Alicia Leming was my HMUA and one of our favorite vendors. I've gotten my makeup done professionally before, and it's never really felt like me (too much, hiding features of mine that I like, etc). I feel like I can be a tough critic about professional makeup and really wanted to feel confident on the big day. From our trial to the wedding, Alicia did an amazing job of making me feel beautiful and as natural as possible. I was impressed with all the small things she took notes on after our trial and applied for the wedding day months later. It felt like she was anticipating my every need and the final product turned out amazing. Same with hair! I brought inspiration of a hair style I've never done before to our trial and she knocked it out of the park. I made her job more difficult by adding extensions that made my hair thicker and longer post trial and Alicia didn't bat an eye. I texted her about a month before the wedding with concerns about the extensions holding a curl, and Alicia made me feel so reassured and offered some advice to prep for the wedding day. Something Blue Stylists recently did the hair and makeup for my wedding and they did an absolutely amazing job! The preparations for the wedding started with a preview appointment about 6 weeks before the wedding. The head stylist, Brittney, did an excellent job of listening to the hair and makeup look I wanted and making it a reality! I normally wear minimal makeup, so I didn't want to look overdone. Brittney did an excellent job of just enhancing my looks! On the day of the wedding, Brittney, and her team did an amazing job with myself, my bridesmaids, mom and mother-in-law. Each person had very different request for their desired hair and makeup look, from minimalistic makeup to more bold, heavier makeup. Brittney and her team did any amazing job with everyone based on what each person wanted. Everyone felt so confident and loved their look! Brittney stayed during pictures and followed us around to touch everyone up. After the ceremony was done she removed my veil and gave everyone some final touch ups before leaving. My wedding makeup and hair was just "eh". When I went into the consult the owner who I had originally booked with decided to take a different client the day of my wedding instead of me and didn't tell me this until I showed up to the consult (that didn't make me feel great). She felt confident that this other person would be great. The consult was just okay. The girl was nervous and unsure, but eventually things came together and I was pleased. When it came to my actual wedding day I didn't feel like it was that special. She didn't do my hair like we had in the consult at all and my curls only lasted about 2 hours (we were indoors so there's no reason it should have lasted only 2 hours). When I curl my hair at home it's lasts for days. I don't feel like my hair or makeup looked any better than if I had done it myself. I just felt let down. When I look at my wedding I'm not mad, it's just "okay". No one wants to feel "eh" about their hair and makeup on their wedding day. read more

I was married in June 2015. I booked with Shayna over a year before my wedding. To me, making sure I had the right stylists for my wedding was very important. It wasn't something I was going to slack on. We exchanged emails on hair styles I liked, etc. the preview went flawlessly and I loved how it turned out. Also, I got married up near Lake Arrowhead and there are limited choices for hair & makeup up there. Shayna and her hair stylist were able to travel to me at my venue. This means I did not have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn to get made up! All of the ladies were able to get sone sleep! I was also able to have Shayna on hand for any touch ups since the venue was outdoors and it was warm that day. In the end, we didn't need touch ups but Shayna's service was a life saver. She pretty much took over the role of bridesmaid. SBS exceeded my expectations in every way!Andi, was not only a gifted hair and makeup artist, she was a bff, a mom, an expert in crisis management, etc. She shared in our laughter and our excitement but never gave in to our worry or doubt. Since a friend of mine was doing makeup (her wedding present to me, hehe), I had to find somebody awesome to do our hair. I found Andrea and scheduled a trial with her. I had three criteria: - no super formal, stiff, wedding up-do - minimize my moon face - hair all up because I get hot. Given that criteria 1 and 3 nearly contradict each other, Andrea did an AMAZING job with my hair (it was a curly french twist of some sort). I didn't even notice what she was doing because we were so busy chatting. Once she finished, I immediately loved it. I booked her for my wedding in January, to do one bride, two moms, 4 bridesmaids, and 4 flower girls. I don't know how, but she did us all in about 3 hours (starting at 5am...omg)! No one's hair moved the entire day. My bangs did drop, but I already knew they were because they have a mind of their own. Thank goodness for the 8 billion bobby pins in my hair-- I was able to pull one out and secure the crazy bangs. My hair was so securely in place that when I went to take out everything later that night, my hair moved probably half an inch down. How's that for in place! I'd totally recommend Andrea to anybody who is getting married. When initially conducting my search for someone to do hair and make up for my August 27 wedding, I reached out to probably a half a dozen places. Andrea at Something Blue Stylists really stood out for a variety of reasons, including: 1) She has a great web site. I'm not going to lie - online presence really matters a lot to me. I want to be able to see what you've previously done! If you're good - you'll show it off! And boy! Andrea's good! She has a great online portfolio. (On another note, her web site is really great as everything you need from prep tips to an availability calendar is all right there online.) 2) She has terrific reviews! I couldn't find one review where people who were serviced by her weren't happy. 3) She's moderately priced. Not the most inexpensive, but not out of my price range - she's priced great for what she offers. 4) She can do both hair and make up brilliantly. So nice to be able to work with one individual! I actually booked Andrea for our wedding after only exchanging a few emails; I was THAT confident in her ability. In July, I had my preview with her down in San Clemente (note: FAR San Clemente so prepare for a bit of a drive.) I came armed with pictures and waterproof mascara - and was all set! She was super talkative throughout the whole process - kind of like a friend would be. She made the experience fun. She understood exactly what I wanted based on the photos I showed her and did a great job of creating it. With lots of photos, we were then all set for the wedding day. I had an afternoon wedding - so well, practically still night time - Andrea and her assistant arrived at 4:45 a.m. to do my hair and make up, plus my four bridesmaids, plus my mum. For it being that early, she had a ton of energy, which was great for my girls and I to get us excited for the big day. She and her assistant were super efficient, giving my girls exactly what they were looking for. If something wasn't right, (e.g. one of my bridesmaid's bangs were a bit too high), she would accommodate the change (e.g. added bobby pins to reduce the volume). I know it must be frustrating to go back and make little changes, but you could never tell. She was always positive! My hair and make-up looked even better than it did on the preview day. I wanted to make one small change to my bangs from what we did that day and she understood straight away. We had about 14 girls getting hair/makeup done for a wedding.. The stylists were nice but insisted I shouldn't get airbrush makeup when that's specifically want I wanted & gave me regular foundation anyways. The hair lady did nothing like the pictures we showed her (which were within reason) and literally was nothing like what we wanted. The bride was gorgeous which is what was important but not worth $150 for hair/makeup. Overall, I was very unsatisfied with the service. read more

It did fall near the end of the night, but I blame that on the very windy day in Indianapolis and not on Andi by any means.
