This is nothing compared to the real harsh truth of reality. This honest review is for the sole purpose of bettering the company and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Clearly the person bothered is probably the lazy worker who saw the review or the shop owner*** The person working behind the register did not welcome us coming in the store. My partner and I entered twice and I noticed not once did she say anything to us. I saw her look up, look at us and look back down. She was sitting down the whole time looking at her laptop. Did not get up once. Lazy. Meanwhile, when an older couple walked in she immediately said hello and welcomed them. I don't care for discrimination but choosing and picking who you want to welcome in your store is a red flag. She may have judged us by the way we looked or dressed because we felt unwelcome so we left. My suggestion is to not pick and choose who they want to speak to because it was a lost sale, lost customer retention, lost business. For that reason we left and purchased nothing. As residents of a neighboring city, our family has supported this toy store in Solvang numerous times over the years. Yesterday, we stopped in during a family outing for a special occasion. My eleven-year-old son asked if he could choose something from the store. As he is beginning to outgrow most of their inventory, it took him quite some time to decide. Eventually, he selected a mini cap gun, only to realize it did not include caps. On the same display rack, we found the only circular caps available and purchased two packs, bringing our total to $21 before tax. As soon as we left the store, my son opened the toy, excited to try it, but quickly discovered the caps did not fit. The cap gun required an eight-shot ring, while the caps sold on the display were twelve-shot. We returned to the store to ask for the correct caps. The staff told us they did not carry the compatible ones and suggested the caps we bought could be trimmed down to fit. They then attempted to modify them, but were unsuccessful; they still did not fit. At that point, I asked to return both the toy and the caps, since the product I purchased did not work. I was told they did not know how to process returns. When I asked for the manager's business card, I was informed the owner was on maternity leave and that the contact information on the business card they had was outdated. It was concerning to find three young employees running the store who were neither equipped nor empowered to assist customers properly, unable to process a return, or notify buyers when items sold together were incompatible. After I pressed the issue, they offered an exchange for something of equal value. My son, who truly did not want anything else, reluctantly selected a plastic bow and arrow. At checkout, I voiced my unease that our only options were either to accept an exchange for something my son did not want or keep a product that did not function as intended. Two employees began speaking at the same time with conflicting explanations. One claimed they were "not allowed" to process returns, while the other again insisted they did not know how. When I pointed out this contradiction, a third employee joined the conversation and affirmed that they had all been trained together and none of them knew how to handle returns. With a rude tone, this employee then said, "Do you want the items or not?" She followed up by claiming I was "causing a scene in a kids' store," which I was not. Attempting to return a product that does not work is a reasonable customer expectation, not a disturbance. Her response was rude, dismissive, and an obvious attempt to deflect responsibility onto me rather than acknowledging the store's failure to provide appropriate service. She then accused me of setting a bad example for my son. When she tried to charge me for the bow and arrow, I reminded her it was supposed to be an even exchange. She abruptly gave it to me and said, "Don't ever come back in here." I assured her that I did not intend to. I am disappointed, as is my son, that we were sold a product that did not work as intended; he was looking forward to playing with this toy and I was happy to support a local small business. I am frustrated that we were denied a proper resolution. I am appalled that I was accused of being rude for expecting basic customer service, and I am disgusted that I was told that I was setting a bad example for my son. My son is more than capable of recognizing when a business fails to take ownership of a poor customer experience. Teaching him not to accept subpar service or be misled by a business is not setting a bad example; it is teaching him to stand up for himself. For a young employee to presume to lecture me on parenting, especially in front of my child in an effort to shame me, was completely out of line. She, not I, was the one setting a bad example. Consumer Beware: If you choose to shop at this store, inspect everything carefully before purchasing. Do not expect the staff to know whether the items they are selling are compatible or for them to tell you if they do know. Do not expect them to be accountable for the products they sell under false pretenses; placing two products that are incompatible next to each other on a display when you don't carry the compatible product is misleading and deceptive. Be prepared for poor service and disrespect should you encounter a problem with your purchase. read more

This is a cute little toy store in the middle of Solvang proper. An assortment of different toys can be found here-- puzzles, action figures, dolls, sports toys, stuffed animals, and a few sciencey things. The usual Roto-molded plastic and injected rubber import stuff is here with the Solvang markup, but honestly, that's every store and these folks gotta pay the rent. As you shop throughout the town for things you categorically don't need, give this spot a look for the youngest member on your gift list. The owner was friendly and welcoming, but I gotta believe the "you break it, you buy it" rule will be applied here with brute force. read more

Dale's clerk was adamant about wearing a mask, however, did not adhere to the 6 feet and capacity rule. People were stuffed in this store like sardines and the clerk was extremely rude. My family and I had fun wandering through this little store packed with all sorts of goodies from stuffed animals and puppets to wooden trains and puzzles along with a large section of horse related items. My daughter's a big horse fan, so she enjoyed perusing through many of their items. Super cute store located in the heart of Solvang. We were walking around window shopping and stopped in here. It instantly caught my daughter attention. So much variety for such a little shop. The woman behind the counter was nice too. We didn't buy any toys, but they had a little area to make your own charm jewelry, so we made a necklace(which broke a week later and the charms were lost). Great little toy store! It's a tight fit, so if you have misbehaving or hyper children, yeah, they probably won't be welcome. Mine are behaved, so I didn't experience any of what a couple of other reviewers have regarding their children. Now back to the toys. They have Klutz brand toys, which are terrific do-it-yourself projects.They have unique modeling clay's and dust free chalks. Yo-yos, cards and games, and little tiny things that children love to hold and play with. Their Christmas wrapping, which is free, is beautiful. Glad I asked them to wrap. read more

It's not a good sign walking into a store just be greeted with a half hearted "hiiiiiiii welcomeeeee." There were 2 teenage girls working the front when me and my 3 friends walked in and felt like we shouldn't have even been there. I actually wanted to pick up a few wind up toys that they had next to the register, but interrupting the girls' conversation felt rude on my part. The store is pretty pricy anyways. $5 for some chump change wind up toys or ¢75 for those little boxes of poppers. Most of the items in the store can be found for way less at your local swap meet or Ice Cream Truck. ST has a good variety of hard to find toys that you won't see at Toys R Us or other major chains. They do have some gems like the miniature replicas of the commercial airline jets. Very cool items. It's pricy so set the expectations with your children ahead of time so they are prepared when they walk in. read more

This place is cool for a small town toy store. Has a lot of variety for all ages. We were just there this past weekend and bought some model cars etc. my mom was looking for a craft or something to do with our kiddos unfortunately didn't find something that would work for all of them. But when i walked around town and dropped by to buy some play dough and was paying the register the manager said that they wont accept credit card or debit card of less than $10 purchase that means just cash. I never heard such thing. They want us to purchase more than $10 every purchase so why selling less than $10 worth of toy? I am a local here in solvang, not that THAT matters because its a sh** town, but point is I give business to these "local" businesses because I am here.I wanted to buy a small collectible and some youngish blonde lady went to ring me up, I was about to pay for the thing which came out to 5 bucks and some change. I pull out my card about to put it in the chip reader, then rudely she says " do you have cash? We have a ten dollar minimum" it wasn't a nice way of stating this, her attitude was b***hy. I say no, I'm sorry. Then she annoyingly says "want to buy two?" with a weird expression on her face. I say "no thanks I'm good..." Obviously I am disappointed and I sounded disappointed. She then loudly and again RUDELY says "ALRIGHT". Then nothing else, no "I'm so sorry about that" or f***ing anything else! The whole time sounding ticked off with me from the beginning. I just walked out, because with the attitude, if I was to say anything to her then and there, it wouldnt have been nice. A ten dollar minimum is not only high, but completely unnecessary for this piece of c*** tourist town that gets more than enough foot traffic to make up for it. read more

A clean fun toy shop that my toddler loves. We drive up from SB a few times a year and each time we get our little girl a toy from this shop. She loves the stuffed animal wall. Great selection but a bit pricey. $20 for a small stuffed seal was very uncool when a toddler has her heart set on it. It's a decent toy shop with a pricey streak. When you walk in it feels a bit like a higher end toy shop; fancy model cars in glass displays, some classic toys like etch-a-sketches etc. but quickly it turns to overpriced mass market toys you see everywhere. Fortunately they do carry some decent wire puzzles, have a small marble selection and a stuffed animal wall but it feels a bit like the space they are in is a bit too small to really flesh out the selection. We come here whenever we drive north from Santa Barbara, but our last 2 visits were not the greatest. The first time, the two teenage girls left in charge of being clerks were having the most intense gossip session I've heard. So intense I could feel the jealousy and angst they obviously felt over this other girl and her boyfriend. "He doesn't love her" I thought. Oh wait, I'm trying to shop for toys with my wife and a screaming toddler and I don't need to hear teenage gossip so endless I'm surprised they came up for air. A few months ago I visited Solvang, before even entering the store I got to have a lovely conversation with a very kind young girl cleaning the sidewalk outside the store. Once I entered the store I was greeted by another young girl. I was only looking with the idea of gifts for my little niece, but the employees were very helpful in suggestions for my niece. I would highly recommend bringing your children and family to the store because the toys are really incredible, the whole time I walked through the store I was remembering my childhood and bought a few trinkets for myself!
