My child and other children deserve better.. Why don't you instead tell people of the things that you are taking away from the children. I do not see anything good coming from this school. My child attended Bierman Autism Centers for many years, starting first in the Cranston location…read moreand then ending his time in the East Bay center in Warren. Bierman was recommended to us by our pediatric behavior specialist and, at the time, the medical community believed ABA therapy to be the best option for helping our autistic child thrive. This began a journey of us learning about various "treatment practices and models" and ended abruptly after we learned from the autistic community that ABA therapy is harmful to autistic people. I will say that many of the providers we met over the years at Bierman were lovely people and cared a great deal for our son. I never felt that he was in a place where he was being harmed or neglected. That is the only positive thing I can say about our time at Bierman. The turnover at Bierman is incredibly high because they do not pay their staff members enough and as a result, service providers were quick to find better opportunities for themselves. This meant that our child's "care team" changed frequently which was something that we had to adjust to multiple times throughout the year. Additionally, since Bierman is a private, for profit business that runs year round (no school or summer breaks available) they billed our insurance for 40 hours a week for services 52 weeks a year. It is unrealistic to think that an autistic child - or any child - can attend to tasks and programs 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 52 consecutive weeks! I don't know many adults that can keep up that work schedule without becoming burnt out and I would not expect any child to be able to meet this demand. I frequently expressed my concerns about this schedule to the staff and made sure to plan lots of early pickups or time away for our child. As a result, our child did not maintain a 40 hour a week average so this became a source of contention between us an the "operations manager" at the center and something that was brought up at every parent meeting. Lastly, I'll provide the following information about the negative impact of ABA therapy that I have learned from autistic adults who were subjected to this treatment when they were children. ABA therapy is founded on "pairing" and uses withholding preferred items or rewards in order to discourage undesired behaviors. The autistic community believes that ABA therapy is a form of conversion therapy and this approach is dehumanizing, encourages "masking" and ignores the unique needs and preferences of each child. The behavior strategies taught in ABA puts the child at risk for grooming, causes unnecessary stress and discomfort, and can have long term repercussions like disregulation, burn out, or PTSD. I realize that the larger problem is that there are not enough resources or options available for autistic children and their families. School departments generally don't have enough funding or staff to provide truly exceptional support and any for profit insurance based programs focus only on "treatment" and collecting data to show "progress" toward making the child "less autistic" in order to satisfy the insurance company and keep billing them for services.

My mother was transported here after a major surgery. She had to stay here for 21 days. It's…read moreliterally been 3 days & she is begging to be discharged. My mom was left in her own feces for TWO days. They also forgot to give her dinner TWO nights in a row. By day 3 she had to remind them to feed her & by the time she got the food was ice cold. Stay away from this place if you want quality care for your loved ones. This is so unacceptable on so many levels.

The ability to ambulate was almost forgotten, meal times were a joke!! Patients that required feeding waited, if still in bed their meal stayed in the day room cold! Unless a complaint was made toileting didn't happen. Patients that weren't quiet were in reclining chairs as not to get up. Patients were left in urine if family members weren't there to advocate. In my opinion there are only a few good staff, they were short staff on weekends and the nursing staff except for med passing doesn't really interact with patients except if the patient is in front or behind the nurses desk. My family member regressed significantly in the month there. Black and blue marks from her head to her feet, sore on her foot, bruise on her forehead from a fall... it was heart breaking! Please don't put your loved one there and if you do be the biggest loudest advocate and keep your eyes open. The overall appearance is deplorable, needs painting, patient rooms need update, day room has little to no chairs and what they have are torn. Out side seating is horrible and most of the time people are out there smoking. Elevators were broken for weeks, activities were coloring or word search ( for stroke and dementia patients).

Victor... Nadine...& Aleah for making my exit to leave for Florida in the morning away from Mom for a week They made me feel so comfortable and I left with a smile on my face so thank you!!!!!
