We were staying in Solvang so saved $10 per person by meeting at the starting point, Brander Vineyards (vs taking the van from SB), and he sent me info on what time to get there and where to park ahead of time. There was no time wasted on this tour. We got a quick info session on how to use the e-bikes - VERY easy! - and then got started. The 16-ish mile ride was easy on the e-bikes; the one thing I will say is that I'm grateful everyone on our tour chose them because it definitely would have been different if there had been people utilizing regular bikes on the uphill climbs. We stopped for rests and photos several times, including at a mini horse farm! My 17-year-old was with me and when we made our last stop at the lavender farm William grabbed him a lavender lemonade since he obviously couldn't partake in the wine tastings. Great service! Speaking of wine tastings, there were two included, and we also got some great souvenir water bottles with the brand name on them! The lunch - caprese-style sandwiches, side salad, and charcuterie boards - was also awesome. We also had an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting toward the end, which was a really neat touch :) I can't say enough good things about this tour, especially for the price we paid. I did a tour in Sonoma last year that was more expensive and didn't include any wine tastings at all, and while I had a great time on that tour regardless, this one was above and beyond and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!

If you're doing a food tour and you're walking through the city, you should definitely have some…read morehands sanitizer or have spots along the way, picked out to be regularly washing your hands. You also should refrain from touching people's plates and cups as you discuss and show them the food items. I understand it's a food tour, but especially when you don't have clean hands, it's highly unsanitary! It's also a good idea to not greet dogs and let them lick all over you ... your hands.... your arms AND your face while you're interacting with people who are eating food, bringing them food from the restaurant & leading a tour. It's a good idea to give people space after you give them the information about the tour and the food and the art and let them socialize with the people that they came with. We should not have experience the person who is giving the tour or learning how to give a tourist next to you constantly asking you questions about what you're eating, what you're trying, where you're from or other questions that are really irrelevant .. it is pretty annoying & doesn't allow you to enjoy the experience fully. It's not a good idea to take shortcuts, because it's easier for you as the tour guide. One of our group members ate meat. The other 2 are vegetarians, but to keep it simple or make it easier. She was repeatedly offered vegetarian options and not given the opportunity to try the meat options along the tour. This was frustrating as you were very clear when setting up the tour, what the food restrictions were, we reminded them again when we got to the beginning of the tour and also reminded along the tour. How often will we need to say it in order to get the full experience. Although the tour guide and her trainee were very nice & social, it is not likely not an experience we'll do again.

We spent the day wandering around, soaking in the sights, chatting with locals, and even visiting a charming little art and nature museum. However, I found the tour to be a bit lacking in substance. Much of the information was vague, leaving us with unanswered questions. There was even a development featuring some unique houses that piqued our curiosity. My family and another family on the tour tried asking the guide about it, but we didn't get any answers. When we passed the museum, the guide briefly mentioned the famous troll but skimmed over some intriguing details, like the fact that it was crafted by a Danish artist using reclaimed wood--except for its imported head direct from Denmark. We learned those fascinating tidbits almost immediately upon entering the museum earlier. (The whole point of this town is that it's a Danish settlement.) There were other aspects that fell short, too. The website implied that we would have a chance to go inside the museum during the tour, but since we took a later trolley ride, the museum was unfortunately closed by the time we arrived. I really wish they had made it clearer that we wouldn't be able to visit. My biggest complaint, though, is the price. At $34, it felt like a steep investment for what we received. I believe if the ticket had been around $10, it might have felt more worth it. As it stands, we walked away feeling a bit disappointed and like we didn't quite get our money's worth. They also will let you know at the end. If you would like to give her gratuity, that you can.

Out guide was Nancy, and she was super sweet, thoughtful, and insightful, but my review isn't based on her. It's based on experience and value. What did $270 plus tip get us over 4 hours? 2 regular sized margaritas, one small one and a total of 5 Street sized tacos and some very unathentic churrros. I would have loved to have options of some kind, we were served whatever meat they wanted to serve. These tacos were not authentic and definitely were not filling, we all were starving when we left. We definitely did more walking and talking than eating and drinking. Would definitely say, for the price, you're better off bar/taco hopping yourself. I gave 3 stars since I went with good friends and Nancy was sweet.

We got plenty of food! Definitely no need to eat lunch after as was our plan. Delicious dishes! My favorite was a Thai salad with Mango, but we also had street tacos, and a cheese board oh wait maybe that was my favorite... or maybe the ice cream?! Oh also had chicken parmigiana and tagliatelle served with a fun Margarita! Yummy.... We also had one really great wine tasting, the only "bad" part was that I really wanted to order some wine but we kinda moved on before we got the chance to order. If I would change anything I would ask that they maybe give you a little more heads up. Georgia did a great job weaving together stories about both historical events and famous people in SB history with architectural information. I would highly recommend you put some comfy shoes on and book this tour ASAP!

Melanie clearly knows the Santa Ynez Valley well and has great connections in the wine community. Perhaps she was having an off day, but Melanie arrived a bit late and came across as a little distracted and not quite as engaged as we'd hoped. She didn't linger with our group longer than needed, but we felt rushed toward the end of each stop. The driving between locations was also not great and added to the feeling that we were being hurried through the experience. Despite those hiccups, the quality of the tour itself speaks for itself. We'd definitely give Destination Vine a second chance and look forward to experiencing it at a more relaxed pace.

Our tour guide David was a truly enthusiastic and friendly companion and we learned so much that we wouldn't have otherwise. I was a little tired from a previous week in LA and was somewhat apprehensive about a 1 and 3/4 hour tour but there were ample rest stops with opportunities to sit down. We took the water side tour and I would have liked to take the other two, had we had time. Highly recommend!
