I really enjoy the ambience of this place. It is a small business with local artwork in the walls. Every time I have visited, it has always been very clean (top 5% of all restaurants I have visited). I have always received friendly service while here. On my most recent visit, I had a garden omelette which was slightly brown for my taste. It was the second time I ordered an omelette there, and both times, they were cooked that way. Perhaps that is their standard, but I don't prefer my omelette that way. The home fries were ok -- not terribly flavorful, but certainly not awful (a little S&P was what they needed). But I will say that their breads are incredible! I really enjoy all the various types of bread they offer, and I was told by multiple servers that they are made fresh daily. I have yet to try their croissants or baked goods, but I'm sure I will at some point. I prefer to spend my money at small, locally-owned businesses, so I will continue to visit here. Since I enjoy the bread so much, I'll be visiting during lunch next time. read more

Want to love this place but....I'm here fir the croissants and they're not quite there. Neither flaky or airy enough and too sweet but otherwise serviceable. The sourdough...sorry, not quite there. Breakfast potatoes were not only just deep fried cubes, they were not cooked through as well as cold. Just a bummer. On the plus side the coffee was good and the food is generally pretty good, I'm just in it for the croissants though. read more

My friend is always complaining that there is no where nice to eat in Wilkes-Barre, but then we went here and I think he now needs to stop his complaining. Doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that fool you! Nice interior with a decent amount of space. Lots of daily specials of food and drink await you. I had a cup of lasagna soup which was recommended by our very nice waitress. Was excellent. The only weird thing was the bread they gave with the soup which was just a bit blah. Had the mushroom gouda melt which was fantastic! Honestly some of the best sourdough bread on a grilled sandwich ever. Just extremely soft yet crispy. Gouda is always a win although the sandwich was a tad oily and was surprisingly heavy for being vegetarian food. My friend was very pleased with his food too. We got some cookies to go which were also excellent (chocolate chip). The rest of the baked goods available in the display case looked great too. Only downside is that I thought the prices were a bit steep given its geographical location. But the food was good enough that I don't think it matters. I love this little gem! I had previously visited for coffee, pastries and breakfast and enjoyed it. Now I have had their soup/1/2 sandwich combo- and loved it. I had the Nicole (Turkey, apples, cheese, cranberry mayo in fresh grain bread) and the Autumn Harvest soup and found everything to be so fresh and delicious. Yum! Checkout their daily menu post on FB for up to date items/baked goods. They offer some great vegetarian options. The last thing i had was the Sweet Heat sandwich. It consists of baby spinach, cheddar cheese, avocado, red onion, jalepeno strawberry jam on oat bread for $9.50. The last time i had it, it was made perfectly. The time before there was hardly any of the jam on it so it was pretty dry. I always ordered it to go and it doesn't come with any side. Not even a little one. I've never eaten in house, but many people do and love it. Also... If they ever have a chilled fruit soup/gazpacho make sure to get it. They are something else and definitely something special. Ok so I was slightly disappointed but I'm still going to give them 4 stars. The reason is that I was looking for more of a sit-down breakfast restaurant place that day and I guess I overestimated their menu selection. The breakfast meal selection is fairly small, however the items we got were delicious. They have a nice selection of breads and other baked goods. We tried their home made pop tarts and doughnuts which were both great. It was a cute little cafe with a nice atmosphere. Best coffee I have had so far in Kingston. The baked goods looked very good as well. As four our meals...I got your standard two eggs over easy bacon and potatoes. It was good, tough to mess that up. I've never been disappointed, honestly. They can range from cupcakes to cheesecakes to pies to creampuffs to basically anything else you can think of. What whimsical idea the baker has that day, you'll be sure to enjoy. They also have options for pastry platters which combine an assortment of their goodies to take to the office or family get together. They are always extremely accommodating and have always fulfilled my orders in a timely fashion. I have never tried their main cafe menu but I have tried their specials a handful of times. Each time I've been extremely satisfied. Specials are usually updated on their Facebook page on Monday, but they're not super consistent about updating. My only (small) disappointment is that they do not have WiFi for customers. read more

I've been to Something Special many, many times. Today I stopped in for something to eat because I had a headache. The music was loud and I wanted to be where it was quiet so I went to the back area. A male server told me it was closed down. When I told him I had a headache and wanted to be where it was quiet he said, "Well it's closed. You can't go back there." I told him that I'd take my order and go sit in the car. He got an attitude, calling me rude. I told him I had a headache and his comment was, "Then why are you out in public?" The menu is somewhat on the smaller side, which I prefer, and it changes often. Still haven't made it for a Saturday breakfast special, but really hope to! Homemade bakery items daily.
