (there's no getting around it unless you want dentures by 40) stop in! I promise this one won't bite.

To make matters more stressful, it was a Friday--when many dental offices aren't even open. They answered the phone, took my situation seriously, and got me in to see a dentist right away. It turned out I needed a root canal, and they went above and beyond by getting me an appointment with an endodontist that same afternoon. The coordination and urgency they showed made a huge difference in what could have been a miserable experience. I should also mention that we were brand new to Iowa City and hadn't even established care with a dentist yet. We had just moved from Sacramento, where we loved our longtime dentist and honestly didn't expect to find comparable care so quickly. Iowa City Dental Clinic exceeded my expectations. The care was not only excellent, but genuinely compassionate. In addition to treating me, they provided excellent referrals, which helped me quickly get top-notch follow-up care here in Iowa City. I'm incredibly grateful for how they handled everything during a stressful situation. When I found myself in the market for a new dentist this year, I spent some time browsing reviews…read moreand asking around. I was also wondering how dental offices were handling the pandemic, from scheduling to cleanliness practices. Based on the recommendation of a friend, I decided to give Design Dental a call. I'm glad I did! They made everything easy and I felt comfortable the entire time. For new patients, they split it into two visits - one to take x-rays and do a general review, and then a second to do cleaning and/or work needed. When I called they were able to get me in in a reasonable amount of time. They were limiting the number of people in the waiting room by having you call from your car to let them know you had arrived, then took your temperature once they greeted you. The hygienists who took my x-rays and looked over my teeth and gums did a good job explaining what they were doing and looking at. Dr. Schminke was amiable and also clear about the process, answering any questions I had. They were able to get me in for the follow-up cleaning the very next day, which was a pleasant surprise. During the cleaning they offered me an optional item and mentioned that it wasn't covered by insurance, so I didn't have any unexpected charges. I found everyone there to be very helpful and friendly, and the place to feel clean and well cared for.

Because of my ugly teeth, I spent most of my life with my hand in front of my mouth. Because of my ugly teeth, I hated going to the dentist and then I met Dr Tu. Dr. Tu and everyone at Design Dental, were so kind to me. As a team, we came up with a plan and off we went! At the end of my treatment, I was handed a mirror. As I smiled into that mirror, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. I smiled when I walked out. I smiled when I drove home. I smiled and smiled and smiled! Dr. Tu gave me a beautiful smile. Dr. Tu gave me a beautiful smile and truly changed my life.
