This is nothing compared to the real harsh truth of reality. This honest review is for the sole purpose of bettering the company and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Clearly the person bothered is probably the lazy worker who saw the review or the shop owner*** The person working behind the register did not welcome us coming in the store. My partner and I entered twice and I noticed not once did she say anything to us. I saw her look up, look at us and look back down. She was sitting down the whole time looking at her laptop. Did not get up once. Lazy. Meanwhile, when an older couple walked in she immediately said hello and welcomed them. I don't care for discrimination but choosing and picking who you want to welcome in your store is a red flag. She may have judged us by the way we looked or dressed because we felt unwelcome so we left. My suggestion is to not pick and choose who they want to speak to because it was a lost sale, lost customer retention, lost business. For that reason we left and purchased nothing. Employee was unfriendly and did not smile. In the future I suggest saying hello, being more attentive instead of sitting down doing nothing.

We stopped by the Nurture Cottage when we were walking on Coast Village Road one morning last month and my husband wrangled the toddler while I browsed the store, ready to hand over our money. The place was super cute, a sweet little building with a barn door and enticing display windows. I asked the cashier, who I think was the owner, where I might find 24-month clothes for boys and she directed me to the right areas. I ended up getting Angel Dear bear print pajamas and a set of Sol Angeles sweatshirt and joggers. Check-out was easy and fast and the woman helping me was friendly. Both the pajamas and the sweats are in heavy rotation on the baby, and I liked the Sol Angeles set so much that I bought an identical one for myself (I wear it for days at a time). We look very cute in our matching outfits--he looks extremely cute and I look like a grown woman in sweats, but it averages out. I'll probably be back to Nurture Cottage next time I'm in Montecito, and I expect to find more nice clothes to dress my little model of a boy.

Clothing, accessories, books, toys, and an incredible collection of dollhouse accessories. The team went above and beyond to show us everything they had (they have a second location in the back with more dollhouse stuff). Prices were very reasonable and it didn't feel like we were being gouged just because it was downtown Montecito. And then when we found out that the proceeds actually go towards a nonprofit foundation, we wanted to simply buy everything. God bless these wonderful ladies for everything they do!

From the outside it looks magical but when you step in it's a different vibe. When I entered there were a couple or workers, perhaps the proprietors behind the counter. They didn't bother to look up or acknowledge my presence with a greeting. I felt invisible. There were a variety of unique toys and a nice assortment of children's clothing and accessories. They were pricey. However, I did find some cute items to purchase for our 7 year old grandson. Then I thought better of it and put them back. They don't really want my business.

Stepping into this shop reminds you that you are truly on California's Central Coast given he vibrant colors and surfing vibes. Art on the walls is made by local photographer Mindy Rainey. I am also reminded of how neglected I was as a child! They have so many neat toys, books, and clothing designs available now that previous generations didn't have. Not only that but much of what Beach Baby sells is made by local artists. I love the homemade dinosaur crayons and beautifully scented candles. Beach Baby sells many wonderful gifts for baby showers, birthdays or holidays. I particularly adore the little sand feet printing kit to make a mold of a baby's foot into an ornament. In the meantime, while this shop is a wonderful new addition to the area, I'll stick to loving my dog like a child. ;)

They won't take back defective merchandise!!!!! Buyer beware…read more I bought a shirt here and after one wash it bled horribly and completely changed the color of the shirt as well as staining other clothes. I brought it back and they would not refund or exchange. If you're going to sell pricey clothes you need to make it right when the merchandise you selected is defective. I figure I should post this review so others know before they fork over their money that they will not stand behind their merchandise. I was told because it didn't have tags that you couldn't take it back even for an exchange but I'd like to know how I am supposed to keep the tags on through a wash and I was perfectly happy with the shirt before it bled. This was a splurge for us at around $35 for a shirt. It WAS a light green background but the blue print bled and turned it purple. It's also blotchy and the thread did not change color so now a matching thread color is contrast stitching. It is not a look I would have paid that much for. I washed it on cold and it bled so much it even stained another shirt. (This was the only new item in the wash). We never even got to wear it once. I'm posting a photo of the damaged shirt where you can see it is purple now but still shows the original color near the buttons. I'm also showing the manufacturer's photo for what it looked like originally. I know they don't know it would bleed either and all I wanted to was to pick out something else. I wasn't demanding my money back. I wasn't blaming them for the damage to other clothes. I just didn't want to have spent so much on something I didn't like after it looked so different and blotchy.

We have seen chains like Borders and Barns & Noble, as well as locally owned shops - Granada Books and Earthling - all sadly disappear from our community, and I am concerned that Chaucer's has become complacent, secure in the knowledge that they hold a monopoly on Santa Barbara readers. Chaucer's selection is expansive, however, in their effort to provide a broad range of titles, there is usually only one copy of each. The staff over-crowd their narrow aisles, oftentimes with books stacked on the floor, a difficult navigation when you are also trying to squeeze past another patron in their aisles that are barely two-people wide. I also am ambivalent about Chaucer's organization. Mind you, it is easy to miss the placards that indicate each section and sub-section, as they are the same hand-written signs on cardboard that have been stuck between the books for the past 20 years. It is unclear also who is staff and who is not, because there is no dress code and there are no nametags... except on the dog wearing a bandana identifying her as 'Shop Dog.' Look for whoever is actually behind the counter, I suppose. It must be said that they are friendly and helpful. If they do not have a specific book that you are looking for, they always offer to order it for you.

Chaucer's is a super solid local bookstore in SB located in the same plaza as the Gelson's…read moresupermarket. They have a nice variety of books and everything is priced very fair. Definitely stop by if you are searching for a book or just looking to browse around!
