I had a great experience at Soma with Sherry (Sherri?) assisting me and patiently getting me other sizes, styles, colors, etc. both at my request and because she knew what might work well for me (loved her suggestions!). They were especially busy that day due to a big sale, with every dressing room full, but I felt I had an exceptional customer service experience in spite of all that. It does help to have a good-sized time block open so you're prepared to try on a lot and find exactly what you want. If they don't have your desired size, color, style, etc. in stock, you can order there (or online yourself) and have it shipped to you at home. Employees at this location need customer service training. I'm retired from retail with over 40 years of interacting with customers. I did not have a very good experience in this location. Just believe customer service relations training is much needed. I will not be back to this location ever! read more

I'm quite sure we all remember the scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts' character is treated with rude disdain in the shop on Rodeo Dr. Well, as you revisit that scene in your mind-you might contact your Trenholm Plaza store in Columbia, SC. My 29 year old daughter and I were there midday on Black Friday. My daughter went in the fitting room to try some bras. There was a lady politely measuring other customers. When my daughter asked for help she was met with unkindness AND THE WORDS: we don't have anything on the floor that will fit you! Less than impressed by the rude manner in which this employee addressed my daughter- we left as quickly as possible with a terrible taste for customer service in Soma in Trenholm Plaza in Columbia, SC! Yes, the store was busy, but not so busy that we should be treated this way. I wish I had gone back and asked her, "Ma'am, is there something more important than your JOB that is keeping you from helping us in a courteous manner?" I was so disappointed! read more

Before starting my review, I want to be clear that this is not a reflection on the sales associate. Every year I get two lounge sets for my sister and a $500 gift certificate for her birthday gift. Today when I went in to purchase these items, there were no real choices for full sets in my sister's size. I did get one outfit that the salesperson brought from the back. She brought out other designs and I selected another but was told I could not purchase the set because the items were not unpacked. With limited sizes I would think that they would be unpacking new inventory quickly. When I got ready to check out, I was told that they had no envelopes for the gift cards and no boxes for the clothing purchase. It was as though they weren't interested in being open for business. I spent over $600 today in a store that had limited choices, no desire to unpack new merchandise to sell it, no envelopes and no boxes. read more

I have been a Soma loyal customer for years, ever since I worked for Chicos FAS back in the day. I went to this location and have decided to no longer shop with Soma. The manager who helped me was over confident during the whole fitting process. I explained what I liked and she "disagreed". I work in cosmetics and understand what it's like when a customer wants something that isn't quite right for them, but our job is to make recommendations and make sure the customer leaves comfortable and happy with their purchases and experience. I left with product I was not comfortable with but was convinced was "right for me" by the "expert" despite my outspoken reservations. I gave them a try for a few days, and as I had thought, they didn't fit. Soma has gotten far more strict on their return policies and I was unable to return my purchases, $300+ down the drain. I made this purchase several months back and continued to wear the uncomfortable bras because I didn't have another $300+ to spend on bras. I went to the chiropractor the other day who mentioned when he was adjusting me that my bra straps were loose which can greatly affect the shoulder tension and neck pain I've been experiencing. After he said that I decided it was time to make a review on yelp, when I made the purchase a few months ago, I was too upset to. I sincerely hope Soma corporate adjusts their return policies to fit the customer need and that the management at this location learn to put the customer experience above personal pride in their recommendations. Why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1: Soma bras, when fitted correctly, are comfy, cute, and last a long time. They also have cute comfy dresses fitted for gifted women. Update a Year Later: Talked to two friends recently who have had a similar experience with the store manager. She was pushy, over-confident, fitted them incorrectly, and made them feel like they didn't know their own body and what they wanted. Really poor customer service and salesmanship. I had a great experience at Soma Intimates in Columbia. I had never had a bra fitting before, and for years I had wrestled with poor-fitting bras that frustrated me. They either were seriously uncomfortable, or the straps would not stay on my shoulders. A couple of friends recommended I try Soma. I was greeted by two saleswomen when I walked in the door. When I requested a fitting, Kim stopped what she was doing and devoted the next hour to helping me. The fitting was quick, easy, and discreet. She asked me a few questions, like what my biggest problems were with bras, and what activities I did. She selected several bras for me to try. She gave me ample time to try each one out, and asked for my opinions on each. There was one style in particular that I really liked, and the straps stayed put. A second style, unlined and less "structured" also fit nicely on me. I ended up purchasing a couple in each style. I looked upon it as a good investment. I've worn them a few days now. I like how much better these bras feel; I am no longer wrestling with straps, or feeling like I have no support, or that the sides are digging into me. I also am impressed with how much better my clothes fit. Kim was kind, very helpful, and showed just the right amount of attentiveness to me. She did not rush me, or pressure me in any way. I look forward to shopping there again. read more
