My 8 year old daughter wanted to learn how to skateboard, and I was eager to get a longboard after not riding in a decade. I found Salty's on Yelp, and off we went! I knew exactly what I wanted (Loaded Flex 2), but my daughter had lots of questions. The gentleman behind the counter named Mike was SO much help. He took his time and helped her select a board, helmet, and knee/elbow/wrist pads. After 4 months, we're both still very satisfied with our selections and ride almost daily. Long story short - Salty's is a great spot full on knowledgeable folks, and you get to shop and support a local business in the process. The only negative thing I can think of is there is a 3.9% service charge for credit card purchases, so either pay cash or debit to avoid this. It caught me off guard on a $550 purchase. read more

Hey boys and girls. Have you ever seen a surf shop with a tip jar and that will charge you $15.99 for a shop sticker. We stop by here. This used to to be "the" shop. Then it used to be "a" shop. This is now a future ghost in the industry. The owner would rather tear down and break relationships over a $15.00 sticker rather than to man up and own the culture and choice he made to run such a shop. Screw our skateboarding and surfing history....chase the dollar...and your no long "the" or "a" shop to the culture you left behind. You are simply standing behind a counter waiting for the bougie squares to like you and save you. They will not save you. Nor will we now. We were always the only ones who could. Never expected this from Salty's. Bought a pair of Katin trunks a few weeks ago and the threads are already coming out of the waistband. Went to the store to return or replace. The salesgirl said the threads coming out "looks really bad." The only relief offered from the store was for me to go through Katin's warranty process. read more

Went here to get my 5yo daughter her first skateboard for Xmas. It was at the top of her list! Store was super helpful and friendly. Got me a great beginner board along with some protective gear. Even threw me a cool Salty sticker I have on my car now. Can't say enough about the staff. Super friendly, and they said come back if I had any questions or issues. We stopped in to check out this shop for my oldest sons birthday. (I knew he would find something he wanted/"needed.") My son recently got a new skateboard and has been anxious to visit a local skate shop. Salty's did not disappoint! They have a large selection of boards, to include cruisers and long boards. My son was able to pick reasonably priced pads and the owner fitted him to be sure he got the right size. There is also a great selection of flops!!! My youngest was able to get a new pair of shark designed Reef flops and he was super excited. The owner took the time to talk with my son and was knowledgeable about skateboards, surf boards, skim boards...all things boards! He took the time to get to know his interests and offer advice. My son said he appreciated him talking to him the most. There also some awesome skim boards. If they don't have one in stock that you want, he can order it. They carry Zap skimboards and traction, which can be added. Best customer service and even better, a locally owned shop! We look forward to returning! read more

So, I'm taking my son camping in a few weeks. I've researched camping hammocks and had the opportunity to purchase online. I noticed on Grand Trunks website they listed Salties as a dealer. I called the shop, explained what I was looking for and asked if they had the Grand Trunk hammock in stock. She told me they did along with other selections as well. I decided I would go have a look, she remembered exactly who I was and showed me the selection of camping hammocks in addition to the one I specifically asked for. I really appreciated the fact she remembered our conversation and gave me options to choose from. She introduced me to Paul when I started asking more detailed questions about the product. Paul is a wealth of knowledge and stirred me to a different hammock that I ultimately purchased after hearing his first-hand knowledge of. The shop has a very relaxed feel to it, and as friendly a staff as one could get. Both Paul and Katie are winners in my book. Hippest spot it town...insane collection of shades and cool shoes and the new store is the bomb...

I used to enjoy shopping here, until I recently encountered what it feels like to try to return an item! Be VERY careful when purchasing here especially if it's a high priced item. Their receipts CLEARLY read you can ONLY get store credit if you return an item. If you paid for anything in cash/debit you are out of luck! I have never heard of an establishment that will not refund your original tender even if you have a receipt. Also, they will not/do not tell you this up front which is poor service. I tried taking back a costly item (which they sold to me damaged) and Gil was very hard to work with. It's like they come up with every excuse in the book to not take your item back. I've tried like four times to take this item back, and they lee claiming they "can't" do it without a manager there, and the manager is never there. Seriously, be very cautious when buying here. You better be in love with whatever you buy because it's yours forever! I'm never shopping here again. If they don't take back my item, I am reaching out to the BBB. read more

I love this place. The staff is very friendly, especially Paul. I have shopped here for a long time and I really enjoy their thoughtful selection of clothing and outdoor gear. Salty's is very understanding with returns. You need to have the receipt and it can't be an item that was deeply discounted. The online shop is pretty good too. I now live in Dallas.
